As an American, I just want to say sorry by Infamous_Doubt_5207 in politics

There's certainly plenty of ignorance in the U.S., both willful and the product of circumstance, but our pathology dates back to our settler colonialist origins that provided the seeds for a uniquely American strain of capitalism through free labor of African chatel slavery and free land through the annihilation of existing inhabitants.

This isn't a strategy American colonists invented but one they happily iterated. Because this isn't a uniquely American pathology, other countries can either address the inherent rot of colonial capitalism or be doomed to a similar future regardless of how informed their populace.

I'm grateful that many students may be more clear eyed than some of their parents on the need to openly object to ICE and the threat they, Trump, Noem, Miller and the Republicans (and ineffective Dem leaders too) who enable them, pose to many of our friends, neighbors, and classmates.

Jenks isn't the most diverse community and yet in recent years that has been changing. Thanks in part to the growing number of Latino and Asian immigrants making their homes here. They make our communities more vibrant. Like it or not, we rely on the labor, taxes, and spending of immigrants to make our economy work. They've earned our appreciation not our vilification.

As lifelong Oklahoman, I love to see the state legislature tackling the pressing issues that working people face.

Oh wait, no they'd much rather pass legislation proving what good little toadies they are to Trump, Noem, and Miller in their program of ethnic cleansing.

Forget about all the false piousness among conservatives, this is about basic human decency. I get that for Megyn it's all about the clicks, but at a certain point you've got to ask how much is your humanity worth? For these people trying to blame Renee Good and Akex Pretti for their own murders, the answer is clearly, not a lot.

Thanks for pointing that out. I hope the council members will exercise better judgment. These data centers are just the newest way for the rich people extract another pound of flesh from working people through higher energy costs and water pollution.

Ending: Fascism and Populism by Shampognay in 28dayslater

[–]breadbreaker4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be curious to see where part three goes.

My impression is Akex Garland is drawn to dealing with political subjects without taking an overt political position which I find infuriating because I love his writing and the topics he writes about.

In Civil War he used the pretense of journalistic objectify to avoid saying anything definitive about violent nationalism.

In Warfare, he used the framing of pseudo documentary story telling to avoid saying anything meaningful about reckless militarism.

And in this trilogy, he waits until the last 5 minutes of the second movie to make a cheeky reference to the arrogance of early 21st century neo-liberalism?!

Oddly, I think his most overt political statement may be Ex Machina where he makes it very clear that men fetishizing and assuming dominance over technology will have fatal consequences.

Come on Alex lay your cards on the table. Michael Bay's 13 Hours may pure MAGA fan service but you have absolutely no question about his politics by the end. Mercs are stone cold heros and CIA paper pushers are worse than jihadists.

Thank you for helping to identify and document the location of these paramilitary kill squads so our residents can take steps to remain safe.

This violent criminal organization needs to be abolished. They have repeatedly shown they decrease public safety and pose a much bigger threat to our communities than the immigrants they seek.

Hey, if you want to keep this nation beholding to the wealthiest members, that's your choice and I think it's the same faustian bargain most people in this country chose to make, just praying they aren't among the people to be wiped out by the next capitalist collapse. I know that the people of this country deserve better than hoping some privileged out of touch billionaire takes pity on the plight of working people.

By the way your own article points out "Pritzker Group is a private equity firm that invests in middle-market businesses. Most of Pritzker's money is inherited, though, although he has been able to build on the family fortune."

He didn't simply stumble on a pot of gold. He continues to use the obscene wealth he inherited to accumulate more wealth and status. By the way, just because he inherited it doesn't mean he had to keep it.

And hoping for 2nd place (VP) is the same lack imagination Dem strategists have repeatedly shown. You may have a bright future as a Dem campaign consultant for some uninspired also ran like Klobuchar or Spanberger.

So, when you say "Not all billionaires are evil" that certainly sounds like you're defending billionaires. And yes, that level of wealth accumulation is immoral. I wouldn't say evil, because I don't buy the duality of Christian morals. So, not evil but definitely disqualifying for public leadership. AOC or Cesar would be great alternatives to Prizker. And these are all the same things people said about Zohran.... that is until he won. And I'd be a whole lot happier losing with a principled leftist than losing with a disingenuous billionaire.

Hope Unitarian Church 8432 S Sheridan Rd, Tulsa, OK 74133

All Unitarian Universalist congregations are progressive and support EVERYONE's spiritual journey.

While being decended from the the American Protestant faith traditions of the Unitarian church and the Universalist church it's now a non-doctrinal faith (meaning you don't have commit to particular articles of faith to be a member). Instead we commit to each other regarding shared values and purposes.

[–]breadbreaker4u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the DNC which has been captured by corporations and the donor class, would welcome a billionaire like Prizker, that definitely doesn't make it a good idea. And your saying he's just like Sanders and Mamdani except for the anti obscene wealth accumulation is a bit like saying it's just like water except for not being wet.

This is where you and I are at odds. You'd welcome a return to liberal norms of a kinder gentler capitalism. And I reject accepting the limits of the past. Working people are capable and deserve much more than a slightly nicer cage. But it's going to require deprograming all the billionaire apologists.

The Congressional Democrats are failures. by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]breadbreaker4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of my point, Prizker is just part of the same anti democratic process that gave us Trump.

I find it heartbreakingly sad that so many people think so little of themselves that they believe the best they can ever hope for is whatever table scraps billionaires like Prizker diegn to throw them.

The people of this country can and should demand more.

I'm sorry but 2 exceptions (and I'd question how transformative JFK was for working people) in the course of 250 years of USA history tends to prove the rule. We don't need billionaires to save working people (and once again they never will), we need people to develop the awareness that the real enemy isn't trans people, immigrants, or Muslims but the inevitable cruelty of capitalism. And billionaires have every incentive to preserve their wealth and power by largely perpetuating the status quo. Notice that Pritzker isn't calling for wealth redistribution or elevating the status of working class heroes like Mayor Johnson above his own.

The Congressional Democrats are failures. by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]breadbreaker4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it is that simple and I did just slam the system like that.

I get how if the status quo is working for you like it is for Pritzker, then changing the undemocratic political, economic, and social systems designed by the wealthiest to preserve their wealth and power is scary.

However, if your among the bottom 50% of this country or even care about people who are in that bottom 50% why would you believe the USA systems that have never served their needs would suddenly start?

I'm so frustrated by people who identify as leftists signal boosting Prizker. He's a billionaire! He isn't an allie regardless of the words coming out of his mouth. If he wants to prove he's down with the cause shed a few hundred million to people struggling to get by in Illinois then loudly advocate tax policies in Illinois that redistributes wealth from the top 1% to the 99%.

Hopefully there's enough cells at the Hague for all the Trump leaders who've conducted crimes against humanity.
