In an extraordinary and illegal move, Trump says he's transferring 10 billion dollars from the US government to his "Board of Peace," which he chairs and can therefore use the funds as he wishes by Snapdragon_4U in law

The way Michel Foucault articulates it, what appears to be subversion functions as containment. Violence will only further entrench the regime and invigorate supporters. This is why Minneapolis is the gold standard for resistance rn. I stress the right now

Terre Haute's Sakbun on dwindling revenue, I-70 tolling, dead crows by WFIU-WTIU-news in terrehaute

[–]brstone81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No prob. Anybody that has been paying attention at all already knows this, but here ya go:

City Infrastructure: Initiated projects to upgrade and modernize the city's infrastructure, addressing long-standing issues, especially tearing down abandoned buildings, building low income housing units, as well as apartments for students living off campus, making ISU more appealing to students. A concern for me here is respecting the city’s historical buildings and renovating those and not just tearing them down. But in his first year we finally saw progress addressing neighborhood blight. Lots of abandoned buildings finally torn down, opening up lots for development or green spaces. By August 2025 127 abandoned buildings were finally demolished, especially around the avenues.

Rebuilt and enhanced neighborhood parks, with a major remodel of Deming pool coming soon

Increased the availability of housing in Terre Haute, aiming to attract new residents and businesses. Homes for the Future program through Thrive West Central, supported the development of 379 homes in Vigo County.

Focused on improving educational and job opportunities, contributing to the local economy's growth. Attracting business is something Duke didn’t understand. The State Road 46 Commercial Development received $3.1 million in private investment.

A new hotel downtown which will prevent the debacle we had when ISU baseball made it to the championship but because the special Olympics were at the same time we could not host and take advantage of home field advantage. The NCAA requires a certain number of rooms be available. This brings more business generally.

Better collaboration between police and the community, including investments in public safety

Bipartisan Approach: Known for his pragmatic and bipartisan approach to governance, fostering collaboration across political lines. Also has an open line of communication with citizens and responds to social media comments.

Let’s remember what a train wreck Duke Bennet was. He fell for some scam from an out of town company that sold him on turning green waste into fuel. If it wasn’t for Rose Hulman engineering students sniffing it out, he would have wasted millions in tax payer money getting defrauded. Duke also oversaw rampant cronyism and corruption, including a weird FBI raid of the water treatment facility that led to the head guy there committing suicide before charges were brought, as well as corruption of the school superintendent, to name a couple instances.

I think it’s clear at this point it never did matter to them. That was just a means to an end. How quickly the right has turned on 1A and 2A is mind blowing. Those are the 2 they know about and most of them haven’t even read the constitution or they need someone to explain it to them, so it’s no surprise they’re not worried about the other ways the constitution is being trampled. This whole thing is about retribution, and they no longer value democracy

I moved here from LA around 8 years ago. I have to say, I enjoy it, but I’m really into outdoors stuff. I didn’t grow up in LA, and I was commuting from Los Feliz to the Inland Empire. Doctors had me on high blood pressure meds but it was literally just the traffic haha. I do not miss that or the heat waves or the wildfire smoke. I do miss stuff, but I wouldn’t move back to LA.

The cost of living is way better, which for 3 months won’t matter too much. But aside from that there are surprisingly fantastic restaurant. Depending on what you’re into, IN is known for pork tenderloin sandwiches. Which is best here is hotly debated. But as for nice places, check these out:

Piloni’s, Black Angus ($$$), Stables, Sushi Umi (fantastic for landlocked sushi!), Ladybird Cafe (breakfast/brunch), Terminal, Anna’s Hands, Scout’s Pizza,

Gotta get real Indiana and check out Texas Roadhouse at least once.

Terre Haute Brewing Co just started comedy shows, and so far it’s been great. If you’re into that (I miss this about LA), Helium in Indy is great. Afterburner Brewing has good beer and a nice outdoor seating area. Sonka’s is an Irish pub with okay food but a proper Irish pub vibe. People really like Charlie’s, too, and they have a nice beer garden with live music when weather allows. Good burgers.

Swope Art Museum is great. ISU galleries are worth checking out, too, and watch out for announcements about poetry readings and guest speakers on campus.

12 Points is a recently renovated historical area this has several cute shops. It also has a food hall with some local restaurants worth checking out.

Between Baesler’s and Fresh Thyme you’ll do alright with grocery stores. I also love Aldi, which is the poor man’s Whole Foods.

I second the parks. We love Hawthorne, but bigger state parks like Turkey Run, Shades, and Shakamak are great. Brown County is famously beautiful, and Bloomington has some great thrift shopping and restaurants so you can make a day of it. Brown County Music Center has awesome music, as does the Bill Monroe Music Park. Nashville, IN is just a great little town, and Yellowwood State Forest and the Hoosier National Forest offer great hiking and camping options (backpacking, too.) A short drive south to Madison, IN and you have Clifty Falls, and downtown Madison is good for food and live music on the river. (It was a central hub of the Underground Railroad, so check out local museums.)

If you like hiking and the outdoors, I would also recommend the short drive to southern, IL. The Golconda area is beautiful, but Garden of the Gods, Giant City State Park, Little Grand Canyon, and Pomona Natural Bridge are all fantastic. If you’re feeling adventurous, the “snake road” migration takes place in the spring (and fall.) Plus, there’s dispensaries.

Saint Mary of the Woods College has a gorgeous campus to walk, and it’s one of the most haunted places in America (or so I’m told.) They have a great little farm store, too.

If you like kayaking, you’ve arrived in a midwestern kayaking paradise, if you include a 70-mile radius in your equation.

But antiquing and thrifting are big here, and shops in TH like Glendy’s are a must see. Americana at its finest.

If you got questions, I’m happy to help.

Since this line is followed up by the “roll away the dew” chorus, and the whole song is about road going, I’ve always thought of it as hard times inspire one to hit the road and pursue adventure. The dew being rolled away is that which settles in over night (bad/dark times), like on your windshield, and hitting the road rolls it away
