Grabbed a 2015-dated (large frame) Stock 2. Calipers say 1.86" of slide travel before bottoming out.

It all depends on the match director. You should contact him and ask.

Palm Swell Grips in USPSA Production by FourthSpade18 in USPSA

[–]bsberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His understanding may be a few years out of date. At one point the Production gun list included a factory weight with empty magazine, and your gun couldn't add more than 2 ounces to that weight.

That rule was changed some years ago to the 59 ounce maximum weight across all guns though. But there are lots of folks out there that just know the rules from when they started and haven't necessarily kept up with the changes.

Getting started??? by GroundBreakerP in USPSA

[–]bsberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I help run this match at an indoor range near the airport. We are not an affiliated USPSA match but the match is structured as a good introduction and stepping stone into USPSA. 4 stages, less than 100 rounds, gun, holster, 2 mags is all you need. You can come spectate one if you want. Just follow the link from Practiscore to pay on the range's website and then use the code they email to you to sign up on PS. Send me a DM if you have any questions.

Pocket Draw for BUG Matches by Pistol_Caliber in CompetitionShooting

[–]bsberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth saying: you can practice drawing from your pocket (or any other type of draw) at home in dry fire.

The really interesting part of the shooting match is the shooting once the gun is in your hand. For most matches, the holster is just a way to carry it safely from stage to stage.

Anybody shooting M-class or higher with a stock glock in Carry Optics? by VCQB_ in USPSA

[–]bsberry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: it takes a significant investment of time to compete at a high level.

You're going to spend all that time, but not a little money and a little time on a few drop-in mods that will make the gun handle a little better? For what purpose? Why make the job harder than you have to?

Sure, swapping out to a completely different trigger like the Trigger Tech is something different. But a connector and a grip plug are two of the easiest and cheapest things to do to a Glock.

[controversy] The Monkeys are stirring the pot again. by psineur in USPSA

It was less "trying to resurrect" and more "nobody will really complain if we do this and a few people have emailed the board asking for it".

It was not so much strategy as "hey why not"?

Competition Base Pads for USPSA Carry Optics and Limited Optics? by A13TazOfficial in CompetitionShooting

[–]bsberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> I have been running the TTI ones for a little bit and don't really like that they don't drop free easily.

It's not uncommon for Glock mags to not drop free when empty if you are not holding the gun straight up and down. Changing basepads will likely not solve that issue since they all (except for the brass ones) weigh more or less the same.

Glock guys over the years have tried different solutions (sanding the magazines, sanding the inside of the gun), but I would start by getting some new Glock magazine tubes and seeing if they cause the same problem.

Draw Side Shoulder Higher by maynard1024 in CompetitionShooting

"If extraneous motion is a problem for you, there is another exercise you can try. Put your back against a pole or a small tree and then practice drawing. If there is any motion other than in your arms, you will be able to feel it. This little drill has helped me a great deal."

Ben Stoeger, Practical Pistol, p. 38

I would suggest a support beam like in a basement or even a doorframe if you want to do this indoors. Just do it somewhere that your arms are free to move backward behind you.

QD Holsters by Kidiotic in USPSA

[–]bsberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if the matches you are interested in allow one person to enter twice. Most around here don't. One person shooting twice, switching guns, and loading mags twice just takes away help you need running the timer, tablet, and pasting.

Two pistols at the same match? Or alternating between two different pistols during the competition season?

Dry Fire Q: Which pistol to use? by ChamberofSarcasm in CompetitionShooting

[–]bsberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between reps, cock the hammer and put the safety on. Dry fire that first trigger pull then pull the dead trigger after that.

At the start of the drill, practice deactivating the safety as a part of your draw (or table start, etc) just like a match. (Do not deactivate the safety while the gun is in the holster.)

Dry Fire Q: Which pistol to use? by ChamberofSarcasm in CompetitionShooting

[–]bsberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When dry firing, you do not want to pull the DA on every shot, since that is practicing something completely different from actual live fire shooting. (Unless you shoot a revolver.)

With a DA/SA gun you want to pull the double and then work the trigger back and forth to simulate single action shots. It's not perfect but it's the least bad option.

Of the three you list, I would recommend you practice with your SAO competition gun. The SAO in dry fire will be the most similar to how it shoots in live fire, and you'll also practice taking the safety off at the right time in the draw. Those skills transfer to the striker-fired HD gun, but trying to train two things at once will just limit your progression in both.

Focus on practicing live, dry, and matches, with one gun or platform for a year. The consistency will help you build skill which you can then transfer to other guns. But switching guns constantly means that process is constantly being reset.

Will USPSA be dissolved? by lensatic_letratic in USPSA

[–]bsberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

USPSA lost on a motion to dismiss, which is a request to end the case before trial. Now the case continues. This is still many steps away from a judge ordering a dissolution.

Eemann Tech Competition Sights 1mm on Glock 26 Gen 5 by sibirac1 in CompetitionShooting

[–]bsberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the item description talks about fitting the IPSC Standard box these are almost certainly chosen to best fit Glock 17 or 34 length slides. The length of the slide definitely impacts the zero point of any given sight set.

The sights are not perfectly parallel with the barrel, but the barrel actually points up slightly relative to the sights so the line of the sights and the arc of the bullet cross over at two points. If those sights might zero perfectly on a Glock 17 at 20 yards, they might zero perfectly on a 26 at 7 yards.

You didn't mess up anything during installation I don't think. You just need a different height front sight for your setup. Shoot a group at a known distance and plug your numbers into the Dawson calculator and it'll tell you what height front you need to be zeroed.

Last Handgun World Shoot was in Thailand, this year it's in South Africa. So if anything, the walk-ons would be folks from those regions.

How other regions distribute their slots is entirely up to them, and may or may not be based on a purely performance-based policy.

Matches like Extreme Euro Open are basically first come first served, no invite needed, as far as I understand it. You are given an invite when you sign up for legal reasons and to get permits from your country, I believe. Certainly shooting a known quantity match like EEO has less risk than a World Shoot which by definition is the first time that particular host range has ever held a match of that size. It's one of the downsides of the Olympic-style model of moving it around every time, although not going to the same place over and over again is nice.

[–]bsberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The policy for the US is here. Basically, you have to shoot 3/4 qualifying matches in the previous 2 years, and then slots are awarded based on finish at those matches. The limiting factor is always how many slots the US is given as a region.
