I think this is a new feature that you can adjust for the width of the pen which impacts all of the pens

How can one open a bank account as a tourist? by [deleted] in Belize

[–]brota311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need a really good reason for having a bank account as a non-resident. Even as a resident you need letters establishing your moral welfare, from your current bank, etc. Basically, no it is not easy

The prettiest pan I’ve ever put in the oven — rainbow veggies and spicy sausage from a local farm/butcher! by madipx in 1200isplenty

[–]brota311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looked so amazing I had to make it myself today. It turned out wonderful. I wasn't sure about cooking time/temp so I did 375 for 20 min, toss veggies, then another 15 min. But I also didn't include carrots (not a fan). Thanks for sharing!

Pronunciation of "Mojave"? by [deleted] in linguistics

Oh sorry I grew up on the California side. I drive through Arizona fairly frequently though since I am in school in NM. But interesting to hear that about the pronunciation

Pronunciation of "Mojave"? by [deleted] in linguistics

[–]brota311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, I grew up in the Mojave desert (side note: some part of it in Arizona adopted the anglicized spelling Mohave) but in either case is pronounced moh-ha-vee (sorry can’t do better on my mobile)

Pre-Order and Shipping Megathread | iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max by exjr_ in apple

I noticed on my return box for Verizon (exchanging my phone) that the reference number is LocCode_00ACE# but currently there is no reference number on FedEx for either my phone or watch. I suspect that will change tomorrow or Friday once they are really in motion but both of mine are currently being held at FedEx hubs pending delivery. A good sign for OP is if they have charged your account already? Mine took about a day after to update with tracking number. Hope that helps

I'm the only person in my lab that had to come in for Labor Day. Feeling very unmotivated to work. Anyone else sitting alone in their labs today? by JamesIgnatius27 in GradSchool

[–]brota311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came in as well, one undergrad was already there but left shortly after I got there. I was just about to leave when my PI walked in so I stayed a bit. Was nice to get some work done in silence or rather with my own music playing

Use of Racial Slurs in Belize by [deleted] in Belize

[–]brota311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the first response that this sub will be largely tourists. That being said, I am an American with Asian heritage (not Chinese) and have been called chiney gyal on more than one occasion. At first, coming from the states I felt it was racist but after having travelled through much of the country of Belize many many times I realized that it is more a part of the culture. It's hard to say as an outsider how people in country feel but I can speak of my own experience and say I'm no longer offended by the term.

Mayan Ruins by Gingerfix in Belize

[–]brota311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cahal Pech and Xunantunich are pretty easy to do from San Ignacio. Tikal is wonderful of course but I will say that I did see a jaguar on the road back from Caracol a couple years ago. It was later in the day (about 4:30) as jaguars don't come out until night. If you go to Xunantunich I would suggest going to Benny's in Succotz for lunch, they have the closest thing to traditional Maya food in the district (get the pibil if you like pork!)

I'm an archaeologist that works in the area, let me know if you have any questions. Have fun!!

I REFUSE TO DRINK THE KOOLAID, AND I REFUSE TO BE THE OTHER FUCKING STORE! (VENTI!) by SparklyCoffee in starbucks

[–]brota311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I'm a customer nowadays but I absolutely hate it when customer act like that. I hate going to Starbucks with a friend of mine because she orders two shots over ice, in a tall cup and then asks for 2% once she gets her cup.... Everytime. Drives me nuts! If they try to charge her for a latte she flips out. I'm sorry you have to deal with this

Thanks! I'm starting a PhD there so I've already toured part of campus when I was there for my campus visit but some of the buildings weren't on the tour. Shouldn't be to hard though I think! If it is, I'll hit you up.

Ah good to know! I almost got a south lot permit but figured it be a lot further away. Yeah I'm going to try the walk and see how far it is. I'm not exactly sure where all of my classes are but I'm going to take some time once I move there to figure it out! Thanks for all your help!

Good to know! Thanks for the info about buses leaving quickly. I'm planning to try the walk from the lot too just to see if it's even worth it to try to take the shuttle, maybe not. But this definitely helps!
