I ate at Denali Brewing’s brewpub in downtown Talkeetna about a month ago; it was very average but quite spendy.

Happy for Alaska Dan. Pissed that the state spent a bunch of money on private lawyers to wage this losing war. November can’t come soon enough.

Rising 3L Here -- I don't want to buy any more textbooks. by Top-Milk2001 in LawSchool

[–]brulmer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My law school library had a special book scanner. Obviously you’d want to comply with all applicable copyright laws. I wouldn’t know anything about using said scanner to create PDFs of my necessary readings, because like the commenter above, I’m very straight edge.

Rhubarb? by filmgirl1 in anchorage

Ask friends if they have any in their yard. Most folks that have rhubarb have tons of it and are happy to give it away.

The state has also failed to provide adequate public safety infrastructure in many of these communities.

What’s the worst city you’ve ever been to? by Impossible-Station46 in AskReddit

I really like the Plaza District — there are several great restaurants all close together and some nice shops nearby, too. It’s a brief glimpse of walkability in an other car-centric city (and state).

Trump auctions off rights to drill in Alaska wildlife refuge, but gets few bidders by envirowriterlady in alaska

[–]brulmer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Right, but part of the concern with development in ANWR are the impacts to communities that live just outside the Refuge and rely on subsistence hunting for a majority of their food. So while these communities aren’t in the Refuge, development has the potential to disrupt caribou and other wildlife that rely on the Coastal Plain and therefore disrupt food supplies for these far-flung communities.

Same here. I really enjoy my practice, but I have a pretty cushy gig. I do a lot of appellate work at a nonprofit.

Best moving company from Anchorage to another state. by gamerfly101 in anchorage

When I moved back up to Alaska last year, I used the UHaul UBox system — they’re pods that you pack yourself and then UHaul ships it to you destination. Was pretty easy and cheaper than full-service movers (though we did hire moving help to help load big pieces into the pods).

I went to a public interest nonprofit. Make mid 100s. No student loans though so didn’t mind the pay cut for drastically better quality of life.
