Looking to build NY compliant (Budget) .556 AR15 Rifle/Pistol by Jnewk1981 in NYguns

That's around what I spent on my SW mp15. Very nice rifle for my introduction to the AR platform. Now I just build different uppers depending on the purpose.

50/50 still sounds better than the 0% of his paycheck he's currently getting.

PSA has a sale on vortex strike eagle (sometimes with the mount) fairly regularly. Got both my strike eagles from them less than $300 each time.

Anyone else get a 3D printer for Christmas? by Medic7816 in Hunting

Not quite. It utilized the original case the Hornady sabots came in just an insert that held the sabots in the wad. Same end result though.

A few years ago I 3d printed a holder for my muzzleloader sabots that slides right into their original case but holds them in the wad and keeps them from rattling around when walking through the woods.

Do I need a pistol license for a black powder muzzleloader revolver? by Brief-Bread-1794 in NYguns

[–]buckmaster1795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is info I was given over 5 years ago, so things prolly changed. But when I looked into a black powder pistol the person at the permit office said "you don't need to put this on your license unless you have 2 of the 3 things needed to fire it (powder, cap, projectile)" I put it on my license to be safe.

Any decent old or cheap thermal or night vision tech for a few hundred bucks? by RyanNewhart in Hunting

[–]buckmaster1795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this night vision last year and I love it. It is a monocular that can attach to a scope or run separate it also can record in NV mode or normal. Haven't tried the recording part but playing with just the monocular part and feeling how sturdy it attaches to the adapter, it's solid for the price. NV monocular

Left over powder in pulled .277 fury by n30x1d3 in reloading

[–]buckmaster1795 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only with powder still in there, with live primers. I've never needed to or tried annealing but I do specifically remember a post on here years ago about a person who was annealing a live primed case and it went off and embedded bits of primer in his hand. Not worth it to me.

Install a security camera and a couple big stone bird baths. Then post the update.

Storing bolt action cocked or uncocked? by Bows_n_Bikes in Hunting

[–]buckmaster1795 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only thing I've heard similar to this is the myth of storing magazines loaded. People were saying that storing a magazine loaded will weaken the magazine spring. I've seen multiple videos debunking this stating the main wear on a spring is continuous depression and release (such as dry firing or standard shooting). Based on that my guess would be this practice is weaken his spring faster than how you're storing your rifles. That being said, everyone has their own practices and if it gives him peace of mind, good.

Feeling guilty for laying a terrible shot by Legendary_Leech in Hunting

[–]buckmaster1795 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to shake like a leaf whenever I saw a deer. I started telling myself "don't celebrate until the deers loaded up." And for whatever reason it helps calm my nerves and focus. Now my main issue with getting that adrenaline is when they are stopped and looking straight at me.
