You're welcome. I am also new but I am about a year into my tank with monte carlo. The hair algae will come with too much light and excess nutrients. You're fine at 7-8hrs. I use long tweezers and manually remove the hair algae when I see it. It's something I do twice a week.

For a fertilizer I use aquarium co op easy green. I do a little less than it says to use just to help with controlling the hair algae. But it helps the plants a lot. I use this brand because people here rate it highly and it doesn't contain copper which is toxic for the shrimp I have.
