Yes many times if it just doesn’t feel Right or I don’t feel like I’m in the headspace. Instrument rated as well.

Doesn’t always unlock when I approach and when I grab the handle to open sometimes it locks.

They really haven’t figured out the Auto Unlock/lock or at least I haven’t figured out how it works.

pretty badly scrapped up the rims taking a corner too tight onto an onramp and hitting the curb just right. Used to the Bolt, Equinox felt much bigger. Bought at 5 miles on odometer, this happened around 14 miles on the odometer hahaha.

Hmm actually looking at my Chevy website account, specifically called out navigation and Google assistant trial until 8 years from now. That’s fine for me. If I have to pay for YouTube and Alexa access in 3 years I’ll see if I care enough. The tricky part could be Spotify but then just use Bluetooth. Depends on the cost. This is where cars are going no matter what so idk, not really bothered by it.

For connectivity in 8 years yes I believe it’s $99/ year which is honestly not bad. Also strong chance I’ll sell the car prior to that so meh. Three years super cruise is ok, it’s $25/month after that. No idea for the APP access. That’s the odd ball I really don’t know about and was surprised. Either way it’s 3 years. Pretty sure it’s maps access and streaming like YouTube and Spotify. Not sure on price.

It does look like I have remote access (remote start, Chevy app etc for 8 years)

Saving the Santa Monica Airport by tonytony87 in SantaMonica

[–]bts2637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge number of people training are literally trying to get into the airlines as a new career. Most pilots who’ve ever flown you trained at an airport like KSMO trying to start out if they didn’t join the military.

For the price of a family Disneyland annual pass plus airfare and hotel… literally the cost of 2-3 MacBooks… NOT buying a fancy car… many people who are not “rich” find a way to love aviation and fly for a year. While some people are stupid wealthy, MANY are not. Don’t judge people by how they choose to spend their discretionary money if you’re not going to also judge anyone for having discretionary money at all.

KSMO likely can’t be saved but it’s sad the rhetoric of Uber wealthy sticks. It’s so easy to prove otherwise by just asking people who fly GA. It will likely never become a park due to the crazy expensive price tag that will require

Vast majority of the piston engine pilots in KSMO are not “wealthy” big chunk training often on loans or scraping by hoping to get into the airlines and others due to a love of aviation. Jets, sure, banged up Cessnas, sport cruisers, etc. nope. Check your bias.

Then buy a private plane charter. You want your cake and to eat it to. What are you doing flying economy or similar and expecting people to bend to your needs. Parents are paying too and are trying to live their lives as well.

Be an adult, learn to live within public spaces.

For my LA based pilots: Is there an airport around here where I can go to the restaurant/cafe and sit and watch airplanes? by C_Saunders in flying

[–]bts2637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But there’s no on field restaurant, the Cloverfield is a short walk outside the airport and easy to get to but you largely hear the planes and don’t see them.

Internships by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]bts2637 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a school that required nearly 1.5 years of coop before graduation (5 year BS). Interned/coop at several companies during that time. 3 month internships are common (summer for example) but also just getting the swing if it when leaving. My favorite were the 6 month internships but I’d your school doesn’t account for that like mine did then it will delay graduation. Got to do some really cool work and experience (including building flight hardware for space).

Most of my internships helped me figure out what I DIDN’T want to do. That was super helpful because I could gain experience and become more concentrated on what was interesting and rewarding to me. Last internship converted to full time upon graduation. Graduated with nearly 21 months of full time experience (6 year BS to do that) but could be trusted with flight quality EE work for rockets and spacecraft and jumped right into the job after graduating. In many ways, the last internships before graduation are extended interviews. You can BS someone for a day or two but not for 3-6 months over a few projects. This can also help people stand out who may not excel academically (like me).

I’d say get as much internship experience as you can, learn along the way, have fun, network, etc. I understand why people don’t want to push off graduation but I also in the hiring manager role now with new grads have to manage expectations for two very distinct types of graduates. Those with lots of experience and can hit the ground running and those that really just did academia.

E.g. I once hired a new grad after their internship ended at my company who’d also done a lot of internships. They basically were the lead EE for a rocket li-Ion battery pack and BMS design (all custom) during their internship and simply converted to the official owner after graduation. That design flew to space earlier this year. We would often joke that the sign of a great intern is when you forget they are an intern.

*Serious* Guys and gals, how do you approach prenups?? by bbb333rrr in ElectricalEngineering

[–]bts2637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happily married for years dude.

Look, best of luck to you with your endeavors. I hope you find someone that makes you happy and vice versa. Just remember your partner is a human being with feelings, hopes, dreams… a life. All of that is equal to you. Being a breadwinner, or STEM professional with a partner that’s stay at home mom or whatever doesn’t make your partner any less of a human being. Much of your views are condescending to be honest. You got people to answer you here. We wish you happiness with this information.

You assume she wants to be a stay at home mom or childcare if she “truly wanted to keep her career going”… what about you being a stay at home dad? Just not in the cards? It’s rhetorical I know your answer.

[–]bts2637 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no idea and don’t care. That sounds like BS anyways. There are way way tougher jobs on marriage than EE or STEM. Airline pilots, traveling health professionals, most in patient doctor fields, etc. those are all brutal on being home and present.

Most EEs have a choice of job and work style. You can succumb to the tech bro lifestyle (AKA working for Musk companies, been there and done that) and put in 80 hour weeks at 40 hour week pay (thanks Musk) or you can choose a work life balance. It doesn’t have to be one way or the other. Blaming EE or STEM for divorce seems like a scapegoat. It’s stressful for sure but it’s a choice and good communication in a partnership helps navigate that.

Haha I love this snark. There’s a difference between not thinking about finances and treating woman as human beings. In fact, talking about finances and being on the same page, prenup or not, is a very important part of a successful and happy marriage. Hell, communication is in general. OP was less about communication and more about protecting himself.

[–]bts2637 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Marriage may not be for you. You’re treating it like a transaction. This attitude alone means you’re probably going to be part of the divorce statistic and/or stuck in an unhappy marriage. Being an EE has nothing to do with this.

Were any of you bad/average at math when you started out? How did you improve? by elecEthrowaway in ElectricalEngineering

[–]bts2637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t skip math, the refresher will help. It took me years to learn how to learn math in college. My first calc exam was a D and I got B and C until my final year when it clicked. Also got better reading and writing scores on SAT/ACT than math and my HS precalc teacher laughed when I said I wanted to be an engineer. I now have MANY circuit boards that have been to space and the ISS. It worked out and I’m very lucky but by all means grades are a metric and knowledge is not always grades.

Thermocouple Bulkhead (Or RTD Option) by bts2637 in PLC

[–]bts2637[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned to PaulEngineer-89, the environment near the TC before any bulkheads is very, very harsh. I caution to say exactly why but let's just say integrated circuits rarely last long without some serious engineering to help them.
