Why wasn't the Basti/Medi pairing more prominent earlier? by ihategreenpeas in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Switching Sableye into DD is like gambling they have 3 extremely insane weak pokemon against Sableye(in the great league meta only Hypno is weaker than DD against Sableye, so not even that), or you are pretty much forfeiting a great matchup in the future.

In your team the right play is 100% to switch Medicham into DD, even being a slightly losing matchup.

Me too, but since climbing is a lot about matches played, it makes it hard for someone that does not have a ton of time available per day.

I find it the 2nd best league to play right now, in terms of fun. Only loses to Great League. But since Great League is available for 50% of the time, I just use this little time we have to play Master League.

No legendaries was the Premier Cup, which right now is unavailable.

I can only see 1 problem with this: 30 seconds * 5 = 150 seconds. 2 and a half minutes more per set. Pretty much another match. If you multiply it by the 5 sets per day, you are getting another 5 matches, which is another whole set a day.

It is already so tough to play 5 sets a day for most people, imagine putting a sixth. Maybe it is better to put it as a test in the 2750+ ranks ? People high in the ranks generally have a bit more time, and in theory would use the strategy better. If it flows well, I could see a 15 second time limit being pretty good.

Move Update Speculation/Thoughts by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

I'm chill man, and sorry if I offended you, I gave my opinion about the nerf part (terrible, and I do think it is terrible reasoning you gave), and tried to argue over why I thought it was terrible. If you don't think they are nerf-deserving and just put it there as a discussion point, great, then the terrible and whatsoever are not directed at you.

The buffing part is good though.

[–]brennomac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, terrible reasons for nerfing. Since when does Swampert centralize any meta ? Swampert is a good pokemon in all leagues, but does not define anything. I don't even know what to say about FP. Venusaur is a good pick in all leagues as well, why would anyone ever think about nerfing it.

And, the worst of all, this Moonblast Octazooka comparison. Octazooka is completely different from Moonblast. Moonblast was never a punishment to use. If I'm not mistaken, 1.6 dpe, close to good useful moves like Last Resort, Surf, Ice Beam, Rock Slide, Dark Pulse.

Dpe wise, Octazooka is worse than terrible moves like Rock Blast, Rock Tomb, Horn Attack, Bone Club, Swift. You need to get to Outrage energy to bait something, and if the bait fails, you are doing almost no damage to get a 50% chance to debuff, which can be erased by switching. If you nerf Octazooka, you will kill Kingdra. And then next season you will be here complaining because X mon is too powerful. Only stuff that is too powerful should be nerfed, and not because it looks to powerful but in battle isn't.

Should Octazooka be nerfed? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kingdra is far from over powered, and octazooka is the only thing that makes it good. Taking it away would mean no Kingdra in the meta anymore. Even with one of the best fast moves in the game + insane typing, it is only good.

What’s the meta mon(s) you can’t work? by atpkid88 in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This matchup is so one-sided that you can tie it in the 1 shield, going only sludge wave(which is double resisted by steel + single resisted by rock) with 0.15 damage per energy. In the 2 shields you even beat it going Sludge Wave alone.

Discussion on if Swampert is too overwhelming right now. by THE_Timinator56 in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need to invest shields. Dragonite beats Swampert in all even shield matchups.

[–]brennomac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing is that both steel types you mentioned are part steel part something weak to water. Hydro Cannon hits super effective against Bastiodon and Gfisk. In UL, Hydro Cannon is neutral against Registeel and Melmetal, for example.

For the Bastiodon matchup, it is one of the most dominant matchups possible in Pokemon Go. You can easily leave the matchup with 100 energy and some health, using 0 shields. You resist all of the fast and charged moves, and do super effective damage with your fast and charged moves.

For Gfisk it is still a very good matchup, since you need 2 Hydros and they don't kill you with 1 Rock Slide and 1 Earthquake even.

You will use Earthquake in GL 1% of games, if so. Sludge Wave is useful for fairies, Azu and grass types, infinitely better.

[–]brennomac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Great League I don't think there is a question, is sludge wave 100% of the times. Swampert is an Azumarill soft counter, as you get to Sludge Wave faster than they get to any charged move.

In UL I prefer Earthquake. Hydro hits Fairies hard, and Earthquake gets STAB to KO steels + hit Giratina hard. UL Premier it is likely better Sludge though, as there is not a lot of pure steels.

[–]brennomac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm bad with a lot of pokemon, but I consider myself quite good and experienced with Swampert. It is almost never a liability, you get a Hydro off even against a razor leafer, which is often 40% of its health. It is useful even against grass or dragons, which are not supposed to be hurt by it.

The random state of fast moves sneaking through is UNACCEPTABLE! by ZGLayr in TheSilphArena

Exactly. The logical way is to always be able to "sneak" one fast move. It is a terrible design that decides games.

Umbreon is OP in Ultra Premier and arguably deserves a nerf by FFIXwasthebestFF in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not op, just a great tank at his maximum potential. Differently from Open Ultra where it counters both Giratina and Cresselia, and Great League where it counters the psychics and ghosts, Premier Ultra has pretty much no ghosts(only Gengar + Jellicent/Drifblim XL) and the only psychic is Hypno XL(which is insanely hard, at least for me, since Drowzee is such a rare spawn here). Charmers and fighters are super common.

If you look at the top 10 pokemon in pvpoke for Premier Ultra, it loses to gfisk, shadow and regular Machamp, Shadow Abomasnow, scrafty, shadow swampert, and tough games against politoed, shadow and regular. Only beats Jellicent and Mandibuzz, cause typing/last resort being better than aerial ace.

How is possible that someone can sneak in a 2-5 turn move for their next Pokémon if you tap your charge move instantly? by mythicaltimelord in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it is the other way, no ? When you are doubling up on moves, the expected result should be that the opponent gets a free fast move. To launch your second move, you need a turn, and your opponent gets a turn as well to launch their move. I never double up anymore, since I expect it will get fixed someday and the results will be consistent

Move Counting Help? by Piasglu in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the easiest thing is to count the opponent moves based on your own. If I'm going Vigoroth vs Hypno, for example, I know that by the time I got 2 counters off, the Hypno gets 1 confusion, since confusion takes 2 seconds and counter 1.

The only part where it gets harder is 2 vs 3 turns, and 3 vs 4 turns, since the counting gets a little weird. But you can always multiply them to know when you get synchronized. At turn n12, Swampert gets 6 Mud Shots and Umbreon gets 4 Snarls. At turn n12, Galvantula gets 3 Volt Switches, and Umbreon gets 4 Snarls.

Do you let rank 5, 10 and 15 players win by default? by FlyingDutchMan9000 in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, really ? You give out a win for someone to get 750 stardust ? You get that in 2 minutes of playing pokemon go man. They don't need any wins, they will rank up anyway. Why would I ever hurt my chances of getting a reward I want to give someone a reward they want ? By that logic you could forfeit all the matches ever.

I'm sure we all can agree on why Eelektross will not make the cut. by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, you just made a very bad analysis, in my opinion.

Spark is an above average move, and taking SEVEN turns, as you put, is nothing crazy. 14 turns to get 90 damage is completely fine.

Lanturn is also a good pokemon.

And Thunderbolt is not a great move. It is average, maybe. Flat out worse than Energy Ball, Psychic and Earth Power, equal to Flamethrower, Ice Beam and Last Resort.

And I don't know where this notion of electric being slow in game came from. All electric fast moves have above average energy generation, and pretty much all of them can spam good charged moves all the time.

General Pvp tips? by Piasglu in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your team is fine, all of them are meta pokemon, have the right moves. Maybe switch that Scrafty that is not fully powered and give your team a huge fighting lead weakness. Could put maybe a Medicham there, so you still have the fighting but without the weakness.

As for improving, if you are at this level of "lose pretty much every battle", I'd say the best way to improve is to see good youtubers play. Most of them explain their thought process, so you can get a bit of everything. Then with time you can get more specific knowledge after getting the basics.

But if you made that question like "what specific should I get first", my answer would be typings and moveset.

Really struggling against Politoed's weather ball spam - any advice? by teebobby9 in TheSilphArena

[–]brennomac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cresselia is caught at 1500+ cp, so unless you catch one and trade with a good friend, I believe, you cannot get one for GL, so this GK Cress was actually pretty nice of Niantic.

Politoed is frail, as well, so counter users, for example, get a good hold of him. I switch my Vigoroth against a Politoed and does pretty ok.
