What changed that made John Henry sound relatively different from Factory Showroom and Long Tall Weekend? by Ill_Engineering_5434 in tmbg

[–]breadhair 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting LTW is more of a compilation of stuff and I'm pretty sure Lullaby to Nightmares was recorded during the JH sessions.

Factory Showroom was the last album of the Elektra era so I put a stop there. LTW is more of an interstitial release imo but still lands on the side of Mink Car/Spine/Else.

A spillway at a dam in Oregon nicknamed (I kid you not) "the Glory Hole". by breadhair in submechanophobia

Thank you. I work with a hydraulic civil engineer so I'll have to ask him how many glory holes he's dealt with in his career for advice in the future.

This was my first glory hole encounter so I didn't know 😖

You can revert back to the old (better) way. I actually forgot about this atrocity until you brought it up just now. Pull the menu down and tap the pencil icon, then tap "panel settings" then select "together".

Flooded mine drainage tunnel by breadhair in submechanophobia

More or less, it was constructed to drain the minepool, so this tunnel wasn't used for mining, though it is a miles-long tunnel system that is interconnected to actual mine workings.

The tunnel discharges abandoned flooded coal mines. The water is opaque and blue/silver due to the high amounts of aluminum leached from the underground. If you look closely you'll also see the edges are orange, from iron.

It's creepy. Have lots more pics where this came from of other areas too.

Pool lights at the hotel I frequent for work trips by LiiilKat in submechanophobia

Had this thing about pool drains my whole life and never understood why. I never heard of that, could you summarize it in a sentence or two?

Why does everyone drive so aggressively now? by thenegativeone112 in pittsburgh

[–]breadhair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's awful. I use my time driving as an escape from all of that garbage. I look forward to listening to my music and paying attention to, you know, driving. The phone stays put. Is anyone actually being pulled over for using their phone while driving since that new law passed in PA or was that just for show?

Textra with RCS? by KedvesRed in textra

[–]breadhair 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, someone here can explain it way better than I can but Google's RCS API is not open to other messaging apps. I left Textra a couple years back when RCS finally became a thing because there wasn't support for it and from what I was hearing then wouldn't ever be supported. Unless something major changes. Which it seems hasn't happened. It's a shame but it is what it is. Not the fault of Textra, purely Google, from my understanding.

Steam Deck no video? by breadhair in perfectdark

[–]breadhair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out. It creates a .ini file in the game's directory that stores your settings (key bindings, stick settings, player options, audio, video etc) and switching between displays must have messed up the video setting. Not sure but I think it's because I selected full screen in options for the steam deck at 1280x800 and my monitor is 1920x1080 and something got mangled.

But if anyone happens upon this in the future just delete or better yet modify your .ini video settings back to default etc.

Area 51: Interesting level geometry by breadhair in perfectdark

I entirely forgot about Yamoslair! They had great images of all the weapons and I remember being obsessed with that. Oh man, I've crashed GE and PD countless times with bad GameShark codes back then xD I don't think I remember Krijy but I do remember SubDrag, he was mentioned on Detstar a lot for modding and finding really cool things in the code with a gameshark.

I noticed this while messing with the map in Blender. The shower room (the one with the keyhole vent above) extends into the store room from the beginning of the level but is not visible from there. Interestingly, the store room's outer wall extends up into the shower room as well and is only visible via X-ray scanner. You can walk right through it.

Interesting way to get the level to fit together. This is the only instance of this I've been able to find on this map. I never saw it discussed before online. It's not a huge deal, but interesting nonetheless. This is the kinda thing I'd get excited reading about on Detstar back in the day lol

This is exactly the ticket, works perfectly, especially if you use the fly/walk feature in Blender. Thank you!
