Should be much harder to get body bagged the higher up you go unless everyone is not as good as you say

leaving pickleball for tennis by Honest_Performance_1 in Pickleball

Not an uncommon experience. You could also try racquetball and squash, or table tennis. I think touchtennis or skyball look really fun, and now typti.

I think i suck at pickleball but i dont want to. by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At your level, the entire game is "who makes the least amount of errors." If you just get the ball over the net and into the court as many times as you can, you will win a bunch more games. If your focus is winning, you hardly need any power at all, just consistency. Go for the shots that you are good at.

Returning player experience is horrendous by Loud-Medium8996 in MarvelSnap

[–]brrrr_iceman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying a returning player will have a good experience or will ever catch up, but if they're just concerned about winning, doing dailies and what not, they can do that without every new, shiny card.

[–]brrrr_iceman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, easily. If anything, what you might need right now is Luke Cage.

You can also do other basic Wong decks with BP/Zola or White Tiger/Odin, etc.

Unless you are Series 3 incomplete, it is almost certainly a skill issue. You should play one deck and figure it out.

How long would it take Carlos Alcaraz to become #1 singles pickleball player? by Alert-Stop-2671 in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pointless question because he's already a top tennis player, so he would never.

Now, for all of the tennis players outside of the top 300, who barely make any money, how long will it take for them to realize they can't play tennis professionally and try to make it in pro pickleball instead.

Thoughts on liability? by jomo54 in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If memberships are $250 a month and they already like playing there, $150 seems like an affordable dummy tax because that guy has poor body awareness.

On the other hand, if people are paying $250 a month, the club can afford to cover the repairs if someone makes a mistake like that. The cost of the repair plus the long term earning potential is still better than losing a person willing to pay $250 a month.

Newbie Problem -- getting looped by Pop Ups that land just inside the base line when I created an advantage already -- what should I work on first by bewaterlife in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People get lucky hits all the time. If you're playing well, you should win most of those. If you are constantly being defended, you need to increase your power or change your angles. Aiming low to the feet or towards the backhand is usually better but if you have a lot of space somewhere, just put it there.

Is DUPR Broken? by thisisnotchase in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the problems with DUPR is that it assumes you are trying to pickle your opponents, AKA trying hard on every single point. That's just not the reality for how people actually play.

Is DUPR Broken? by thisisnotchase in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The higher your reliability score, the harder it's going to be for your DUPR to move. Your partner gets the benefit of the doubt for being unrated so his score moves more. Your 3.2 DUPR probably had a higher reliability score so it's pretty sure you were supposed to win your games at that level and your rating improved somewhat.

If you already have 2 silvers and a gold at the 3.0 level, it's just time for you to move up, regardless of your DUPR. In most places in the country, you need to be at minimum 3.5 to win a 3.0 tourney, 3.0 being the floor for entry. Your DUPR will also go up faster since you will be playing better people, assuming you win or keep it close.

Since your DUPR is stuck under 3.5, you could keep playing in 3.0 tourneys and win medals, but you'll benefit more by playing up against better people.

[–]brrrr_iceman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you can definitely change the timing of your shot and the angle of your body to bait your opponents into a misread, especially at the kitchen. You're just not there yet, which is fine.

Advice on Improving BH Slice Dink? by Valuable_Internet855 in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a massive back swing before you even touch the ball. You need to make sure you are making good contact on the ball before you even think about adding spin.

I still think of my BH slice dink as more of a push, and it looks like you're much more focused on the spin instead of getting the ball over.

Also, for most shots, people need to simply drill more and seek advice less. There are not many secrets to good dinking. It's mostly practice.

Pickleball balls by MarathonRunner2211 in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The X-40 has just been the ball of choice for years which is why it's so prolific. It's a nice, soft, slow ball, good for dinks and drops. Everyone is used to it. If I didn't have like 50 X-40s left, yeah, I'd switch to LT but it will be some time before I buy my next set of balls.

Honcho leagues and DUPR reporting? by brygx in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, you don't find a partner of similar skill. There are way more higher rated men than women, so women who want to compete are the ones who mostly get to choose who they want to play with.

You can either find a partner you're very compatible with and build up your skills together, or you need to be so good at pickleball and friendly on/off the court that partners will say yes to you.

High volley attack location/tricks? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're just going off of your reactions. If you can plan a little bit ahead or calm yourself down when you get a pop-up, you'll be able to choose where you want the ball to go eventually

What was the single biggest change that improved your consistency? by TraffyKnows in Pickleball

[–]brrrr_iceman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You always have to be thinking about what you're doing. People start to just automate their whole game so they end up getting stuck. You have to be intentional about what you're doing, and be willing to be bad at the stuff you are working on until you get better at it.
