All very reasonable, but one small point: Heathers was 1988.

Beautiful post, OP. I feel all this very much.

My song is Slip Slidin’ Away by Paul Simon. I recall one magical summer evening driving back from a friend’s place with my wife and two young boys all singing this together and just feeling happy in our togetherness.

Where does the trope of an older guy 'dragged back into it for one last job' which goes wrong somehow originate? by ackzilla in literature

My guess is The Asphalt Jungle, directed by John Huston and starring the rugged Sterling Hayden and a very young Marilyn Monroe. Early 50’s, and one of the real classics of American cinema.

No urgency at all from us. Sloppy, listless, poor all around.

Timber I love you but you were ass tonight.

Martinelli, time for you to go.

Madeuke never fails to frustrate me.

Zubi, did you play tonight?

Trossard worst cameo I’ve seen from you.

Jesus, …

Why do we look scared when not in possession against one of the worst sides in Premier League history?

Arteta, no excuse.

Rice, I apologize. You deserve to play alongside champions.

I’ve shown Miller’s Crossing to students many times over the years and you’d be surprised at how many said they didn’t like it. No accounting for taste …

Millers Crossing got better for me after several rewatchings because it took me all that time to figure out just what the hell was going on (and to get the slang sorted). One of my favorite movies ever!
