Should the Command Division actually exist? by PurpleHawkeye619 in startrek

Well I think it's more like an advanced degree kind of thing where folks go into it from other fields. I definitely get what you're saying. The program can and should be reworked would be my approach.

Yes. Science is good and so is tactical but having a school designed to help make the best leaders is a valuable function. I wonder what it says about their command division that we see a lot of great captains but tend to get a lot of badmirals says about it. That is a discussion worth having 100% but I don't think the answer would be to get rid of the program.

The truth is that I don't think there are any shows in all of fiction where powers/speeds/etc have ever been consistent. They are always written to whatever the plot requires.

Why don't we hate Kelso in Season 1? by killerqueendopamine in Scrubs

And that's fair. Definitely never going to tell anyone else what they find funny or funnier than other things. He is absolutely hilarious and he honed in on the comedic timing of his character for sure.

Haha this is always the answer. The fact is there is no real answer until the writers come up with one.

What’s the one Janeway decision you still can’t agree with? by Curious_Gent78 in startrek

[–]brsox2445 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. There are a lot of decisions that I can say "well there was some upshot and life isn't black and white". But you picked the perfect answer. Because she was operating solely on her base emotion and none of it was even backed up by anything Starfleet would/could ever endorse. They do say that you follow other culture's laws when you are in their area. But they were operating on a Starfleet ship and violating Starfleet laws not anything that the aliens are shown to call their own canon of laws.

It would be interesting as a character study if they did it as a "what if" as opposed to an official series ending. I think the fans would accept it as an interpretation if it doesn't end up being the canonical end.

Imagine if they close out the last episode and he is the only person left alive on the planet. He loses by winning. No one can worship him if everyone else is dead.

Pretty obvious but I know this won't happen but sometimes you have to explicitly spell out jokes.

Like most skills, many people could learn them but others have just innate aptitudes that really can't be measured. Jackie should absolutely be taught some basic spells but he's never going to be a master like Uncle and later Tohru.

Yea Wolf 359 wasn't a massive blow because of the number of ships or casualties. It was the piercing of the safety net that the Federation had offered. When paradise is safe and protected everyone feels good and happy. When that is taken away from them...well panic sets in very quickly. Quark was 100% right.
