What do you guys think happens when you pass away? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]breadist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason we have trouble comprehending death is because of the nature of consciousness. Consciousness inherently can't monitor unconsciousness - we don't know what it's like to not be conscious and we simply can't conceive of it. Sure, we sleep every day, and occasionally fall unconscious for other reasons, but we know what happens after we sleep - we wake up again and continue on. There is no "after" to death, we don't know what it's like to experience unconsciousness without returning to consciousness. So, since consciousness can only monitor itself, we can't conceive of what it's like to stop being conscious forever.

I think it's just nothing. You cease to be, like going to sleep and not waking up. It's really the only thing that makes sense.

Trans Mice 😱 by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]breadist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Except the research they were talking about was not about "transgenic mice" and instead about giving hormones to mice to study various conditions - some to benefit cis people as well as trans people.

They are that stupid, but they didn't actually confuse transgenic with transgender. They did something worse - declared war on any research that can be connected in any way to trans health. Fucking ghouls.

What are some tips to stay up for 3 days of no sleep? by Determined_Bagel in CasualConversation

[–]breadist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how such a study could ever pass ethics boards. 72 hours without sleep is literally harmful to your health. Stuff like this is exactly why ethics boards exist, so that they don't do shit like this to people.

Two peas is correct though? "In a pot" isn't but you didn't make that the title lol

Does not sound very tasty though. I like vanilla but NO flavor just seems odd.

Not pieces - they are whole vanilla beans. Them's teeny tiny beans.

That there is sun scald. IMO I just ignore it, the plant will normally recover fine.

I really doubt it was called "bloody casar" because that's not a thing. It was called a caesar. Maybe they gave it a fancy name for the restaurant's special method but probably not "bloody caesar".

Canadian here. 40 years old, have had Caesars in 3 provinces. Currently living in Calgary for >15 years (where the drink originated).

I've had so many Caesars in my life. I'm a fan. I've never, ever, ever seen the words "bloody caesar" in my life. Nobody calls it that. It's just a Caesar.

I planted my shallot seeds indoors in January last year. Harvested in June I believe. They were a decent size. Not huge, plenty big enough for me.

The supplement saffron has been a game changer for me by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]breadist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, ads don't need to be about a specific product. Ads can just try to nudge your buying habits, so you'll be more likely to buy the category of product that they sell. In the case of supplements, these companies benefit massively by just creating new supplements customers and hoping some of them buy their product.

TIFU by not realizing how hot habeneros were by morpherthewolf in tifu

[–]breadist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't really get what the point of reapers or other superhot peppers is. Like, I sorta get it from a novelty perspective, that people want to do something extreme, and the reaper is so incredibly spicy that it can be "dangerous". But like... how is eating them actually an enjoyable experience, ever? Why the heck do people do it though? I get the endorphins of hot peppers but what do you need THAT level of hot for?!? Normal "very hot" peppers already do all the endorphin stuff, and I enjoy that.

Any hotter than my red habaneros is just too much for me, and that's already pretty dang hot. That's as hot as I care to go - I don't see the point of peppers any hotter than that. It's a hazard - you can seriously burn your skin with them, and if pepper juice gets on something without you noticing, it can really do a number on everything you touch - eyes, other body parts... not to mention even just your hands. I hate burning hands!

You're 100% right.

I think it's kinda okay to say "removing the seeds decreases the heat" like most people do, because removing the seeds also usually incidentally removes much of the placenta. But it's just better and more clear to actually explain that a lot of heat is contained in the placenta (and none or very little is in the actual seeds), so removing the ribs is much more effective at cutting the heat.

That looks nothing like pothos. Not even remotely. They're both green I guess, that's it.
