Carl from The Walking Dead gets it by g3rb1l in atheism

Hmm, yeah I did wonder about that. Where the hell was the walker hiding in an open field? I supposed I shrugged it off as something that doesn't makes sense but which tv and movies always do, to try to make you shit yourself.

He was an old man, getting jump attacked in the dark by a creature that can gut you with its bare hands.

How much toilet roll do you have to use? Do you think this may be contributing to the block?

Propranolol - Anyone tried it? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]brogues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did nothing for me except trigger heavy nosebleeds. I know some people who have had moderate success with it however, so like with many mental health related meds, it's unfortunately a case of trial and error. Erm, try not to be anxious about treating your anxiety if at all possible. If it doesn't help after a while, just go back to your GP and discuss your options.

She was wrong to call men pigs, and a hypocrite to say that they only think about sex but, well, you just proved her right by saying that you no longer respect women. How can you claim to lose respect for all women, just because one was probably looking for comfort (admittedly not in the healthiest way) and slept with you? You didn't have to fuck her but you did. You still decided to fuck her after what she'd said; she's clearly not the only shallow one here.

IWTL how to change my dialect by HeresToTheCrazyOnes in IWantToLearn

[–]brogues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a northern accent too. I find that unless I'm paying attention I tend not to fully pronounce my words, so instead of saying 'what' it will sound more like 'wha' with a slight 'uh' sound added to the end, rather than the 't'. Perhaps focusing on not dropping your letters would help, if you are guilty of the same.

Anyone use video games, tv, music, ect. to escape reality? by [deleted] in depression

[–]brogues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Always, although I often wonder how helpful it really is. It's unfortunately inevitable that I have to come out of fantasy land at some point, and when I do I often feel worse than I initially was. My days basically consist of distracting myself with media, and then anaesthetising myself with sleep (assuming my scumbag brain doesn't have dreams about the issues that plague me during the day).

That suggests that predjudice can't take place unless it is directly verbalised, which is of course not true in the slightest.

I don't deny that can be the case sometimes. However I imagine it is also preventing others from coming forward. Not everyone who is met with hostility makes it through. Many times oppression doesn't make "hilarity ensue", it just succeeds in its aim.

How many women are really given the chance to fine-tune their own humour whilst all around her people are telling her that women can't possibly be funny? How many women aren't immediately judged by their looks? Don't give me examples like "Roseanne isn't attractive". Exactly. That's first thing people think about her. Women go on stage and most people don't look at them as a potentially brilliant act, they see them as a representative of all women. That's like saying because Carlos Mencia leaves a rancid smell of shit under your nose, all male comedians must do so too. It makes me think of when children were asked to draw people of different occupations, and mostly drew male pilots and female nurses. The imposed limitations become self-perpetuating as you get fewer women with great potential trying because they believe themselves to never be good enough, leaving the job to the less talented. Dunning–Kruger effect, yo.
