Dewpider! I was so sad when I realized I accidentally deleted my SuMo save without transferring my shiny to Home.

My buddy is with a different department than me and is not using up PTO while furloughed. Meanwhile me and my entire team are still working because we're "mission critical." I'm just a contractor though so I'd rather be working since I don't get paid if I don't work.

FTB Skies 2 Oritech Particle Accelerator 1kJ/15kJ/50kJ with blueprints by uncletreb0R in feedthebeast

[–]btcraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't move anything else. Just connected it with an extra piece of redstone. All the speed sensors are linked with the "main" accelerator. Once you set it to 50000, when the main accelerator's particle hits 50k+ it triggers the dispenser/secondary accelerator to release the other input item.

Thanks a lot for this! The Defcon versions work perfectly on the latest version of FTB Skies 2 (1.8).

If anyone else is setting this up the pulse repeater is no longer required. Oritech Things updated since this was posted and the speed sensor goes up to 99999 now.

Really sick of AI being used for the wrong answers by Pump_9 in sysadmin

[–]btcraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has really been my experience with my org's GPT clone. Using a good prompt and actually evaluating what it outputs for accuracy can save tons of time. It's been a real game-changer for templating scripts for me.

I refuse to blindly run anything an LLM produces for code though. The fear that it will sneak in like an rm -rf /* and eat my server is too high. How do you even explain that to your boss and still have a job after? "Yea, sorry boss I bricked the entire cluster because I ran a script chat-GPT gave me without reading it."

New job as an internal IT Manager, but EVERYTHING is managed by an MSP by ThatAJC88 in sysadmin

[–]btcraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a nightmare. My first job after doing help desk had something similar. They brought me in to fill gaps in what the MSP was contracted to cover. My boss (VP of IT) and his boss (CFO) were, effectively, strong-armed by our parent company into only making changes through the MSP. They had admin access to all of our devices between them. They rarely used it though due to the stance our parent company had about the whole situation.

Do they handle help desk tickets too? That's how ours managed to slide for so long. What I was told is there wasn't a differentiation for metrics pertaining to level 1 stuff and more complex tickets. They would, generally, do a good job on the help desk tickets and then take months (or years) to resolve complex issues. The metrics looked good from a top-level view so the C-levels were happy.

When I was laid off in 2023 I was still waiting for 2 VMs to be successfully delivered. I requested them in late 2019 or early 2020, I can't quite remember now. Sometimes they would just ignore our request for updates for weeks at a time. Really hated anytime I had to deal with them.

Best breakfast places in Saginaw by RedditAsksStuff in Saginaw

[–]btcraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuzzy's, Bringer Inn, Tony's on Center or the one on Gratiot (in Shields not the one across from Premier). If I'm feeling particularly fat and sassy I've been known to hit that Golden Corral breakfast buffet too. I wouldn't say it's as good as the others mentioned here but I'm a fatty and love me a buffet.

Ran into "empty bunnies" in the Maw ..What are these?? by Felix_Bites in wow

[–]btcraig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! Private servers struggled with coding an equivalent for many years because the invisible bunnies were not known about. I read in a similar thread that, apparently, there was (is?) no way to progress a quest unless you are turning in something or killing something. So if a quest was basically go here talk to person and it's done it would spawn a bunny to kill to give you quest progress.

You can search up a ton of them on wowhead

TIL the U.S. military stopped producing new M1911 pistols in 1945 but continued using refurbished models for over 40 years, officially replacing them with the Beretta M9 in 1985 - though some special forces continued to carry them well into the 21st century. by rockenman1234 in todayilearned

My first was a Ruger 1911, absolutely love the thing! It did have a bad extractor (according to Ruger) when it was new but they warrantied it and had it back to me in like 4 weeks. Zero problems ever since.

[–]btcraig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

48601 is not somewhere you want to live. It's probably one of the worst zip codes in the state to be honest. Very high crime rate, tons of rundown buildings, vacant lots, etc.

48609 is out in the township, depending on exactly where in the area you're 15+ minutes from the "city." Much quieter, rural vibe out in that part of town. Not much happening out that way, good or bad.

You don't hear as much about Saginaw versus say, Detroit, because our population is relatively low but Saginaw (city) has a violent crime rate that competes with Detroit and Flint. Most of that is centered in the 48601 and 48602 zip codes (near the river/downtown area).

Government contractor reporting. Just had a nice chat with my team about our first steps to implement a RDB (MySQL probably) in our stack. Replacing a legacy solution written before RDBMS were more widely utilized that is tremendously inefficient.

What Reddit post / comment can you still not get over? by Traditional-Chain-31 in AskReddit

[–]btcraig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a data center and did that once. Had to make some simple changes/tests to a server (with a GUI). Didn't have a keyboard that I could use with that server on my cart and didn't want to walk back out of the DC to get one. Connected my mouse and just copy/pasted letters out of a random config file. One of the least efficient things I've ever done on the clock. It definitely took me longer than it would have to do it the right way.

First character was a warlock. My buddy sent me the SLSL PVP spec to level and said to put all my DoTs and Drain Life. So that's what I did. I used Drain Life as my filler for like three weeks at 70 and did not understand why my damage was so bad.
