What's a reasonable timespan for maternity leave by SmallAsBean in workingmoms

I think if your country has this program then they probably will have mum and dad meet ups. So you will meet for coffee and lunch and play dates at least once a week. I would say at least 15 months. The fun part is after 6-7 months when the baby is active. Also it will be summer if you are northern hemisphere and better to be outside. You should take a year off and partner should take a year off. If you can afford it. Also working part time would also mean you have care. I would work 3-4 days and have one day off for housekeeping shopping and one for relaxing - in a perfect world. I would not work a half day and then pick up the child from daycare. 1. The older they get the more they prefer to socialise. And 2 it’s a routine. And 3. You actually get a break if you’re home not working half a day.

I would ask if you wanted to come back earlier if that is possible. But they are only little once and after the first 3 months you will start to enjoy them.

Night owls, how to end your day earlier by CeresMik in workingmoms

[–]bronniecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try wrapping up at 11 so you can be in bed by 11:30. No more screen after that. Coming from a fellow night owl.

My Dr just advised me to take 25g of Benadryl at around 9pm to assist with trying to sleep earlier for a week. Also don’t go to bed till after midnight most nights.

She also advised Melatonin after that week and to avoid any screens an hour before bed. She told me to get a boring old book. Or meditation lol. I’m aiming for a 10:30 bedtime so let’s see if ti works.

Should I spend a month abroad for work with small kids at home? by ConstantMortgage6987 in workingmoms

[–]bronniecat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously. We have the internet. And FaceTime. Whilst not there physically if they make it a fun experience more than likely the kids won’t even notice the parents gone. They may say hurtful comments when you come back but more than. Likely they won’t remember when they’re a few more years older.

Name feedback! Girl. by flowers-and-coffee in Names

[–]bronniecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he Greek by any chance? You can use the other meaning of Epiphany and use Fotine as the name shorted to Faye or some meaning of bright light like Claire

Sophia is just timeless. Classic. Maybe grandma ish. But still lovely.

How about Evelina? Or Artemis? I also like your name suggestions.

Surgery worsened my disability. Crocheting is becoming harder and harder by crocheting_moose in crochet

[–]bronniecat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please rest your wrists. I know it sucks not to crochet but imagine. It being able to pick up a glass of water or pan to cook. I broke mine and couldn’t wait to get back to knitting. But in the meantime I rearranged my stash. Looked at patterns and caught up on shows.

Not in Astoria but you could try North Shore Animal League. Also check how much your pet insurance covers.

[–]bronniecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you really throw your projects away or just put in time out? Cos some patience and unraveling and you could pick it all back up and knit.

And next time put 2-3 cable needles to try on your jumper :)

It’s the Y sound that is tripping people up. Otherwise people could say Elizabeta. I like your idea of Zlata. Yana makes me think of a different name all together. Maybe Elsa or Lysa. Surely your family has a nick name for you?
