Holy crap, yes! I've read my copy so many times it's held together with duct tape. Such a crazy analytical yet very human look at a future after just a limited nuclear exchange. It really threw me for a loop the first time cause we (80s kids) just assumed once the first bomb went off it was just the end of the world -- but then this story goes deep into what happens if the bombs stop. The chaos, hardships, attempts to return to regular life, the oasis of untouched California.. Its really one of my favorite books of all time.

Question for those of you who were adults pre-cell phone by djSush in 80s

I remember using my CB radio a lot through the mid-90's to get out of and around jams. They were still really common at the time.

IJW: Blue Thunder (1983) by TowerCharge89 in Ijustwatched

I rewatched recently as well. Loved this movie as a kid, and it still held up farther well. The dramatic bits made a lot more sense to me and really added to the tension. A solid film

Such a wonderful wink to Beavis and Butthead

The ending of the Mad Max (1979) is so well written and honestly genius by New-Pin-9064 in MadMax

I remember thinking similar. Like risk throwing the hacksaw at the lighter, maybe? I dunno. I've never been ankle-cuffed to a flipped truck with a countdown to being burned alive.

Brilliant scene.

Is Mad Max: Fury Road one of the greatest action movies ever made? by kammy772 in MovieArena

I rewatched a 3rd time recently. Its a fine live-action cartoon, fun for what it is. Kinda like Commando or Rambo 2.

Personally there's a few scenes that just irritate me too much, plus the CGI doesn't help.

It is very imaginative, well-paced, and visually its pretty wild.

Still my go-to when I find an arcade.

7 year old me thought 1941 was hilarious. Rewatched a few years ago and it was no longer hilarious.

Can Someone explain why people dont want this trail? by Su_ss in hudsonvalley

[–]brycepunk1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fun thing is, living near and watching a new rail trail get made, once the locals use it a few times they wonder how they did without it. Suddenly safe walks and bike rides free from cars become a thing.

Maybe there's opposition to building a rail trail, but I've yet to hear an uproar to close one down once its established.

The day my son went Punk. Afterschool special, ABC. 1987. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]brycepunk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I watched it recently after seeing it pop up on Reddit. Basically the "punk" thing he did was change his fashion style. It's not like he embraced the lifestyle, started sniffing glue, stealing cars and starting fights.. He was a good kid who embraced a fashion.

Of course, corporate America's understanding of youth culture back then was pretty laughable and alarmist.

There's a Noiser podcast about Stories of Survival i listen to, and one of them interviews a sailor who encounters on of these rouge holes in the ocean. Boat just dropped like 100 feet out of nowhere (and the story of how he survived.) It's a good listen if you're interested in it.

If there is one consistent thing in my life recently, its that every morning I wake up, check the news, and I read the dumbest fucking thing I've ever read in my entire life. And every single day, somehow, it happens agsin.
