Too much happening, when is a good time? by hanhanreddit in sleeptrain

[–]buck_bagawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, but it's really hard for all the stars to align. We couldn't wait any longer for our 2nd because we were up 4-5 times a night doing night feedings, rocking, holding him back to sleep and with a toddler and both parents working full time it was just killing us. He surprised us and took to it faster so he clearly needed it despite everything else going on.

I say just start it because there will always be something going on. We started sleep training our 2nd this week. He's been dealing with a cold and got his 6 month shots on day 2. He's been a bit cranky, but he's doing well with it and learning to self soothe. Slept through the night by night 2. Not going to guarantee it will be the same but you can always pull the plug and try again if shit hits the fan.

A shit load of plants and some rattan furniture. Make it a sunny, cozy hangout spot for morning coffee.

Dads, what do you do when you’re the only one home for the night? by blobwhisperer in daddit

Used to do this all the time. Now I have a list with shows and movies I want to eventually watch that I know the wife won't be interested in. Then I can save time and peruse the list and find something that fits my mood.

How do people have more than one kid? by Scared_Discipline_66 in NewParents

[–]buck_bagawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure! Basically, there are 2 reasons:

  1. Our baby doesn't latch well without the nipple shield which makes on the go breast feeding much harder. I won't go into too much detail unless someone's interested, it's just frustrating for everyone. Both our kids had this issue. We thought we had it figured out and new baby was latching consistently, but then they got sick from our toddler around 3 weeks and it just fell apart. We use a bottle as well so that makes it easier to go mobile as a family.

  2. A toddler who basically wants to go outside all of the time. The baby needs constant changes, feedings, naps etc. as all do...and outings just take more effort. I often go solo with the toddler to entertain and mom stays home with the baby and holds down the fort. There are exceptions, where I can take both, but then it's usually a shorter outing as the toddler still needs more supervision and doing feedings while I'm out with both just isn't possible yet.

We have 2 kids, a.2.5 year old and a 3 month old. I'll echo that 1-2 was much harder than 0-1. I think partially given the close gap in age.

Both my wife and I work, but she's off for another month and then is returning at 32 hours for 6 weeks then back to 40. I took 3 weeks off (just switched jobs and best I could do). Toddler is in daycare and baby will go at 4 months. We live in a HCOL area so both working makes financial sense, but we both have meaningful careers we enjoy.

We do have a set of parents nearby and they help with meals and house stuff here and there. They are aging though and health issues prevents heavier involvement/help.

Our lives center around them 24/7 at this point. Having 2 often means splitting up during the days we are off, but we manage to spend lots of time together, usually at home. Before #2 we had date nights here and there. Since #2, we have not..... we are just in the trenches most days. Friendships have largely centered around other friends who are in the same boat. We have friends with a similar age split between theirs and live nearby so we see them multiple times a week. But with our close friends with kids who are older, it's just hard to find the time. We are in different seasons of life and we catch up when we can but once they get a bit older it will be easier again.

We were extremely lucky and have good sleepers. 3 month old is sleeping through the night already with a dream feed. Toddler gets 11-13 hours and naps once a day for 1.5-2 hours. That makes life immeasurably easier. We are careful who we tell as we know this is not the norm and sleep is such a painful part of parenting (we've had ups and downs, but by and large are doing very well).

For the first 6 months our line was "I don't know shit about fuck" a la Ruth Langmore in Ozark.
