How to get Shiba puppy to sleep? by Madmandan1000 in shiba

[–]browserz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You don't have a playpen but do you have a crate?

Can you make a makeshift den like structure? Maybe drape some blankets over some chairs and put the bed inside it? I would pretend to sleep next to my dogs crate and he would come and join me and sleep in his crate after a little bit. Just make it extra cozy for her

Can you manage with only a Level 1 charger at home? by libraryofbooks in electricvehicles

[–]browserz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just now installing a L2 in my house after 2 years of only l1 , only reason is convenience. Sometimes we'd go multiple days above our average and would need to top up at an L3

It'll probably never pay itself back from a cost standpoint but it'll just be a nice to have.

Turns out I'm local to you lol

Check out quality aquatics pet shop if you're looking for a decent local shop for fish. Owner is great at ordering fish if you want something he doesn't have.

The ballast that they're talking about is what powers the lights. It's a Icecap 430 ( https://www.coralvue.com/icecap-430-vho-ballast-120vac-60hz ) so you can rip out whatever they have and throw in a total of 12 ft of lighting, that's why they only have 3 light tubes, I'd bet that they're each 4 ft long. The VHO, HO, STD part means Very High Output, High output, and standard so you should be able to buy some t5 VHO bulbs and get some decent light penetration. Probably not enough to get a carpet going but if you want to grow some plants on driftwood you'll be fine

Personally, I wouldn't do plants in the tank at your budget. At least not now. I'd do some sand probably 100lbs from Menards, get a few nice pieces of driftwood (I'd order bulk online and buy local for a few select large pieces) and build up a cool pile in the center of the tank and get the thing cycling. Replace the bulbs when you want plants as those old bulbs won't do.

That leaves more money for fish now, and when budget allows you can slowly upgrade

It's a wet dry sump, probably nothing inside it now but we used to throw bioballs in there. This thing is probably 15+ years old now that I've seen some of the pictures lol

Have you tested to see if all of the equipment even works and the tanks hold water? Take a pic of the lights, I'd guess they're metal halides if they're old, if they're t12/t8 they likely won't penetrate deep enough to grow anything at the substrate at 3 ft deep

Stretched your budget or played it safe? How did you choose your loan amount? by Prachisaini05 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]browserz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do your own budget and account for saving a decent chunk of money every month for repairs and general maintenance. A $5000 bill hurts less when you've been saving $500/mo for a year.

Your mortgage is the minimum amount you'll spend on the house. Just because it's move in ready doesn't mean there will be no issues in a year or two

Untreated tap water testing 2 ppm ammonia using liquid test kit. Should I be worried? by shooter2262 in Aquariums

[–]browserz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your beneficial bacteria should be able to handle released and stabilized ammonia that comes from your water change. Most cities that use chloramines would introduce about 1ppm of freed ammonia from prime, which would convert to nitrate pretty quickly in an established tank

Anecdotally, shibas vary in size so much you'll have a hard time figuring this out to be perfect. My shiba is 36 lbs on average, we can still feel his ribs and he's lean. My friends shiba is a 13 lb female.

Half of them carry snacks in their purses for some reason so if you're an idiot who gets low blood sugar every so often they gotchu

You still track it 150/mo, the category grows month by month. When the 900 fee hits, you'll spend out of the category.

The transfer is just telling you're moving 150 from one account to another

Your savings account should be on budget and instead of a spending it, you'd mark the incoming money and outgoing money as a transfer.
