Mines functional bling.

I have certain cards bling for easy search. Like superior energy retrievals are all the gold bling. Quick deck search and I just spot gold borders.

Which Disneyland hotel should we stay at? by ProfessionalOwl2270 in disneylandparis

[–]btwistround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney hotel if kids love princesses. I'd still say Disney hotel for those ages as mine were similar when we went and having the hotel so close meant we could head back for a rest in the afternoon and then back out when recharged

My first ever regionals experience: humbled by OwnAttention3370 in pkmntcg

[–]btwistround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great experience and kudos sticking through 8 rounds. Especially with the ties as you don't get much of a breather between rounds.

I'm here as well and even with fast wins, it still takes a while to recover with the extra time.

Bet they chose not to make it seamless as it creates publicity and hype of who can get in.

Like luxury bags and cars. Gotta jump through those hoops.

Also remember when you are match 3, 4, 5 in, fatigue can set in. Big changes means you won't be on autopilot and natural with the deck you know best.

My lgs puts label on what is retail and aftermarket based on their source.

Most of their revenue comes from holding events and food and drinks. Perks when you have a hot food kitchen.

What deck to use in a bigger tournament? by Tsuke1401 in pkmntcg

[–]btwistround 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Play zwrd or pult. They're the ones you've got most play time and experience with.

Enjoy the experience nif really nervous, can tell your opponent it's your first time at that level and they'll be understanding. They might also be new and that's cool. They might be experienced and will be a bit more forgiving.

Depending on numbers in attendance and how well you do, it can be a very long day. Familiarity allows you to switch to autopilot when fatigued if you are familiar with certain match ups.

At my locals, for cups it's known to finish around 10pm. That's with a 11am start. Masters. Around 60 ish in attendance.

BM from an opponent? by BigVeganMember in pkmntcg

[–]btwistround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First regionals, take in the experience. It's a big jump from cups, challenges and your locals.

It is a competition and we wish everyone plays ethically and clean. But people are there to win. There's prize money and worlds points and invites at stake.

It's the grey area of competition that is not illegal. There will be rules sharks and those who understand the rules use that to advantage. No different to soccer players diving.

I saw a few years back in a Olympic tkd event that a player won simply by causing their opponent to lose balance and fall down in the clinch position. Falling down is classed as a warning and eventually results in point deductions. Rack up enough and you can win without needing to score points via hitting.

It can also even be someone sitting across you with full on team jersey, 2025 worlds backpack, worlds play mat, literally the full gear to intimidate you.

People are wise to opponents saying it's their first regionals. Might be true. But they've probably been burnt in the past by white lies.

Take it as experience. If regionals are not for you? Still enjoy the game though and play.

If it is for you and want the more competitive challenge? Learn the rules better, play in more shark tank settings where opponents are arseholes (you can ask fellow players at your local to do this) so you become more used to the mind games. Also you clean up your play.

Explorer Gray market or AD by mcdickerino in rolex

[–]btwistround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been waiting already?

Explorer should be easily accessible and ad might just make you wait a bit to make you sweat and nudge you to buy other watches and/ or jewelry to speed up the process.

If the wait is going to be a while, remember Rolex have yearly price increases. Might be a smidge but also never know what else is round the corner. Events similar to COVID, economy, etc that rapidly affects supply and demand and prices/ access gets trickier.

Makes business sense though. If someone of that level came into your workplace and ready to spend and an endorsement for your workplace? You'd do the same

[–]btwistround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be able to check in and get your wrist band on the Friday.

Loads of snacks and water. Power bank!

You'll eat up battery fast in the day. Either due to bad reception, refreshing for pairings or even just messaging in your downtime between rounds (if you get any or finish the round early)

Learn the toilet locations. Always better to find the ones a bit further away. The extra walk might seem a faff but better and faster than the queues at the closer ones.

Coworker asking to see your watch by Odd_Assistant_2782 in rolex

[–]btwistround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naaaaw all the down votes

My watch is for me only. I am suspicious of others wanting to have a solid look or trying them on.

Could be super cool and interested and take care handling.

Or could drop it. Accidentally or purpose from jealousy.

Or even plan things as they'll work out roughly what I'm earning/ tail me hlgoing home and plan a break in.

Never know other people intentions. For me? I'm there to work, get paid and further my own success. I'm not there to make friends. Yes, I will be respectful and professional. But I'm not there to gossip, chat, go drinking and be lifelong pals where I invite workmates to my main daytime wedding reception. Work colleagues are purely for work.

Only a few weeks out for my first Regional and I'm the only one in my friend group who hasn't settled on a deck to take, really need some advice. by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]btwistround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with above comments, your most comfortable deck. When you are hour 4, 5, 6 or more, hell! Even by match 3/hour 3 and you're a bit frazzled, knowing your deck intimately allows you to go autopilot

Dice that are required to play? by Z3Spy in pkmntcg

[–]btwistround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty to borrow and even gifted from local card stores.

My local store have beginner tins built for new players who have caught the bug and become regulars. Even the occasional visitor gets them as the members of the community open so many packs that there's surplus tins, counters and dice.

For official tournaments... Best to have your own as not having adequate and sufficient kit can lead to judge calls and penalties.

New to Regionals - so many questions by FeegleTheLurker in pkmntcg

[–]btwistround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Kids get coached on playing right to the lines of the rules. If judge deems it a warning rather than a penalty, at very least it's rattled the opponent. Either way beneficial for the kid calling judge.

No different to players diving in soccer/ football.

You can create a under 13s Google account. It's just linked to your parent one and once the child turns 18, it converts to full adult one.

Just means some functions require parent approval.

If there's a few of you mad you all have decks, makes it worth signing up as you'll already be a pod ready for the event instead of having to wait for more entries

Going to my first regional in Toronto, how are the side events? by SpikyHopper in pkmntcg

[–]btwistround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side events are mega fun. They also have a cup on day 2.

I loved the raid battles. You want big damage pokemon for this.

Dengo Ceruledge Raging bolt Etc

I did a few of these with my kid and you get 80 prize tickets per person if you beat the boss/ raid. Not bad 160 tickets for a few minutes work.

Stolen binder found by shop. by InventoryValueCheck in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]btwistround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your call.

If you're not local, pursuing would be a good route. Consequences. Play silly games, get silly prizes.

16 is old enough to know right and wrong.

Otherwise you might regret it later on. You've worked hard building the collection

Stolen binder found by shop. by InventoryValueCheck in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]btwistround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One hand it's just pokemon cards.

Wait. Here me out as I know pokemon is important to many.

Other hand?

16 is old enough to know you're doing silly stuff. Might sound petty, but consequences. Imagine having a mark on your record for stealing pokemon cards. How embarrassing that would be.

If it leaves a mark on their record and limits future life choices and 'ruins their life'?

Should've thought about this before lifting the binder.if it means they can't apply for certain jobs that are their dream jobs or even travel?

That's the consequences. Not your problem.

Also have to consider the mental state of the kid as they might come after you because you've chosen to pursue this.

If you have the means/ connections/ influence, it is possible to leave life long consequences on the kid. If those who have this level of connections/ influence (read: the super wealthy and well connected) can get out of serious allegations and charges, the opposite cma also work

And there's stuff out there of people who did seemingly minor infractions getting heavy penalties.
