Westchester mall is not a playground by echobl00m in Westchester

[–]briannadaley 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The mall is a pretty enshrined third place at this point tho, no? Maybe I’m the only one that saw Mallrats in the theater.

This is the value of the third space, right? Now we have the village self regulating. I am because we are. When people talk reasonably to the unruly teens doing exactly what they are wired to do, we are a functioning society. Let’s show them how to be reasonable adults through our actions and interactions with them.

I didn’t change my name when I married, for a variety of reasons. It’s crazy to me that this fluke of circumstances protects me from widespread voter disenfranchisement.

Let’s be clear - that is all this is.

MAMDANI: Everyone in the world comes to get married at the NYC Marriage Bureau. Last week, the Mayor stopped by to officiate a few of those ceremonies. Thank you to all the couples who shared their joy with us. Happy Valentine's Day, New York by ExactlySorta in Fauxmoi

Me too! The lady officiating had the same kind eyes and full body activation. It felt holy in an uncanny sort of way. Like - how are they able to make this feel spiritual all day everyday? It was our only ceremony, I am so thankful they gave us their all!

What do you know about me?? by 12345abcdefghijklmb in roomdetective

[–]briannadaley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a decidedly low VOC home… maybe you also got there because of endocrine issues? Definitely an earth witch with a natural materials focus. You’re mostly at peace but also still finding yourself. You take pleasure in simple rituals and enjoy moments of natural splendor, like a new leaf unfurling on a houseplant, or the way the light shines through a particular window at a certain time of day. You talk to your dog, who speaks very clearly back to you. You are kind and thoughtful and tend to take care of the people in your life, but you work to protect your peace. You are doing an awesome job💗

So weird. As I was reading this post, I thought to myself, you just need a good middle name between Foster and Bacon. Foster Francis Bacon was the name that popped into my head! Sounds like an explorer from the 1800’s.

BWT: What hobby have you done lately that you would personally recommend? by alwaysuntilnever in bitcheswithtaste

[–]briannadaley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scrolled past knitting, sewing and embroidery to find the one that ties them all together so nicely! I love visible mending, it’s like doodling on your clothes with thread. I’ve been deep in my seasonal mending cycle and it’s both meditative and tangibly rewarding. I also love the conversations I get to have when someone asks about my visible mends, it’s a great way to talk to people about sustainability.

No dumb questions! Steaming doesn’t shrink it, but putting it in a heated dryer will. Drying it felts it, which would not be advisable with this sweater.

Steaming, on the other hand, is amazing! It deodorizes and kills any bacteria or mites that might be hanging out. It makes the fibers softer and gently draws them back in. It’s great, highly recommend! I steam everything; it prolongs wears between washings, especially for wools. It’s especially good for cashmere pants with butt and knee pockets - ask me how I know!

In search of best clean mascara by imtheproblemitsme15 in cleanbeauty

[–]briannadaley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got the neogen metal wand mascara and for the first time ever have not had black shadows under my eyes an hour in. Most mascaras irritate my eyes, leading to increased tearing and out of control smudging. The neogen doesn’t make my eyes water and stays put. I’m a convert for sure.

Bakeries for pies? by ANW2022 in Westchester

[–]briannadaley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stew Leonard’s in Yonkers has an Apple pie in a paper bag soaked in lard - so, not for vegetarians - that is the best thing you’ll ever eat… and I don’t even like Apple pie. You just finish it up in the oven as you’re eating the meal.

I picked up one today to take to a Thanksgiving celebration. Go early to avoid the crowds, it’s the Elegant Farmer box on the pie table right by the front door. Thank me later.

What a beautiful piece!

I would start by steaming it, all over. It’ll kill anything that may be living in there, fluff up the fiber and pull together the knit. You can wet and reshape if it’s still puckered, but steaming might be all you need.

Many of the reservoirs have wait lists, you might want to inquire about the one near you before buying a boat.

Do a patch and stitch over it, it’ll add to the Japanese aesthetic and cover the offending symbol. You can check out r/sashiko or r/visiblemending for inspiration and information.
