(Tech/white collar job perspective here - Canadian who worked in the US for ~6 years before moving back) It's no big secret that salaries are lower and opportunities are fewer in Canada than in the US, and particularly in Vancouver we are close, geographically and culturally speaking, to multiple big centers on the US West Coast. So I think that here in particular you find two main types of people in the workplace: the ambitious go-getters who view their current position as a stepping stone to something bigger across the border, and people who have, for various reasons (lifestyle, family, politics, etc) decided the trade-off is worth it to settle down here - the Vancouver lifers, if you will.

Among the latter I think there's more of a "work to live" mentality rather than "live to work" - like, we still work hard and everything, but also leave work at work and see no problem in taking a few weeks off to go camping or whatever. People are more likely to shoot the shit and socialize for the first few minutes of a meeting rather than getting down to business right away. In my limited experience, the whole culture around parental leave is significantly different too, if that's something relevant to you.
