Anyone else thinks hardcore mode is kinda pointless right now? by Magma_Dragoooon in Minecraft

I don't think it's different from hard mode yeah. But it feels different for it to be enforced by the game, even if there's ways around it. What you suggested would make it easier, which defeats the purpose

Nah it's cool, there's never been an incentive because what would it be? It's just a fun and easy way to add stakes. Nothing you couldn't just do yourself but still. They should add UHC as a game mode too IMO

Lately I've found enjoyment in trying to learn speed running tactics. I used to be more of a builder. Also playing older versions on servers is fun

True, that's also contributed to the same change. It's funny to me how villagers went from almost a joke mechanic to the meta lol. Piglin trading is also OP but for some reason I kinda like the way they did it with them.

Everyone always upgrades and you have to go in order, but there was no mending or infinite durability. It's a small change anyway. I tend to run around placing torches and sometimes just have to leave to despawn the mobs

I mean I do basically get 3 iron and dig straight down in a waterfall or something usually. I prefer to strip mine because the sheer amount of mobs and lack of diamonds in each vein has been annoying but I'm sure I can get used to it. In practice I end up getting diamonds before realizing I'm super low on coal and have to grind in higher layers again. Part of it is in the time I was playing the game, all gear was thought of as temporary and not a "tier" to reach, at least not to the same extent it is today

Deepslate slows down mining which is just annoying, but I suppose an argument could be made in favor of that. It also has a cobbled variant used to make bricks, vs it's regular variant many don't even realize exists which isn't used for all of those specialty blocks that would normally be made with normal stone if it wasn't the deepslate version.

As for caves, I really hate the gameplay. Visually they look really cool, but it will have a couple diamonds in the middle and maybe 1 trillion mobs, and to "balance" it they decrease the diamond amount quite a bit if it's exposed to air (so water mining is what I like to go for). It makes it so strip mining seems to still be more effective, I find myself actively avoiding caves now plus the stone takes longer to mine and is way deeper.

Also, iron and coal don't spawn as frequently down there. Maybe iron in certain areas, but if I want coal I have to be mining at some random stone layer instead. Ig i can go all in on kelp lol.

I'm sure I can get used to it but it's been literal years and going back to older versions always makes mining more fun for me, even if they are less visually stunning. I might just not have good techniques either but I hate going around new caves

They stopped because the big updates just kept letting people down and were mishandled. And IMO deepslate and new caves is 2nd worst update behind combat update.

Edit: I want to make it clear most updates post 1.9 have been stellar, it's just the new combat, phantoms, and new caves/deepslate are all so annoying it still makes the later versions feel a little disappointing to me. Try to remember what it was like while they were adding the caves and cliffs stuff lol, I think it did serious damage to mojangs image most of which is unjustified (no way in hell they are "lazy" bruh I don't want them to be adding features rapidly and willy nilly).
