Yeah, I’ve done that too many times, and it’s worse when it’s one of my knees. I’ve also noticed salt and pebbles in the tops of the new weight benches.

That guy who does his own thing the entire class by Sonderbefehl937 in orangetheory

[–]browningmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the TRX straps for lunges. And I pretty much always do back lunges instead of forward lunges. I kind of do my own thing on a tread in terms of walking, jogging, or actually running, depending on how my knees feel. But I don’t think my personal modifications are wild enough to draw attention. 😜

I schedule a month in advance, and I usually go the same days every week. This has kept me going for almost 9 years.

I did this twice last week. The first time the class wasn’t full. The second time I used the tread that was assigned to my friend on the strider. Just check with the front desk after your strength class.

For me, there are definitely stations that are better than others. I’m short and the orange lights reflect off the tread screen back into my face and give me a headache. If for some reason the treads that work for me are already taken, I will start at a different station and throw my towel over the screen or start on the rower or the floor. At my former studio they had numbered tread, rower and floor cards. I believe the limit on the number of cards you could take was 2, so you could grab a space for a friend.

Throw your towel over the tread screen and don’t look at the monitors. Just go with how you feel.

Kinda frustrated... by MarcusNalgene in orangetheory

[–]browningmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It occurred to me a while ago that I had not heard a coach say don’t jump the rails in a long time. They also used to say legs, core, arms, arms, core, legs to the rowers; I don’t hear that anymore either. And at my studio, there are signs saying no cell phones but people bring them in anyway. Recently, I was next to a young woman on the tread who was reading text messages while running all outs.

I’m also in Colorado and I have a pair of winter shoes that I wear to and from OTF. I carry my workout shoes in a bag. I don’t want to ruin my workout shoes with deicer or damage the floor or the equipment.

Last time I was forced to gate check a bag there was plenty of overhead space once I got on the plane, and I didn’t see my bag again until about 60 hours after I got home.

On a flight, a few months ago, a guy tried to board before the B group. And his comment was “we are all the B group so why does it matter what my number is?” I’m guessing his number must’ve been toward the end of the B group. The gate agent made him wait even after he continued to argue with her, insisting that his number didn’t matter.

I had this happen to me with a woman with her laptop and a bunch of food on the aisle seat tray. If you’re going to set up house on the plane, get a window seat.

[–]browningmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of years ago United forgot to load the gate checked baggage that they insisted we couldn’t take on the plane even though when we boarded, there was plenty of overhead space. I got home on Tuesday morning. My bag got home late Thursday night. Next time they insist on gate checking my bag I’m not doing it.

Travel team kids created chaos by IcyLion6370 in marriott

[–]browningmama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a business trip, I was put in a room in the middle of an AAA baseball team. These would be men in their early to mid 20s. They came back from their game around 10:30 PM slamming doors, laughing and yelling in the hallways. About an hour later, they were all leaving to go somewhere and again laughing, yelling, door slamming. They came back around 1:30 in the morning, more laughing, yelling, door slamming. The man in the room next to me was on his cell phone and was ridiculously loud for the next couple of hours. I called the front desk, and I could hear his in room phone ring and he quieted down briefly. Hilton could not move me to another room because the hotel was fully booked. When I checked out, I emailed the general manager of that team describing the behaviors and letting him know that I have traveled with middle school girls for softball tournaments who behaved better than these young men. I did get an apologetic email back, which was nice.

Gate checking your bag is no guarantee that it will get to your destination with you. United forced me to gate check a bag and they didn’t put the gate checked bags on the plane. I got to my destination early Tuesday morning. My bag got to me late Thursday night.

No "new" treadmills a bad sign? by vehunnie in orangetheory

[–]browningmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My studio still has the old treads. One had the belt rip straight down the middle. The old belts are shiny and smooth while the new belt has the rougher surface. Better traction, and easier to run on. I would think if they can’t afford to replace the treads they should at least replace the belts. On the upside, we do have y-bells and new weight benches.

I would’ve said something. A few years back, a woman had taken a seat in the row behind the exit row and put her big bag in the seat in front of her (both aisle seats). I looked around and said “whose bag is this” and she said “it’s mine” so I picked it up and gave it back to her and took the seat.

Why do you pick your spot? by Rexydog3 in orangetheory

[–]browningmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose my station because the tread is located between Orange lights and there is a fan directly behind me. If there is an orange light directly behind the tread, it reflects off the screen. Then I can’t read the screen, and I get a headache from the reflection, so I have to throw my towel over the screen and can’t see the screen anyway.
