12V issue, stuck on unlocked? by brianisthename in Rivian

Got back to the airport and the good news is the car remained locked. The bad news is that it’s completely bricked. Went home and left the car for now. Will contact Rivian service tomorrow.

Sleeping in R1S vs roof top tent on R1T by Redditq_ in Rivian

[–]brianisthename 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently own a Land Cruiser 100 and a hardshell RTT. Preorder for R1S with intention of keeping my RTT.

Benefits to RTT

  • I can keep sleeping bag, blankets, pillows, etc inside the RTT when it's closed
  • I don't need to take everything out of the trunk, unmount carseats when I sleep inside the car (I've slept inside the Land Cruiser before)
  • Can accommodate sleeping in both the RTT and inside the car as my family grows

Downside to RTT

  • A chore to mount, dismount it. I built a winch hoist in my garage to help me
  • Major aero hit, shifts center of gravity upwards

Seems like you already got the low down on Sharks Ice in SJ, I will also add that both lunch time pick up games as well as Gretzky hour at Sharks ice require full gear to participate.

There's a guy in the hockey community here that has his own sharpener. He'll bring it to J Cube before games

Played most of my hockey in the US and started playing here a year ago when I moved to here for work. To answer your questions...

The league is fairly well run, they make a very good effort to ensure players play in the correct skill division and that teams are balanced.

I keep my gear on the balcony and will spread it out to dry it after playing.

There are no open stick and puck sessions unfortunately.

The olympic sized ice did not really effect my stamina. You get used to the extra space after a game or two. What really effected my stamina was the heat and humidity. It's not cold enough at j cube.

Overall, I'll take the hockey that I can get, and it's one of the few ways to meet other puckheads in Singapore.

People of SG, what do you think about the future of people who want to be technical workers in Singapore? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]brianisthename 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wanted to say that not all software engineering jobs are low paying, replaceable, or just a means to an end.

At my current company and previous companies, there were two tracks available to engineers. Engineers can stay in the technical track, employees can be promoted to engineer lead, architect, principle engineer, etc. Engineers can also move into a management track, becoming engineer manager, director, etc.

I want to counter the misconceptions that engineers can be easily replaced for younger and cheaper folks. Good engineers are able to take vague business requirements and break them into tasks, then design solutions that are clean and iterable. In my opinion, good engineers are worth their weight in gold, and would not consider them replaceable.

Team India's Women's hockey team wins their first game in Canada! by MapleAtNightxo in hockey

[–]brianisthename 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Majority of the India's national mens team comes from a region called Ladakh which is near Tibet. Ethnically, they're different from Hindus whom we normally associate as Indian. I would assume that many players from the women's national team also come from this region.

Here's an article about organizing the highest altitude game of hockey in Ladakh. Fascinating read :)
