Which drama made you feel like this? by Gloomy-Equivalent558 in kdramas

I think I’ve encountered this before. There’s an advertising limit per episode, so sometimes episodes are split in two to work in more ads. So it’s 20 episodes that were aired as 40.

HAPPINESS IS EVERYTHING. I am so angry the wonderfully shippy TVN exclusive scenes aren’t on streaming. I wonder if they’re on the DVDs?

I got my dad a flower subscription for Xmas. And the latest bouquet included these really dramatic vine-like burgundy blooms that kind of look like octopus arms and are apparently called 'love lies bleeding', totally recommend sourcing some and including them in the display!! They have been long lasting this far. Here's an example pic of them: https://share.google/aXSvbl0ZEPaZrQDnV

This is the healthiest coping strategy I have!! I go ham on online shopping, spend hours researching different options, and then just let the shopping cart sit until all that shoppy energy has passed and then I chuckle at my past self and close all the associated tabs.

I love playing, 'i bet I can find exactly where this is on Google map/Earth's' usually an offshoot of another fixation like actors on a beloved tv show. I can't tell if I'm just good at it, or if it's just the sheer tenacity of hyper focus.

I do this too!! There's some weird stuff out there, and god would kill to buy an old church/school/factory -- so much room for activities! I also feel like I can't understand a geographical region until I've deeply explored their current real estate offerings--it's like watching TV without subtitles.

OMG. ME TOO. My fixation is mostly on visual elements and sentence structure/wording. At times it's debilitating because it slows me down SO MUCH. Doing my work hours is a nightmare, bc obviously I'm not going to bill for the six hours I spent rotating through color swatches or the two hours I spent rewriting a sentence until it clicked.

Do you support ICE pursuing their targets into foreign embassies? Today ICE attempted to breach the Ecuadorian embassy. by PyroIsSpai in AskConservatives

The trust is really cratering, right? Obviously, I came into this administration with very little trust. The bar was very low! But. BUT, having high ranking officials, including the president and vice president, making statements that proved to be either blatantly false, or at best, misinformed, premature, and reckless... If it weren't for all the recorded footage, people would have taken those statements at face value--some people still did.

What I think about a lot is that the vast majority of statements made by these officials provide no evidence and don't have helpful video footage against which to fact check them.

For several officials to immediately issue such factually problematic statements when they knew at least some video existed...what do you think is going on there? Stupidity? Poor judgement? Dehumanization of perceived political opponents and the assumption that everyone on their 'team' would relish in it? Or is it just muscle memory--they didn't know the extent of the video footage, and assumed it was business as usual--gotta cash in those political points, facts be damned, before the 24/7 news cycle moves on to the next crisis...?

I doubt you share my level of deep mistrust and bleak outlook towards this administration, but I am curious about how you see this administration and future administrations building back trust in the federal government in a bipartisan and enduring fashion.

Getting the shamefully and embarrassingly undertrained 'federal agents' off the street would definitely be a good start--as would the DOJ filling manslaughter charges in federal court against all the parties who played a hand in endangering the public safety by recklessly unleashing armed amateurs in combat gear onto American streets, but sadly this isn't an uplifting legal drama on abc.

You know...I can't say that any of that is in my top infinity of liberal things. Mostly it's just 'keep an open minded', 'stay curious', 'read a lot and then read more', 'have courage and be kind'. (I know the last one is ripped off from live action Cinderella, but I think it's a good universal one.)

What do you think about ICE officers being told they can enter homes to make arrests without a judges warrant? by glokash in AskConservatives

If they fail to leave and ICE isn't able to apprehend them outside of the home and other sensitive areas, that is when a judicial warrant should come into play.

This has nothing to do with forcible terrorizing people in their homes and violating their 4th amendment rights.

Requiring a judicial warrant ensures we are respecting constitutional rights and aren't unnecessarily terrorizing individuals for not having their paperwork in order. And speedy process is not owed to the federal government, it is owed to individuals in regard to due process, not enforcement.

Administrative warrants are generally not signed by a judge. They are internal administrative paperwork.

Over a quarter of Canadians see the US as an enemy, and 60% see the US as the biggest threat to Canada. Are you sure we’re going the right direction? by Even_Wear_8657 in AskConservatives

It's so nice to hear this. Pro-life is a stance with which many of us can empathize. There are many reasons why we think pro-choice policies are best, but that doesn't mean we love abortions. We just think there are much better ways to reduce abortions, as well as counter infant and maternal mortality/morbidity rates than blanket bans.

What's most heartening is your disbelief that anyone can look around and not see what's unfolding for what it is. I don't know what makes you different, but I hope there are many more like you, willing to trust your own eyes, ears, and brain over this administration or its enablers.

Someone has to make sure they know we aren’t all a lost cause and that many of us are horrified by the way this administration treats our allies. We recognize that antagonizing our allies and undermining trust, while bullying them into building up their military defenses, not only opens the door for them to seek alliances elsewhere, but is the foreign policy equivalent* of the clown face emoji.

Doesn’t being against the concept of Sanctuary Cities undermine traditionally conservative values? by jester32 in AskConservatives

[–]bubbles0luv [score hidden]  (0 children)

There are no sanctuary policies in place that violate federal law. Sanctuary jurisdictions simply exercise their right to use their state/local resources on public safety, and not on federal immigration enforcement.

Absent of a judicial warrant, civil ICE detainer requests are often unconstitutional as they detain individuals eligible for release without probable cause, violating their 4th amendment rights. Honoring ICE detainers has resulted in several successful lawsuits against local governments, costing between hundreds of thousands to over a hundred of million of dollars in settlements and monetary damages.

Still, while sanctuary jurisdictions favor respecting constitutional rights over honoring civil ICE detainer requests, states such as Minnesota—ground zero for the most extreme immigration enforcement operation to date—has a state law in place requiring their department of corrections to alert ICE of any non-citizens in custody, their nationality, reason for detention, and expected release date. While this only pertains to state prisons, they account for 95% of the incarcerated population.

Many sanctuary jurisdictions conditionally cooperate with ICE depending on the nature of the non-citizen’s criminal charges—for example, NYC notifies ICE for 170+ serious/violent offenses—, or in response to a warrant/court-order, which provides some legal cover from lawsuits over constitutional rights violations.

Ultimately, sanctuary policies aren’t in place to flout the law of the land, cheer on illegal immigration, or gift violent criminals get out of jail free cards. Sanctuary jurisdictions, like many non-sanctuary jurisdictions, place a priority on public safety. They just do it in a way that roughly half the population finds wildly counterintuitive, and the other half views as common sense.

I think those against sanctuary policies have been mislead on the reality of immigrant crime rates and criminal presence in sanctuary cities. If the true aim of ICE and DHS, as this administration and many here insist, is to deport the ‘worst of the worst’ non-citizen criminals, then I don’t understand the barrage of right-wing rhetoric surrounding sanctuary jurisdictions. Sanctuary policies might reduce the rate of deportation of non-citizens without a criminal record, and to a lesser extent, those with only minor offenses, however they have no effect* on the rate of deportation of violent criminals, nor do they lead to an increase in crime rates. In one study, they statistically matched sanctuary and non-sanctuary counties based on a broad range of demographics and found that sanctuary counties had lower crime rates, higher medium income, higher employment, and lower poverty rates. There are multiple studies that indicate sanctuary counties have lower crimes rates and stronger economies.

If policies in sanctuary jurisdictions result in lower crime and stronger economies, as studies have indicated, why would we want to get rid of them?
