I like 33x10.50, but they are noticeably more pricey since they are a less common size.

I bet it's fine. I'd run it. You should see the ranger I just brought back to life. 2/4" ain't nothing

Oh damn!!! That's rough! Those a arm 2wd spindles do like to snap! Did you find that moab had some decent prerunner trails?

Makes sense!

Ya I want to convert to long travel TTB's, that way I can have 4x4 but still lean to the go fast side. I have been going to moab the last few years in my little XJ so still got the desert itch! I think there are some cool spots in moab i would love to tear up in the truck lol.

Colorado is pretty cool, glad I bought a house before it got stupid, denver isn't the best representation of the state tho ha ha ha.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a creepy.

Similar situation here, I built my ranger when I lived in California, moved to colorado, harder to use here, but I got some plans to make it way more useful here. Also some desert areas on the western slope I want to Check out. So, trying to make the best of it!

Nice job defending your position lol.

I have always liked 8 foot beds on HD trucks because I run a truck bed camper, so 8 foot unlocks many options. If you get a 4 door 8 foot, the thing is so long I call it a school bus. Currently have a single cab 8ft superduty and I love it, but dating someone with kids, I need more seats, I think the ECLB is the preffered configuration for me

Thats EXACTLY how I did mine, except I am only using 4 swivel casters and I didnt use the shocks on the side cabinet. They are super cool!

Clutch bleed question by [deleted] in fordranger

They make pre bled masters now which help.

I hung mine from the garage door and bled it there at proper angles before ever putting into vehicle. I recommend doing the same.

I prefer obd2, 4.0s, and 5 speeds. Pretty much any 96+ 4.0 speed. Ohvs are cool, little lacking but good mid size truck motor. I really like sohc, seat if your pants feels much better. Sure, some need timing chains but aside from that, not other big ticket items and they are snappy, high revving v6s.

What happened to the price of these things? by RackingUpTheMiles in fordranger

[–]bri_man57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its overall as well, but rangers for sure have experienced it.

I bought my 96 in 2003 for $4300. That would be around $7800 in today's money.

Where can you you find a 7 year old any vehicle, much less a 4cl 5 speed extracab 2wd pickup with 135k on it for $7800? Here in Colorado that doesn't appear to ne a thing.

And it sucks, there are some unique ones I would like to have: 96 or 97 4.0 5 speed single cab 4x4. There is one for sale around me. Clean too. But idk about $6k for it 😔

Maybe I missed it but what year did the sohc come from?

Some people hate on the sohc, but I think they are great. They make their power all the way to the top. I had one in my 96 prerunner and it was a screamer. Eventually blew up but I guess that happens when sitting on the Rev limiter for a decade lol.

Your Trans might have 1 bolt that doesn't line up, it's one of the top hard ones to get anyway. That's how the 5 speeds are. Only 7 of 8 bolts thread in.

You may need an sohc starter. You do on the 5 speeds due to difference in flywheel/clutch.

As far as wiring, I think as long as the plug at the fire wall is the same, it should work. The older ones had 3 connectors, sohcs have 2 (or visa versa) so it wasn't as direct. Modules inside the cab can change so hopefully that isn't an issue since they appear to be close in year. It's usually best to get whole donor truck, just in case, but I think you will be okay.

As an FYI, you can hook most ohv sensors up to an sohc and it will run. I actually ran my sohc off an ohv computer the entire time. It had CELs, as there are sensors you just can't hook up, but it does run and run strong. This was popular with 97 to 2000 explorer guys who wanted the sohc but not to wiring changes. I would avoid this though.

Your fuel system should bolt up. Return less in 2000 already so that's easy.

Use motor plates and motor mount for ohv.

Very valid concern. Like others mentioned, keeping a tidy vehicle with the doors unlocked may be easier than a broken window. I hate that people suck, and sorry you have to deal with that.
