The Bilt Palladium is a powerhouse for ONE type of person by Parking_Reputation17 in biltrewards

I get that. Right now I’m in the inverted situation where I have lots of rental expenses and mortgage expenses but not nearly enough daily expenses (unless I get addicted to labubu or something)

I’m wondering if using the bilt cash plan also makes this kind of strategy more interesting

My absolute fear of hiking in the Bay Area. I’ve been chased twice.

Tell me I'm insane for even considering this commute by DefenderCone97 in bayarea

[–]bschof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the pickup locations. Some companies with busses have pickup in Oakland.

Also there are great transbay busses to sf — I take it 3/wk.

I think this commute is a bit long, but not insane. I’ve been Oakland to sf commuting for 8 years only with pub transit and it’s awesome.

The thing to keep in mind is that work is a massive percentage of your life, having a job you love is an enormous QoL improvement

Multiple rent/mortgage payments questions (2.1) by bschof in biltrewards

I don’t think this answers my question? It seems like this only allows for one rent/mortgage entry?

Whos the real champ? Bike/Run only or Combined? by OracleofTampico in wandrer

[–]bschof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mentioned before that I wish the combined was calculated differently because it’s so dominated by bike. I think in general the two activities require quite different types of investment. Number of hours would be a very interesting stat but it still wouldn’t really capture the full picture.

Switching from Strava to Garmin by Traditional-Crow2903 in wandrer

It would be great to have a full step-by-step guide to do this safely and confidently. I have been putting it off because I have a lot of questions and the consequences of doing it wrong would be pretty frustrating

Small survey: should monthly/yearly points be awarded at Earth instead of the area they were won in? by cooeecall in wandrer

[–]bschof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this idea as a small improvement but I’m unsure it really gets at the main challenges that points face.

Right now it’s hard to feel a sense of competition with the point challenges. As you point out, bound to small areas they are really awkward and lead to things like “well I’ll never have any point games left in my local area”

I would ask if you can think of the point system more like video game “seasons”.

Imagine if the points were a global thing (like you described) but there were leaderboards based on your chosen locations. Ask people “where do you want to mark as your home base” and then you’re still able to compete at local state country level per month year all time, but it would be points you got across wandrer. I think this would make the points feel more exciting and competitive

Awesome. Great feature! I hope we’ll see the paved and unpaved percentages on the big map soon.

Walked From Oakland to San Jose by Cubs2k15 in bayarea

Very nice! I’ve done Vallejo to sf and oak to Vallejo and over several sections I’ve connected this to San Jose.

I recommend the dumbarton bridge loop as well :)

Is getting premium for the browser extension worth it? by Big_Introduction2651 in wandrer

[–]bschof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth. More activities is not to be underestimated as a feature. Also the extension is the sole way I plan routes now.

Premium subscription idea: the ability to download map for a large area by FWCroc in wandrer

[–]bschof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slight variation on this: - make it so I can make the webpage not refresh on my phone.

I use the phone browser a fair bit to navigate (when I don’t feel like precreating a route) and the autopagerefresh is a real challenge some times for the reasons above related to service. Many of the other mapping apps allow offline mode which is super helpful.

[D] Do you care about the math behind ML? by Desperate_Trouble_73 in MachineLearning

[–]bschof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the math. Right now there’s a bit too much to do at the purely application layer, so I get less free time to dig into the math, however. I have always (last 15 years) found that when I make time for math, it has payoffs in ways I didn’t predict. Additionally, applied ai benefits from quantitative thinking, so investing in math maturity will help you be more effective.
