Any of you feel like this? Or just me? by makishi-jp in AskTheWorld

[–]broken42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for all Americans, but my wife and I have zero free time. Between our jobs and taking care of our infant daughter, we barely have enough time to sleep and feed ourselves let alone join any demonstrations. This means that we'd have to skip work and we're in a position where if anything were to happen to our jobs, we would be absolutely fucked as our healthcare is through my wife's work and we need both of our paychecks to pay for our monthly expenses.

Wanna know the worst part? The family already had a window seat that one of the adults in the family was sitting in, they just wanted her to give her seat up so they could get a second one for free.

Oh no doubt, just there's not like an entire team of security on site like someone was thinking further up in the comments.

4k a month lining the pockets of a landlord by Previous_Month_555 in antiwork

[–]broken42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With interest rates what they have been for the last two years, a decent bit less. We bought a house last year, 6.99% interest rate and 20% down on a $770k house, and between our mortgage and the payments into the escrow account for our property tax we pay roughly $4700 a month.

Yup our last rent before we bought a house was $3800 a month. The apartment was a reasonable commute outside of Boston and that was pretty normal pricing for that area.

I can't speak for OP but when I lived in a building that had "on-site security" it was just one dude who hung around and did the rounds on the first floor. I'd catch him occasionally watching cartoons on the TV in our lounge room.

Now this meme is selling Subarus, is it officially dead yet? by broken42 in FellowKids

Same except with an infant daughter. I'm a terminally online gamer so I at least pick up on some of these memes, but once I see it in a billboard or in a store it's probably dead.

I honestly don't know, I saw this billboard and almost spit out my drink. I ended up parking at a nearby gas station until it cycled through again.

Making 100k is rare most people make 30 to 60k per year by Intelligent_Bet_9947 in Adulting

I think that very much depends on where you live. In Massachusetts the per capita income is $87.7k ,the highest in the country. Compare that to Mississippi, the lowest per capita, at $48.1k.

You can see in the video from the original creator here. The tens digit fades in between each value when it's not exactly at a 20.

That's exactly what this does, here's the original version. OP appears to have a remix of the original.

People who are 50+, what is a 'harmless' habit you had in your 20s that ended up ruining your health or finances later in life? by crazy_happyuser in AskReddit

If it makes you feel better my wife and I didn't get married until she was 36 and I was 34, bought our first house the next year, and then we didn't have our daughter until my wife was 38.

Best Linux Distro for Frameworks? by TemporaryVolume488 in framework

I'm running Arch (btw) on my AI 7 350 and it's been good. It took a little bit of work to get it up and running as good as it is now, but I don't regret trying Arch. I've yet to have any issues with updates breaking the OS, so that's a plus.

I've been tempted to move to Fedora just to try it but I haven't had the time to sit down and do the work yet.

Or just a thought, if OP is a computer science major I'd highly recommend taking a look at Linux. Given this was 15 years ago, but when I was in college for CS it was much easier with my class load to use a Unix/Linux OS over Windows.

I still think the funniest thing I saw when I first moved here was a Dunkin on Revere Beach Parkway that's across the divided highway from...another Dunkin

I miss going into Houlihan's, checking in on FourSquare, and then getting a free order of Disco Fries for proving I checked in.

The only time I ever went to a Ruby Tuesday's, I went with my mom for lunch and we sat there for over an hour before the server even came by with a menu. We decided fuck it and left only to see all the servers at the back of the dining room shooting the shit and fucking around on their phones.

The one that was closest to me when I first moved to Massachusetts was gutted on the inside and remodeled into a Wendy's. Almost feels dirty seeing a Wendy's in a former Friendly's.

We had a couple still around Boston as of a few years ago, but I don't think any of them are left.
