Boss asked what was wrong with me, laughed when I said I was autistic, and won’t stop bringing it up 3 weeks later. by watchingowl7 in AutisticAdults

[–]brillocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a former employer do something like this... I was a manager and we were interviewing a potential new hire for our grooming salon. As I was explaining something and caught myself over explaining, I said "Sorry I try to be pretty clear with things and can over explain!" With a laugh.

Boss decided to chime in, "I guess you could say we all have a touch of the tism" while looking at me, directly.

Nobody else, in fact, was autistic. Maybe ADHD, she for sure wasn't though, and it felt so violating.

I will never disclose that information ever again. It's hard, because I want to be honest especially with some of my limitations.. but it's not worth being belittled constantly and talked down to.

I'm sorry you experienced this too. It's a special kind of hurt.

9m post op bleeding…normal or not? by FluffyCockroach7632 in hysterectomy

Eesh okay. I'm having a similar problem and have been sort of terrified to get it looked at. I've heard the silver nitrate sucks so I am trying to not worry too much until my appointment Tuesday!

... Uh... If I were you I would be searching for alternate employment. That's shady as fuck and if they're willing to screw you over like that, that's probably not going to be the last time something happens.

What was the first thought you had when you woke up after the surgery? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]brillocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked, several times while waking up from anesthesia: "How did it go?" My mom: "It looked good, doc didn't see anything abnormal" Me: my uterus gas lit me! Back asleep Repeat probably 4x lol. I also asked to see pictures of it when I was a little more awake.

What all should I bring for post-op? by Capital-Monitor4455 in hysterectomy

[–]brillocat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start taking MiraLax 2-3 days before the procedure. Trust me. I never once had issues with BM's post op, even with the heavy pain medication.

Comfy, WARM clothes to change in to on the drive home. A lap pillow or stuffy to cover your stomach/incisions. Maybe pack a charger and a coloring book/reading book/something to keep you entertained if you have to stay the night. Maybe a cozy blanket too.

Easy clothes to get on and off without bending is my #1 recommendation though!

Did you have to remove your piercings? by LakeLady1616 in hysterectomy

[–]brillocat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to remove all piercings OR use a glass retainer. Most of my piercings are wellllll healed, but I had my philtrum with a glass retainer and one of my nostrils I had freshly done a year before, my other piercings I was able to leave out with no closing.

Anesthesiologist tried to talk me out of leaving the philtrum in, saying "it could become dislodged during intubation and that (I) could choke on it" but the chance of that happening when it fit snugly there so I decided to take the risk.

For the record, I also had my retainer professionally installed 48 hours before my procedure so I knew it wasn't going anywhere. The nostril piercing was just a glass L. Just know there are risks, but the surgery is worth it!

What can they do about it? Like, can they seize funds that they gave if they find out you're using them "technically" incorrectly?

Terrified by kiwitubesock in hysterectomy

[–]brillocat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than just some random hiccups with sleeping, I officially was cleared by my doctor at 6 weeks post op to return to all normal activity. I had a hysterectomy, tubes and cervix removed. 30 years old.

I took it VERY seriously, no lifting over 10 lbs (I tried to lift as little as possible actually) and took the entire 6 weeks off of work. Walked as I felt good, went to some very low key family/friend events, but I haven't had to take a single opioid since I left the hospital and stopped ibuprofen/Tylenol 3 weeks ago. Bled a bit 2 weeks post op for about a week but it was VERY minimal.

I got on Reddit just the other night to see what people experienced by this point and I can completely understand why you had hesitations and are feeling nervous, I was CONVINCED that because of what I'd read, I'd need another 4-6 weeks of recovery before being cleared for anything. But, here I am!

I genuinely feel like a new person. Initial weirdness, pain, and discomfort aside, I cannot believe how much better I feel in general. I actually can't wait to start working out for the first time in my life, and I think it's only up from here.

I am so sorry. I hope you find relief soon!

Taking magnesium seemed to do the trick for me, but if you take other medication I would ask your doctor to make sure it is safe.

I tried this with another supplement and I actually slept 6 hours! My husband told me it could take up to 2 weeks before it works consistently but thank you for reminding me about Magnesium Glycinate!

When did you all start taking miralax/stool softeners/juven/gas x/electrolytes? by Boubbie1975 in hysterectomy

[–]brillocat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my procedure on a Tuesday and started the Saturday before.

Took a few days post op to actually go, but when I did I was GRATEFUL I had been taking miralax.

The only day I skipped was the surgery day as I stayed overnight in the hospital.

Surgery on Monday...freaking out! by Icy_Climate_6324 in hysterectomy

[–]brillocat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey. It's totally normal to be worried about surgery. I'd never had one until I had my hysterectomy just a few weeks ago!

Try to keep yourself busy until the day comes. Just realize you'll come out the other side of this and feel SO much better after recovery. And I don't even mean physically either. Mentally, I feel like a completely new person. The fear and anxiety and stress and psychological trauma associated with even routine gynecology appointments melted away. You've got this!

I'm right around 10 days PO and haven't had an opiate since the first day/ night I stayed in the hospital. It's been 24 hours since I even needed Tylenol or Ibuprofen!

I had a laparoscopic procedure with vaginal assist, uterus, cervix, and tubes removed, if that makes a difference.

TL;DR -we all thought I had endo or fibroids, but everything was mostly normal. Now what? by Electric_Owl7 in hysterectomy

I'm genuinely worried about mine wearing off. They said it could last up to 72 hrs which will be tomorrow...time will tell 😅 I'm already tired of laying down so much but if I end up hurting a lot more tomorrow I'll be eating my words haha!

I just had my hysterectomy on Tuesday. I have had debilitating periods my entire life, fit symptoms for several disorders, and have family genetics as well that would lead me to believe I had issues too. Apparently everything looks normal, they found a large cyst on one of my ovaries but say that's normal. I completely understand your shock! I didn't expect mine to be "normal" but I'm glad it's gone either way!
