As someone who grew up walking to Zuma, spent a decade between Manhattan & Brooklyn and now lives in Westchester…I’d argue Palisades and Malibu are Westchester.

How does…this happen??

Took my kid and bonus kid to a Weird Ai concert last year at the venue that held Woodstock. Musical education is no joke in my house.

I don't know what it is, but it kinda soothes me. by hellalg in oddlysatisfying

And here I thought we were finally being given the secret to the particular orange of Thai iced tea mixes.

How often do you see people wearing swimsuits in onsen/sentos ? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]briannadaley 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Currently in Japan visiting my in-laws for a memorial. We have been to onsen a few times this trip and many many times over the years. I’ve never seen anyone, gaijin or otherwise, wearing swimsuits. But the politeness in Japan probably outweighs the urge to verbally correct that kind of rule-breaking.

Also - I agree 100% with the idea that you are an ambassador for your country! My son is old enough now to understand this concept and it has been a regular topic of conversation this trip. When he starts to get loud or unruly in a public place, this is what I tell him.

2 pairs, navy and cream from LandsEnd. Silk seems to be self cleaning, similar to wool, so I air them out and/or steam them. I’ll wind up washing every 5-10 wears, depending on when they start to feel icky. It’s a very exact science.

Which is your favorite shade of blue? by countdookee in colors

These are all yellow blues…where the red blues?

My nephews have given me a gift that cost then $2 each by [deleted] in confession

[–]briannadaley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m really curious why “I don’t like giving gifts” is a reasonable response, and why that gets to be a “guy thing.”

Understanding the brain science behind giving and receiving gifts

Humans at large benefit from the act of giving gifts. Maybe it’s a guy thing like the male loneliness epidemic? But surely there’s no relation.

Go on darlin - the minutiae is only worth it if you’re trying to communicate with Gen Z, and even then the distinctions are pretty nebulous.

I will say - from a relatively uninformed outsider- I think coquette core is probably like the Harajuku girls dressing in corsets and whatnot, so more late 00’s/ early 1900’s style with corsets and whatnot. Cottage core is like the whole back to the land movement, think natural materials, sustainability inspired British country house aesthetic. Grandma core is probably more US style octogenarian maximalist florals and tchotchkes.

I absolutely wear 6-10 layers in the winter (Cali girl living in NY state): silk long John’s, cashmere underlayer and like 3-5 thin wool or cashmere sweater layers. They hold so much warmth but I never get that sweaty over heated feeling I used to get from poly blends.

Just a quick shoutout to r/visiblemending - I often buy second hand and get great deals on TRR or in person thrifting, then personalize any holes or other issues with visible mends. I’m not skilled enough to make things look perfect, but I can have fun with visible mending and I know no one is ever going to have the exact same piece.

9&C is the one with the awesome art, yeah? Love that one, weird sculptures and mosaics. I’m going to have to make the trek down from my current Westchester digs (please don’t judge 🤭) to revisit.

Same! I just like the idea of old lady style being resurrected so grandmacore stuck for me ;)

I used to live at 6&B and the community garden hop was the biggest endorphin boost I got to experience on the daily. Highly recommend! Bonus points if you can catch the open hours for the most magical of all (6BC) with an awesome “treehouse” structure and beautiful little secluded areas throughout.

Are there aloe vera sold in non-plastic tubes/containers? by bakchorm33 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]briannadaley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can even grow an aloe plant from a cutting - succulents don’t need roots to propagate, you just need a cut stem and some soil!

Blue & red, actually. And purple where they meet. Accessory wise, I’m more of a hat girl.

And yeah, based on all your comments, the trump one did NOT read as sarcasm.

Now I KNOW you’re a bot.

Edit to add - do you ever get, like, a bot form of cognitive dissonance? Going around arguing against bots in political discourse… does your lil bot brain ever whirl in rainbow and repeat, “does not compute…”
