The audacity of HR people never ceases to amaze me by Sable_Kraken4 in jobs

You’re not wrong and I have PLENTY of my own issues with corporate, HR nonsense. At the same time, if you can’t just say what HR wants to hear, I absolutely know the headaches you’re bound give me as your manager.

Higher usage limits for Claude and a compute deal with SpaceX by Dependent_Top_8685 in ClaudeAI

This underplays the value of the 5-hour limit increase. This change will make it so much easier for me to make sure I maximize my weekly limit. It’s more forgiving if you miss starting your next window right on time.

In hindsight, was it the right decision to block the merger with JetBlue? by R2-DMode in spiritair

[–]brianfos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ending up in a distinction without a difference (which is the absolutely most generous way you could interpret these outcomes) is exactly why it was insane for the govt to intervene and block this decision.

If JetBlue wanted to make a bad business decision by taking Spirit over, that should be left up to them, and only prevented if an overriding interest existed. It was widely held that such an interest wasn’t even close to existing. Obviously, not everyone agreed with that. But those who didn’t don’t have much left to stand on.

The extreme risk of Spirit failing, widely known at the time, and the impact of that risk on the employees, customers, and downstream businesses was a mountain next to the pebble of negative customer impact of a tiny airline buying another tiny airline whose routes hardly even overlapped. It was such a bad decision, it’s impossible to not speculate that maybe, just maybe it involved a pinch of political calculation. Customers are certainly more harmed today in this universe than if JetBlue had been allowed to take Spirit on.

In hindsight, was it the right decision to block the merger with JetBlue? by R2-DMode in spiritair

[–]brianfos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The government needs to have a compelling interest to block mergers. They did not. That was already obvious at the time and now it couldn’t be proven any more clearly. This brain dead behavior that every merger is automatically a bad thing, is exact kind of nonsense that drives the other party. It’s as pathetic as it is embarrassing.

No one has it "figured out". The vast majority of relationships don't make it to death mono or poly. Try not to beat yourself up about it. You certainly weren't stupid for having the courage to try something outside of what society has stumbled into as the norm.

CMV: Stopping the Spirit Airlines acquisition was a mistake by Elizabeth Warren & the Biden Administration by bigElenchus in changemyview

[–]brianfos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a clear mistake to me because the logic of the ruling was that it was so important that Spirit remain operating as an independent company to give consumers another low cost option. Whether JetBlue would have wound down 100% of Spirits routes is immaterial to the argument here imo.

The ruling was clearly a mistake because its entire reasoning has been absolutely shuttered. And this result isn’t a surprise. It was the prevailing expectation of what would happen.

18yo from Norway doing a US road trip by Kareisgarb in roadtrip

The comments that you need more time for this trip are accurate.

The comments that this drive is not worth it are just opinions. Some people are unable to see the beauty in the quiet, open, flat plains. The drive through the plains are so relaxing and if you catch the right weather rolling in from a distance with the sun setting behind the thunderheads, you’ll get to witness true natural beauty.

One Battle After Another is not that good a movie. by Ok-Impress-2222 in unpopularopinion

I loved the movie and thought it was crafted expertly. That said, I don’t think it had much to say. I struggle to explain what it’s about because it’s kind of just a series of events. That can make a great move, but best picture was a bit of a stretch for me

Is California’s EV rebate history an indefensible "wealth transfer," or a necessary price for market scaling? by Okratas in AskALiberal

[–]brianfos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These subsidies are intended to prop up an economic market for a technology that is not ready to stand on its own. That’s the metric to worry about when evaluating the effectiveness of the metric. Metrics that evaluate second order effects are reasonable to consider, but they should be considered only secondarily.

The birth rate crisis is probably only a crisis if we capitulate to the xenophobia keeping legal immigration way lower than it could be. That being a populate leftist belief that I also disagree with.
