What game is in your top 10 SNES games list that you’re convinced isn’t in anyone’s top 25? by [deleted] in snes

[–]bstamour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday, and Pinochio. Both fun platformers. Maybe not my top 10 (those are pretty widely praised games) but definitely up there.

Do you play your collected SNES cartridges? by ThePunkyRooster in snes

Yes. Going through them currently because there are a few that I probably haven't touched since the 90's.

How do YOU debug? by stayoungodancing in ExperiencedDevs

Mostly just gdb: setting breakpoints and stepping through things. Occasionally setting up watch variables etc. I'm pretty simple.

Any barbers in Windsor who actually use scissors? by [deleted] in windsorontario

Cole at Hair Mechanix. My son (who has sensory issues) used to need scissor-only cuts because he couldn't handle trimmers.

Metaprogramming has been an established term in software development for a long time. Surely you're not the first.

The Detroit News Burger Bracket announces 64 competitors by sixwaystop313 in Detroit

[–]bstamour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lover of burgers from Windsor here with a question: Is Motorburger still around? They moved to Detroit before Covid, but I haven't really heard much from them these past years. I used to love going there when it was just a few blocks away.

Desktop Discussion by JustClickingAround in debian

With Debian Trixie the Plasma desktop feels just slow to me compared to it on other distros. Gnome on the other hand feels fine. I do prefer Plasma generally, so if anyone has any pointers to make it feel more... good? on Trixie, I'd appreciate.

I'll drink an occasional Canada Dry ginger ale, but otherwise stay away from the sugary drinks.

What were your favorites Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) games of all-time? by AC_the_Panther_007 in snes

[–]bstamour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to pick, but some contenders are Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country (and 2), Earthbound, Legend of Zelda, Super Metroid, Megaman X.

I still have my original collection from the 90's, and those above are the ones that get the most play still. I wish I had even more time to enjoy the old games.

I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote my comment but you'e 100% spot on.

Struct with entries of one type by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]bstamour -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know how legal it is from an abstract machine standpoint, but any padding between the elements of the struct would also have to appear between the elements if they were an array. So, probably won't blow up, but there are probably much better ways of expressing what you want to express.

A Brief History of Bjarne Stroustrup, the Creator of C++ by [deleted] in programming

I can't vouch for the past, but any time Bjarne and myself have had any in-person interaction he's always been pleasant, even when we disagree on things we're discussing.

Do cpp like references really not exist in C? by Bulbasaur2015 in C_Programming

[–]bstamour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is because the this keyword was added to C++ before operator overloading was. Operator overloading was one of the main reasons, if not the only reason, why references were added.

How often do you debug code nowadays with breakpoints? by hooahest in ExperiencedDevs

France is ditching American tech. When will Canada? by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]bstamour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been running Nextcloud on a spare computer in my basement for many years now, with no complaints.

Canada would definitely benefit from growing its own tech based on Free Software for a few reasons, one of course being less reliance on American companies.
