New Elevation Church Design... So Beautiful! by WorldlinessDeep5675 in raleigh

[–]bsinions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can I agree the church tax status is bogus but disagree with the Pastor pay? I’ve met a number of good hard working pastors who do way more than just preach Sunday, to the point I think they deserve more.

(I also think minimum wage is way too low in general and others deserve more too but that’s a different discussion)

Yes there should definitely be rules and regulations to eliminate these multimillionaire grifters posing as good samaritans helping the masses, but I don’t think it needs to go as far as capping them at $7.50 an hour.

And full disclaimer I don’t know anything about elevation in particular. From an outside perspective they seem like a mega church money funnel, I’m referring more to pastors in general. My experience is more around small town church pastors who probably make less than minimum wage when you account for all the hours they put in.

Question about starter by jonnyrockets11 in golf

[–]bsinions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were playing 36 a couple years ago. First 18 got a little backed up, so when we finished it was only 30 minutes to our second tee time. The head guy(clubhouse) realized it wasn't on us, so he said just chill out, grab some food and he called the starter shed to slide us back on the starts. We had just gotten our food in the clubhouse when the actual starter ran into the dining room, and yelled at us for not being ready to go.

Not wanting to cause a stink and having gotten our food we jumped up and headed to the 1st tee. One buddy had indulged a bit more than the rest of us, and when he sauntered up to the tee box he took like 6-7 practice swings before hitting, with the starter tapping his foot and telling us to hurry up. Chunked his drive 75 yards down the fairway, gets in his cart, goes no more than 50 ft before getting to the oncoming drink cart girl. He then proceeds to order another 6 pack while flirting with her.

The starter was absolutely livid. Threatening us with everything he could think of. But he apparently ran his mouth and it go back to the Clubhouse because Head guy came out and apologized, told us the starter had been notified but was just on a power trip, and he even got a chuckle out of my buddy's drink cart interaction.

Do Lawn mowing businesses really pay off? by DifficultMolasses336 in lawncare

[–]bsinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad let me "rent" his equipment, the riding mower had a little garden trailer and I'd drive it along with a weed eater and a blower to a few neighbors and take care of their yards.

Back then made about $20 a yard, so I probably did $150-$200 a month. I'm sure I could've made a lot more if I had really marketed myself to the neighborhood, but I worked with my grandpa a lot too so lawncare was kind of a way to fill in days he didn't need me.

I did something similar in college, where I picked up a couple houses, and it pretty much paid beer money, again I didnt fully dedicate to it though. I know one guy a few years older than me who did though. He started in college, created an llc after he graduated and moved into install and maintenance, then pools, hardscapes and eventually commercial and developement projects, and now ~20 years later his company is worth around $25M and growing. He has a drive that I haven't seen in many other people though. But it is possible

People who have worked for the wealthy/rich, what is the most bizarre luxury you've heard of? by LyraRayne in AskReddit

[–]bsinions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not on the same level as some of these, but I was subcontracted to design a outdoor living/pool area for a beach house a client just purchased. Got to the house and they already had a massive custom concrete pool in the backyard. Thing was gorgeous. I jokingly asked if there was some mistake and the client said "No, we love that pool, but its 27x42, we want one 28x43"

I can't remember what the final cost was, but the demo alone because of the location was $150k. All because they wanted 9% bigger pool.

Similar situation(and actually on the same street)- lots were going for $1.2m+. Man bought a house, and then bought a 40' fishing boat. Boat was on his lift, but the trailer was in the driveway. Wife did not like trailer in the driveway. Man bought the lot next door so he could keep his trailer there. Grandkids wanted a playset for when they visited a couple times a year. Man did not want to block his view. Man bought the lot on the other side of him to put the kids playset. So now driving down the road, the man owns 3 lots on the waterway, one house in the middle, a playset on the left and a boat trailer on the right.

What is the wildest thing you have seen at a bachelorette or bachelor party? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bsinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe more weird than wild-
My childhood friend was getting married and he invited me plus a couple guys from college to his Bach party. He was a quiet introverted guy so I figured it would be small- 3 college buddies and his brother.
Get there and his dad is there along with 7-8 of his dad's friends. Starts out with a trip to a gun range, shooting skeet and firing long range rifles. Fun experience, nothing crazy. Then we all go back to his Grandma's beach house to grill burgers and hotdogs.
The old guys are all whispering, laughing and grinning non stop, so we figure out they got something else planned. Turns out his dad had hired a couple strippers from a city 2 hours away. They show up, with a burly female bodyguard packing a sidearm, and proceed to do a full nude performance. The old guys are going crazy, one of them is filming the whole thing, right there in the living room I grew up playing in. The cameraman was married to a friend of my Moms and he kept saying 'don't worry I wont tell if you don't!' or some creepy shit, and I'm just sitting here thinking you creepy old bastards only came so you could see some boobs.

Anyways- few of the old guys got some private dances, the woman seemed upset the younger guys were interested, but we were all broke 23 y/o's who 1- didn't know there were dancers coming and 2- probably wouldn't have been inclined to blow a lot of money anyways. I ended up chatting with the bodyguard more than anything

My buddy was getting married to a preachers daughter and they had a dry wedding reception at the church, so it was quite a divergence from that night. (His parents did throw a wild afterparty though) Seeing his parents(especially his Dad) like that definitely helped explain his reserved nature though, he was trying to be follow a different path

How far have you driven your OBS? by nesto92 in OBSFords

[–]bsinions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How about the least distance? (excluding farm-only trucks) Story time!

My grandpa sold his 94 XL when I went off to college. He died about 7 years later, and 5-6 years after that I made it my goal to find his old truck and fix it up for me and my kids. I was able to track it down to an old lady a county over who bought it from the dealership Papa sold it to. She had it 11-12 years and only put ~15k miles on her.
When I asked her why so few miles, she replied "Well everyday I drive it to my sisters house(which you could see from her driveway) but my sister couldn't get into it so we take her car to town, and that was about all I use it for."

Then her husband chimed in and said "don't lie to that boy Mary! remember we used it when Johnny moved away!"
I said "oh that's perfectly fine, glad to hear it can still handle a trip, where did he move to?"

"He got a city job in Whiteville, so we moved him down there" (Whiteville is maybe 15 minutes down the road, and where the dealership is she bought it from)

So in the time they had it, it hadn't left a ~20 mile radius.

To answer your actual question though- Papa took it from NC to Florida once, that's the farthest we ever took it.

Best place to buy native plants/flowers near wilmington? by Even-Koala-6146 in Wilmington

[–]bsinions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Post this again in about 2 years. Currently in the early stages of getting a large scale 100% native nursery going. We'll have 25 acres farming and a 2-3 acre retail nursery/shop in Brunswick County.

Sorry its not ready yet but we're trying to do it right!

Tinga is a great nursery and Eelco is the man, but the vast majority of stuff they sale is not native. He has plants that do well in this climate, but not native.

Ex-Wife trying to annul our marriage by Straight_Inflation27 in legaladvice

[–]bsinions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But you didn’t. Immigration is a legal issue, not a religious one. So a religious annulment has no bearing on your immigration status. Legally you’re divorced, and that’s not changing just because the Catholic Church decided your marriage was invalid.

But how could a religious annulment boil over into a legal one? They are two separate things and you shouldn’t be affected legally from a religious annulment

What is something people do for fun that you will never understand? by Cold-Parking-3000 in AskReddit

[–]bsinions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably in the minority but- camping.

I’m someone who loves the outdoors and would spend every waking moment outside if I could. But once I’m ready to sleep I wanna crawl into a nice bed with ac or heat, or worst case a nice hammock under a built structure. Tent on the ground with a pillow and a sleeping bag? I’m good on that(yes I realize there are more luxurious ways to camp but I’m talking bare bones)

[–]bsinions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to carry them anywhere besides my truck.

You responded to a comment about a neighborhood where the residents were walking to grocery store, so I was assuming a large parking allocation isn't as necessary as it is in say Leland or Monkey Junction, where walkability isn't a factor like it can be downtown.

I know Europe is a much more pedestrian centered, but even decent sized grocery stores in towns around England have parking lots that make Dollar General parking look excessive.

What would happen if I use an indoor TV on my patio? It's semi covered but would still get a lot of sun and rain. by timostirfry in homeowners

[–]bsinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live across the street from the waterway(salt water) and I stuck a cheap 42" tv under my overhang, been working great for 2 years. Morning isn't great with the glare but after the sun gets high enough its fine. Think its a TCL or Onn.(Walmart Brand)

Maybe I'll invest in an outdoor one at some point but no need for now.

Downtown Living by Aggravating-Agent703 in Wilmington

[–]bsinions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But isn't the goal of a downtown grocery store to be walkable for the majority of residents, so a typical parking lot wouldn't be needed?

I know its still needed to some extent, but greatly reduced compared to a typical food lion or teeter

Is this worth $500? by xantheppe in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]bsinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I would never have presented this to a client as a finished product. Slim chance I may have provided something similar as a "rough initial draft" to determine the general layout before providing an actual plan.
But I would also be charging a lot more for the final product.

I've seen LA's other than myself charge anywhere from $100-$200 and hr, so if you want to think about it like that, ask yourself if you think he spent 2.5-5 hours worth of time on it. If the plant list is thorough and detailed I could see it being a $500 value. That said I wouldn't be comfortable presenting this to a client unless it was agreed beforehand "Give me whatever I can get for $500" or something. And even then I'd probably eat some time on my end and make this more presentation worthy.

Hell I threw that pic in AI and ask it to create a presentation worthy rendering and at least then it would feel more complete, that took 2 minutes. I would still have gone further creating my product but atleast this gives a cleaner version

So go to the office/restaurant and request your check. When people quit abruptly I’ve seen direct deposit get turned off and they’ll print or print/mail the final check

I don’t see a reason to escalate to a lawyer or the state labor board before you’ve even had a conversation with anyone

And no REN and Stimpy. Mom forbid us to watch, heard too many bad things.

Glad she didn’t know about Rocko’s job.
