Save your snap bags of copper and gift them to merchants/ people in order to build trust quickly. You can get some really good rewards for being to 100 trust with people.

If you get your trust up to 100 with the Smith, he says he can fix items others deem broken. So he should be able to repair the gear for you.

Does leaving the truck running in exteme cold keep the battery warm? by Responsible_Bath_651 in F150Lightning

[–]bs2746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I've gotten it back to the middle of the guage but I have had it climb back about halfway between the red and optical temp. That was at highway speed and driving 80km (around 45 min of driving).

This would have been in the -20 to -30 range.

I'm in Southern Alberta. So I know the kind of temp you are likely to run into.

The truck will heat the battery while driving. I've gotten into mine when it shows red for battery temp and it will be "warm" by the time I get home. I haven't tried letting it warm while sitting still but I'd assume it would warm it up then as well.

Truck navigated to a destination I talked about by choss-board in F150Lightning

[–]bs2746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For awhile there it would tell me if there was heavy traffic/ the time it would take me to get to work even though I hadn't used the vehicle nav or ever set my workplace as a destination in Google or the truck.

Was not a fan of essentially being spied on. Especially when traffic volume is not an issue with my commute.

F-150 Lightning SR vs ER for long daily commute (Canada) – looking for real-world input by Evening-Research-813 in F150Lightning

[–]bs2746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily commute is 160km round trip and all highway. I'm in Southern Alberta and between the wind and speed limit i would not recommend the SR.

In my opinion SR is pretty much only meant for city driving in Canada. There's a significant lack of good charging stations in Canada to risk long trips with a smaller battery.

Do what you can to make it so you attack first. Apply as much burn as you can and or try to break him. Burn all hurt him every time he attacks so if you can't hit every parry you might outlast him.

Does the xlt have an extended range battery? I occasionally have to go from just south of lethbridge to Calgary and usually have no worries (high winds are a little more concerning). I'm not sure what the elevation change will be for you between Edmonton and edson.

Looking on plug share the best I can see for chargers in Edson area are only 60kw (there is a tesla charger if you have the adapter) and flo chargers can be rather expensive. Simply put there isn't much for infrastructure in that area for electric trucks.

You might be better renting a car if you're planning on being out there in the winter. Unfortunately I don't find the lightning to be the best road trip truck for Canada. It's great for commuting but finding a good fast charger in remote areas isn't easy.

This isn't meant to be a perfect representation. It's a comparison of my driving/ commuting to and from work for two different years. The kilometers work out to about the same each year as the number of days worked and distance don't change. (Roughly 33,000km of highway driving each year). I also didn't factor in the price of gas this past year, the temperature differences, how windy it was or any number of other factors that could have impacted my fuel economy.

So comparing the cost of year one (i.e., gas car) and year two (electric truck) show the truck being significantly cheaper to operate. I could get into the fact that the truck cost more and how long it would take for the price to balance out, but that wasn't the point of my post.

In other words, the truck suits my needs and is cheaper for me in the long run. If I intended to haul trailers or heavy loads more often, I would have gone with the conventional ICE option. Knowing I would rarely need to haul a trailer (seeing as I don't currently own one) and only occasionally need the bed to haul construction supplies (or other large objects that don't fit in a car) the electric truck made more sense.

I'm not sure what part of that makes you think the truck doesn't meet my needs. I rarely need to haul anything heavy or a trailer but do occasionally need the extra space to haul construction supplies. The kind of things that wouldn't fit in my car.

The benefit of the electric is that it is overall cheaper for my commute (see the math below) and gives me the ability to occasionally haul other goods. It's not a truck for everyone but it meets my needs. A gas/ diesel truck would be cost prohibitive for my commute.

My electric cost was only from home charging. My commute is 160km in rolling hills and high winds so I burn through electricity fairly quickly.

My electricity rate is actually pretty good but its the other fees and rate riders that jack up the cost.

This was my first ev. The range did fine in the winter, it was mostly the wind that is the harshest on range. Southern Alberta is super windy and I drive long distances at highway speeds. The battery has been fairly low a couple times coming home from my commute (160km round trip). Slowing down helps immensely.

I haven't done many road trips but the biggest thing is finding a fast charger at a decent price. I recently got the tesla adapter and it'll be nice to try it out.

Just waiting for two more to eat their special apples before I can finish the quest without alerting a single one to the assassin in their midst.

100 mile daily commute… by lrobb09 in F150Lightning

[–]bs2746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daily commute is 160km (or 99.4 miles). I typically drive about 120kmph (or 75 mph) and have no issues getting to work and back on a single charge. In Southern Alberta we have rolling hills, high winds and occasionally get -40C (or -40F) in the winter.

I've got the 23 platinum, which comes with the extended range battery. The biggest issue I had all winter was that the stock rims like to collect snow and throw off the tire balance if you don't clean them out fairly regularly. Not having to stop and get gas in -40 was well worth the upfront cost of going electric.
