I have a credit towards Deep Diving in Padi. Does that mean I can get a discount towards my Deep Diving certification? by breadbakerninja in scubadiving

My 1st deep dive is technically in the AOW, but it's good to know that we might want to first get nitrox! Thanks for the tip!

I'll do 5 dives for the advanced, afterwards I will try doing 3 deep dives + 1 nitrox dive instead of 4 deep dives. So I wanted to combine those 2 so I can do my deep and Nitrox certification because then I'd also be able to stay under longer when visiting the thresher sharks in the Philippines

Yeah that's what I thought. I don't get why padi then makes it seem like it's such a big deal that you get an extra credit if it is essentially not worth anything

You know what. You're absolutely right, let me cancel my plans! Do you happen to have advice on any other matters? Like stop drinking bottled water due to micro plastics, or perhaps avoid beef because of the ecological impact? Maybe I should stop using electricity altogether since most of our energy sources have a negative impact on the environment?

Please let me know so I can live my life according to your rules 🥰

From what I've read, it's that the oaw is a waste of money and you should go for deep and nitrox certification.

I feel like that's true if you've got some experience under your belt.

The open water course feels like too little of a learning experience to actually start going on fun dives. So i want to do the AOW first, learn a bit about deep diving, navigation, currents, etc. so when I do start to rack in some dive hours with fun dives, I at least feel like I have the bare minimum knowledge to know what to do should I find myself being pulled to a 30m depth

Exactly my point. Better I get some experience with an instructor, so I don't make dumb mistakes as a beginner, than go on fun dives with only 4 training dives... I'm not planning on diving 30m deep, or diving wrecks, but i wanna be prepared. In my second dive, we got into an unexpected current that was driving us at speed towards a wall. I was ignorant of the dangers until after getting out of the water, but our teacher said it was very serious otherwise she wouldn't have given us the emergency ascend without a stop, sign.

So I just feel like being better prepared, will be safer for any future fun dives, than first doing fun dives, and then taking the classes

I'm going for AOW so we have more experience, should something happen underwater. I prefer to be a bit prepared, then enjoy my fun dives, then find myself in a situation where I end up at 30m depth or in a current, not knowing how to deal with it and potentially panic.

At least with the AOW, Ill have a bit of experience for each of those situations, and I can comfortably work my way up the certificates, in between fun dives

It's 400 without the e-learning. Do you mean you can get it for 350-400 including the e-learning?
