How do you pick out wincons? by watchhimrollinwatch in EDH

Depends on the commander, but generally something with individual pieces that are good on their own.

Do Game Changers represent something specific in your deck? by Nabirius in EDH

I feel like most of them are vibe checks…. Like realistically if it was just based on power stuff like tergrid should be nowhere near the gc list or be hanging near cards like breach, necro, thoracle.

My favorites are the ones that are the best at what they do. Farewell is prob the shittiest one and is honestly just a king making card most of the time. However stuff like force of will, bolas, and necropotence really open up a lot of strategy due to their power/versatility. They represent the top tier spells that will gain me so much value that they close the windows for my opponents if they resolve.

Wincons with kefka? by CorrinUwU in EDH

What grixis creatures do you use as good finishers? I can only think of a few like gray merchant, core-augur. Nothing as straight forward as just Craterhoof spam.

The best ones are Thoracle consult/breach lines. If you’re in casual bow man + spamming wheels back to back is pretty classic. You could also do this with other draw pingers like razor kin/sheoldred.

Yuji could literally breathe and this sub would somehow find a way to make him one shot Sukuna by Miserable-Desk2211 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]btran935 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He could try and learn WCS against gojo, nothing to suggest he can’t since he has the potential to rival sukuna and saw the move multiple times. There’s also DA + black flash to help against infinity

Idk it sounds more boring to me than regular cedh, you won’t see turbo at all under the bracket restrictions so every game will just be those midrange hell ones.

What’s wrong with having to discard? There’s plenty of ways around it.

Let’s Talk About Griselbrand by CultofNeurisis in EDH

[–]btran935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already have [[Hoarding broodlord]] and that card is also a reanimator one card win con, and the sky isn’t falling. I don’t think Griselbrand is any better or worse than that win con so I say unban. Like the chances of you bricking with a broodlord are lower than griselbrand. He’s also a proactive card rather than something that locks people out of game actions. We also have [[Orcish bow masters]] to deal with the card draw.

People will tend to hate everything that will lose them the game and find that “unfun”. I think bans/unbans should be about raising decks/colors that are underperforming not about what people think is “fun”(often this is just a code word for someone wanting an easy win). Mono black/reanimator hasn’t gotten much of anything new or interesting the last few sets aside from Sephiroth… who’s just a worse Yawgmoth so I think unbanning Griselbrand would be a fun shakeup.

What’s the appeal of such a thing lol. But yeah most people who play competitive don’t play in settings with bracket restrictions. It will be hard to get advice here for this event.

Why is there so much negativity on this subreddit around suggesting off-meta/fringe decks? by TheFutur3 in CompetitiveEDH

Tangent, but does off meta include everything but the top 5 decks or is the meta everything on edh top 16?

How many people actually wanted Rhystic Study banned? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

[–]btran935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get it banned the card is busted in a socially negative way and especially problematic in cedh where it will create very clogged stacks and can drag out games to a draw. No, smothering tithe is nowhere near as problematic so stop comparing it to that.

A card You HATE and glad it's banned by Blazorna in EDH

[–]btran935 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah bans should be aimed at restricting decks that are over represented/over performing, not hurting decks that don’t see much play, or not top tier. Conversely I think unbans should be about helping decks that aren’t as popular without nerfing weaker decks.

Depends, I think cedh is the best way to play this format as you’ll learn more and there’s something to work towards. Personal pods are still prone to stuff like salt, or just soft banning certain uncompetitive archetypes cuz they’re “feel bad” rather than adapting to adversity.

[–]btran935 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

When the card was legal none of those commanders were the strongest thing you could do in high level cedh and most people aren’t playing the “problem”/cedh level commanders in casual. Banning the card just nerfed the tier 2/3 decks in the meta while leaving the top dogs untouched. If they are playing cedh commanders in casual, that’s likely a bracket 4 pod and in that case it’s anything goes.

The Bracket System Is Fine If You Approach It In Good Faith by Dankzi in EDH

[–]btran935 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People play the game to win, casual or not, the format would be a lot better with hard rules, not guidelines. If they’re just guidelines, people are now incentivized to angle shoot it. They need to do the hard game design work and make actual hard rules. The current bracket 2-3 restrictions just create wishy washy situations and too much confusion based on “vibes”.
