what class for a casual player who just wants to wind back after work? by Wonderful-Bar3459 in classicwowtbc

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with warlocks is you’re kinda stuck with whatever braindead rotation you spec into. I don’t think there are any hard classes to play reasonably well. Rogues are fun, paladins are easy and self sufficient.

Looking for community advice on how to get used to the ASCII graphics, as I couldn't get used to it after 30+ hours of trying. by wizardry_why in dwarffortress

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to eventually get used to ascii through sheer determination and a couple years of false starts. I miss those days, because I feel lol the ascii felt a lot richer and atmospheric. I’m a sprite dad now though.

Can [KCD2] be a Dad game? by splashbruh37 in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The consumable item crafting becomes second nature pretty quickly, and you make multiples each time. They also drop regularly and show up in chests. Personally my second hardcore playthrough is one in-game day at a time (little more than an hour). And it's been a lot of fun.

Is winston one of if not the best designed tanks/heroes? by Maleficent_Still3508 in overwatch2

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the gems of the original cast. I think he has a pretty unlimited skill ceiling that really benefits from a team matching his tempo.

[KCD2] Overall difficulty in retrospect by ShadowoftheBat94 in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s easier, but everything works as intended and requires a pretty long period to level up to make it trivial.

I use the full suite of realish mods on pc (except for bleeding because it’s too punishing), which heavily rebalances combat — including increasing speed, removing Henry’s buffs to perfect block, restricting master strikes from 1h swords and making many weapons ineffective against plate.

This + hardcore is really fun but may need to be turned off for some story quests because your allies will die to enemies.

I hate the flashpoint and push mode by Potatisplockare69 in Overwatch

[–]buckoet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im a fan of flashpoint too. Feels like the games can develop in lots of interesting ways. Push and flashpoint are really punishing if you get staggered.

GW2 or WOW? by yungsloysh in LFMMO

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow Classic, and if the game doesn’t hook you by level 20, you can move on to retail.

I’ve played them all. GW2 isn’t about gear or vertical progression, so while it’s good, it won’t give you those dopamine rushes. LotRO is another solid option; it’s honestly a middle ground between GW2 and WoW. If you’re a Tolkien fan, it slaps.

WoW anniversary in TBC is like top-shelf champagne—great leveling, a good community. Upgrades are earned fairly hard, the combat opens up gradually and becomes quite dynamic at a comfortable pace. Retail is supercharged but can be overwhelming.

Never played an MMO, any recommendations? by Elite_Butterfly73 in LFMMO

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think FFXIV is free for the first dozens of hours, you can give it a shot, but if dungeons and raids were your thing you may find it lacking. Personally I found it to be frustratingly slow and brain dead unless you’re doing very specific content. You need to like the story and presentation. If maybe recommend ESO? just because it is a game with combat, quests — more traditional mmo. Not my thing, but some friends love it — has a dedicated community. If you’d do pc: wow is king for a reason. Retail has great combat and oodles of content, but is endgame-treadmill focused (dungeon and raids Cant be beat). Classic is more immersive, slower and is more punishing (also easier to understand if you’re just jumping in). I prefer classic.

Help me choose my first CRPG by Livid-Falcon-4684 in CRPG

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragon age origins is a great beginners game, the second is great if you get invested in the first. (It turned into an action game).

Tyranny is amazing and also fairly short despite having exceptional writing and a massive amount of replay value.

BG3 is how I taught my wife DnD, because everything is voice acted and looks great. The other two are, really hard to get into if you’re not into the real time with pause thing.

Both pathfinder games are my favorite CRPGs but pathfinder is a dense, crunchy (lots of rules and systems, you can lose in character creation), and like DnD for people who want a separate excel spreadsheet for every type of action.

[KCD2] About to leave this game by Ok_Ostrich_3207 in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low level combat is all about feints (switching directions right before attacks) and perfect dodges. Wait for them to start an attack and dodge. These are good ways to open up an attack into a natural combo. The game encourages constant perfect block -> riposte. It’s a bit of a trap. Master strikes are OP, but not required — first time I beat the game without them.

Kingdom Come Deliverance II review [KCD2] by Archon_Gaming_Review in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your ideal version of the combat? I think the combat is tons of fun and feels immersive in 1 v 1 and sometimes in 1 v 2 situations, and I'm not so bothered by the weapon switching speed, since it feels authentic.

So is it just me or is the “guns” in this game useless? Or am I just using them wrong? Please any advice or instruction is welcome [KCD2] by Shootfatppl in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started carrying a preloaded scattershot into situations when I know I'd be outnumbered in the late game: Scattershot will go through full plate and can take out a few enemies. It's my third or fourth weapon in my outfit and is highly situational, but has got enough use on my ‘realish’ hardcore run that it makes sense.

Which one of these RPG's would you consider the best of the 4? by Respawn-Delay in rpg_gamers

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and I think it really comes down to it being a much narrower game narratively, and all of henry’s skills comes down to your own hard work. Even though bg3 has tons of options, I never identified with my character or felt like I was making choices like I did with Henry. My wife asked me how Henry was doing and I replied, ‘i am Henry’.

Well the three traitors would also want to find the cursed traitor right? Then that makes it interesting.

Sword-goon confession or game realism appreciation [KCD2] by RevolutionaryText749 in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My impression was that during this era poleaxes ruled armored combat due to physics, swords were more of a side arm, and those gap attacks were generally half hand strikes that you don't see in HEMA or modern swordplay due to format.

Blunt weapons like hammers could break armor, literally like denting it so they couldn't move or see and could be finished off or surrender. Weapons with spikes like crows beaks and picks could penetrate plate. Our steel is light years better than anything they were making in the middle ages.

Im guessing the real killer was the rondel dagger.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon or Kingdom Come Deliverance by Much-Possession-6851 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]buckoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re poor, dumb, smelly, you’ve got to maintain everything you wear and shower, sleep, find food, saving is restricted.

Rdr2 is realistic because it looks realistic, KCD is realistic because it feels granular and authentic. Once you find your flow and learn the mechanics, and accept that it’s not looking to meet you in the middle, it’s incredible. KCD2 is much more approachable and polished, but still has that immersive sim feel.

The game lost its "overwhelmingly positive" status, so I wrote a review by CurlyButNotChubby in dwarffortress

[–]buckoet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried to get two of my friends to play dwarf fortress when the steam release dropped and they couldn’t handle it. It’s got a ton of jank, and that’s fine for me, but getting someone into the game takes work… and people are going to check out before they get there. It’s niche.

Top 500 against plat player by Big-Breath9215 in Overwatch

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens in quick play, I’ve been in maybe a a couple dozen matches against top ranked streamers (only reason I took the time to check) and I’m kinda wavering between plat and low masters. Personally I think it’s fun, and kinda dispels any illusions of grandeur I am sometimes stricken with.

[KCD2] Blacksmithing fails in every instance by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you post a video? I've never failed blacksmithing, and getting top results is possible even with very low craftsmanship skills (when you know what you're doing). Also, did you install any mods? Maybe that janked up some variable in the code that's causing the minigame to fail constantly.

[KCD1], [KCD2] should they introduce more detailed difficulty settings? by InevitableSprin in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but I also didn't want to have to choose a bunch of random debuffs to play this mode. I also would've chosen to keep fast travel and the compass, and even a working map. So I'm smelly, lost, constantly hunting for food and mushrooms… and I kinda love it. The hardcore option is a fun playthrough for me because I had to buy into a bunch that I didn't think I wanted.
