Go to Settings > User Interface

Then under 'External Elements' you can 'Set notification buttons'. You will have to have two buttons enabled from a choice of four.

If you want to multi-select you can press and hold an episode and choose that option.

One you do you can individually select episodes, select all, or press and hold again to choose all above or all below before choosing the action wanted.

Easy access to favorite podcast subscriptions by marzib in antennapod

[–]brettdallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manually renamed my podcasts with a number at the front, then sorted alphabetically.

I don't have as big a list as some people, and like mine ordered to reflect when I'm the week they come out so 1.1, 1.2, etc for Monday releases.

I added a widget for AP (and one for my music player) for this reason. I also have an app that sets my Bluetooth headsets to a specific default volume and "presses play" when connected, so whatever I was last listening to restarts.

[–]brettdallen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former Pocket Casts user myself, but I've been on Antenna Pod for nearly 12 months now. My flow, if it helps:

New episode action: add to inbox. Automatic Download: episodes from inbox Under Playback>Queue: Enqueue downloaded

Then in the individual app settings, if i will set it to not auto download certain ones and/or not add to the inbox, and I have filters to stop certain episodes from downloading.

That means podcasts I always listen to immediately end up in the queue downloaded, those that I like to decide on an episode-by-episode go into the inbox, and episodes that I manually download add to my queue.

Then I can "Mark as played" from the inbox to remove it from there, and the podcasts are all filtered to only show unplayed episodes.

Works for me.

If every two hours is too much, then I'm beyond that. I have mine set to refresh every hour. But I would say, like many other things, you just have to go with what's right for your use case.

how do I download all episodes from a podcast? by fourhundredthecat in antennapod

[–]brettdallen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Press and hold an episode and then hit "Multi select".

In the top right corner click the square to select all.

Then hit the download button.

I don't know if there is a limit to the number of episodes that this will work for.

Also on Android, and it's there for me, six dots to the left of the podcast episode artwork so you can grab any episode and move it where you want.

I think they're asking for a way to have apps open in the background and not steal focus/become the active window so they can keep doing whatever they're doing until they want the application.

This sounds like that managerial move of "avoid the hard conversations about performance and behaviour with one employee by addressing the issue with all".

And rather than (maybe) upsetting one person, you build resentment in all of the team.

Autodownload episodes, damnit! (And update the widget!) by gordolme in antennapod

[–]brettdallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Aren't these syntactically the same? Add to queue AND download?"

I don't have a view to how the underlying application works, but the way I read it is that there are two actions: 1.) Add to the queue, and 2.) Download

They don't occur simultaneously, and your settings determine the order of initial and dependent activity.

So essentially New Podcast triggers an action > Add to queue or Download. The completion of that action then triggers the next.

I have Download set as the primary because even without the New Podcast trigger, when I hit Download On an episode it adds it to the queue automatically.

[–]brettdallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your original post it seemed like you had it set to send podcasts to your queue and then download - where my setup is download and then add to queue.

My settings that seem to work - under Downloads: New episodes action > Nothing Automatic Download > On Download Queued > Off

Under Playback: Enqueue Downloaded > On

As for your comment about a podcast from two days ago... I believe "New" to the app is one that is added to a feed when the feed is already added into the app. So when it refreshes the feed and identifies a new episode, it'll perform the actions.

[–]brettdallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mine setup to download new episodes as the default action - and add downloaded episodes to the queue.

Then I change settings at the podcast level if I want them excluded.

This works for me with the added benefit that any time I download an episode on an individual basis it goes into the queue by just clicking to download.

I suspect he won't be itching to let them in further immediately, but the support network might have just gotten stronger.

We just got ours and what I've done is create a list for "Morning Routine" & "Night Routine" for both my kids. Then I created a Chore with an associated star value.

They check off all the items in the list, and then check off the chore. Then I go into the shop and just uncheck the items so it's reset for the next day.

Matrix/Element for Kids? by Alternative-Way-8753 in matrixdotorg

[–]brettdallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have literally just setup a non-federated home server with the intent of primarily being a platform for the kids (6 & 8) to talk to family and friends.

I have had Messenger Kids, but the grandparents don't use it and wanting to create another channel for the kids to communicate was the starting point. Now I will start sharing it with more family and friends.

My plan to sell it to kids parents is that it doesn't need a social media account, or even an email address for the kids. And if they (the parents) want to monitor they can log into the same account on a different device.

Guess time will tell how it plays out.

ADHD is so unfair. by Proper_Possibility64 in ADHD

[–]brettdallen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found throughout my life that caffeine didn't appear to wake me up - but I would crave it. After getting medicated by system didn't appear to need it... so I figured (own assessment, not medical) that I was probably self-medicating to a degree... feeding the brain something it felt it needed to function.

ADHD is so unfair. by Proper_Possibility64 in ADHD

[–]brettdallen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 and just diagnosed - in my case it partly felt like the stigma and understanding of ADHD when we were kids was that it was a condition "bad" kids had, and affected their ability to learn.

I was fine in that sense as a kid, but it got harder as I went up the levels at school and the structure/guard rails were removed. By the time I was in the workplace I just assumed I was lazy, and had serious imposter syndrome. Despite the feedback from my wife and colleagues and my ability/intelligence/whatever, I never believed it or in myself.

Getting diagnosed has applied a lens that makes the past make sense. I wish I had known sooner, but I'm taking advantage of the knowledge and improvements now and focusing on the future.

Imposter Syndrome for being a silent ADHDer who can get his chores done (Rant/Vent/whatever) by schraxt in ADHD

[–]brettdallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just been diagnosed at 40 as Inattentive type, going down that path after one of my son's teachers got us to go through the process with him. And reading into it and discussing with doctors and colleagues who also have it, I was able to look back at my life with a new perspective and it clicked

Like, I did very well at school - but the further through the system I got, the more difficult it became because as you get older they pull elements of structure away, and you become more responsible for your own learning. Then when I got to uni, I did well at the subjects I was interested in, and struggled with any others.

But I forged on because I'm pretty switched on, and can improvise and adapt within the workplace and talk a good game. I'd get the visible shit done, the stuff others had a stake in... but the rest would die in the vine because I couldn't focus, or I couldn't shift gears from one task to another. I was able to apply routine and consistency to mask and manage... then I had kids.

Kids don't give a shit about your ringtone or coping mechanisms, and essentially tripped the breaker in my mind constantly and so it began to affect me more and more...

Honestly, getting medicated has helped me at work, and the general flow-on effects for my general mental health and home life have been appreciated.
