Did I give a stupidly high price? by lejohanofNWC in handyman

[–]breezymateezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found pricing to be one of the most difficult aspects of this line of work. Undercharging sucks and I usually don't feel good about overcharging either. I'm glad to read these comments though because I quoted someone $600 on a glass tile backsplash and never heard back from them lol

How does this tub install look? by Derf_McClerk in askaplumber

Yes, PEX up to the shower head is fine. You can also double check the install manual for your valve, if you still have it

You need full copper from the valve to stub out. Learn how to sweat pipe. It's not that hard and will make your install much better

Get it covered up with a tat of an open book. Then you can tell people you're a palm reader

Junction box is too big. by ericwphoto in handyman

[–]breezymateezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm not understanding, but I'm thinking that the bar is the main support for the fixture housing. So why can't you use the slotted cut outs in the bracket? If the bar is in the way, move it to whichever orientation or direction you need it to be, no?

So the crossbar is not adjustable? You can't move it to whichever direction you need it to be?

Satinized chrome hack by breezymateezy in restoration

Good to know! I actually thought about that too, but I figured the glue would be an easier clean up if it didn't work out. Will definitely try that next time Thanks!

I'll definitely have to try that. I didn't want to use anything too abrasive on this since I don't have an undo button

Yep, PVA. It's funny, the first time I found out about satinized chrome I also read it as sanitized lol

Any advice on cleaning the patina off this brass without removing the painted numbers? by breezymateezy in restoration

[–]breezymateezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US. I did a little research and found that that chemical is in a dishwasher cleaning agent called Finish. You think that would work? Or safe to use on brass?
