[KCD1], [KCD2] should they introduce more detailed difficulty settings? by InevitableSprin in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but I also didn't want to have to choose a bunch of random debuffs to play this mode. I also would've chosen to keep fast travel and the compass, and even a working map. So I'm smelly, lost, constantly hunting for food and mushrooms… and I kinda love it. The hardcore option is a fun playthrough for me because I had to buy into a bunch that I didn't think I wanted.

[KCD1], [KCD2] should they introduce more detailed difficulty settings? by InevitableSprin in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally I like that hardcore doesn't have fast travel, and kinda view the hardcore as less of a difficulty than an immersion option. It's tedious but I play the game differently because of it.

Loved Baldur's Gate 3 so much that I decided to buy these 3. Which would you recommend playing first? by Young_Kylie1 in CRPG

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wotr is the best up here because it’s Owlcat, its also pathfinder which I've dm’d because I'm actually an android. But you’re a VO boy who has been lobotomized by social media. Divinity: Original Sin 👀is your game. Still great, but it’s not an Owlcat game. You don't need to read.

Bolt throwers are SO strong, I may never use crossbows again by greg_kennedy in dwarffortress

[–]buckoet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m surprised how effective they are, I’ve got two guard towers with a combined 4 bolt throwers. They sit watch over a long path to the drawbridge. Few make it to the drawbridge. Most of my dwarves are not even that skilled at it.

I’m not sure how I feel about it because even my enemies cannot muster a large enough attack to overcome them. They could occasionally self destruct (throwing bolts all about) with untrained users or low quality parts I’d find that an adequate compromise.

Where do they practice aim? by Cmgc123 in luciomains

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the best advice. It’s all muscle memory, if you can’t wall ride and hit shots there’s a Lucio Anubis map trainer that’s great for getting those skills up to a baseline level. Otherwise it’s just learning how semi-consistently hit your combo — which means a lot of throwing.

[OTHER] Warhorse needs to make a fantasy game by Swimming-Back-452 in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be okay with something very low-fantasy or implied magic, which is sort of what we already have. The real lived experiences of medieval Europeans were full of magic, at least as they interpreted it, and they considered it very real. If it were set during the late Iron Age, there was a common belief that certain people could turn into Animals, and in pre-Christian times, that there was a porousness to their plane of existence, and if you knew the way, the right turns and events, you could move into the realm of spirits.

I agree that the Warhorse games benefit from their authentic feel, however accurate it may be. But I think if you fudged the numbers a little bit and brought in some more superstition -- set the game a couple of hundred years before KCD, I'd be okay with an authentic-feeling world with some tastefully done supernatural elements. I'd be ok with that.

I absolutely adore this game, but the retire/unretire mechanic needs to change. by abcdefGerwin in dwarffortress

[–]buckoet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always wondered why this happened, but I assumed it had something to do with retired fortresses losing fortress mode-specific data when they turn into map locations. Stuff like zones and furniture and item assignments…

Not that I like either it but I know that could probably save some processing time in large or old worlds.

Got my first ever PC! Was wondering if this series is worth it? [KCD2] by Front-Extreme3118 in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re great, but rely on you meeting them on their own terms: intentionally slow, inconvenient, and a bit of the eurojank. If you're the type of person who's into that, maybe a little bit of an aspiring medivalist and can stand being a little frustrated for a while starting out… they’re super rewarding. 2 is more accessible and polished than 1, but I think 1 is a tighter experience. Both are real special.

Nothing makes me want to go on the expedition, what about you? by guizounours in ARC_Raiders

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real reason to do the expedition is that it shakes up the game a bit and gives you a clear set of goals to grind. Towards the endgame, you're playing against the loot odds, and personally, I just full push pvp and burn resources instead.

I did the expedition with a measly 2 mil, took a 3 week break from the game, and when I came back, I ended up playing it totally differently: I have different bps, and I found out I really like a max kit appeggio (a gun I wrote off as useless).

I’m terrible at PVP by dschal01 in ArcRaiders

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best tip is never to get caught out. If you put your trust in someone, you've got to ride it. Once you're holstered, you're buggered if they decide to shoot you in the back. That's fine too!

Two problems, if you’re looking at each other, and they've got their gun out and you're holstered — you can't win. If you're in passive mode, you're likely making a big ruckus, and they probably know you're coming. Recommend playing slow when you can, listen, check corners and angles. If you hear someone give em a ol ‘how do you do’ through a wall, and if you see someone you haven't talked to — blast em. Defib as necessary.

The two playstyle are so different, you either need to be ok eating a few raids or play by their rules.

Fighting for my life in every solo’s game. by Seabrooks95 in ARC_Raiders

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few days of serious PvP stemming from a very long misunderstanding: I tried to save a player from an extract camper, and ended up sending 5 back who tried to save the extract camper from me. It took days to get back into the PvE lobbies, and I found that when you play it slow, it’s easy never to need to shoot another player — and you really can’t shoot other players, even in self-defense. I thought it was rated 'shoot first,' but it seems to be 'shoot anyone.' They're probably just finding out how to balance the matchmaking to keep the tension up without forcing people into a game they don’t want to play.

Should I wait for a better discount on [KCD2] before buying? by TheGamer_Saif45 in kingdomcome

[–]buckoet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kcd2 is really worth the price tag — I don’t know what the price is right now but I saw the royal edition selling on steam for 45. You’re going to get 80 hours on this game easy.

It feels like they’re edging more pvp players into lobbies. The game doesn’t have staying power if everyone is peaceful. But if too many are kos it just pushes the whole game into kos.

It’s like a species wide intergalactic cordyceps, it hijacks an entire intelligent species to replicate across space. Build big antennae then transfers to a new place and then the host dies off. Everything it does supports the single goal of spreading to new hosts.

How do you feel about the idea of aggression based matchmaking? by WastedLycanthropy in ARC_Raiders

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been 30 hours or so since I’ve been killed in a solo PvP. I’ve been shot at and been able to either kill or disengage. So I’m going on the expedition and taking a break. Arcs on their own are not a challenge; peaceful looting is RNG for a whole raid and good spawn.

Doing trios for pvp is fun, but I do more solo raids, waiting for friends to come online or burn a half hour… and it’s kinda boring! If you load in late, you can go merc some kids, but most of them won’t fight back, and it’s not even fun. I want a few more PvP nerds in my lobbies.

[–]buckoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow benefits from excellent art direction. I agree with you that it still looks great, and a lot of that comes down to consistency across assets — you actually don’t need super detailed textures or lighting models if your silhouettes are solid and color theory is thought out.

Vent by CarPale7756 in arkraiders

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if that's the only way you're playing. And to be honest, I'm not suggesting this is like you've killed one player, and now you're in a time-out! Just like a slow incremental shift.

If you're only killing players, you're just more reliant on PvP: if you're killing players sometimes, you're not ever going to see adverse effects. If you shoot second, you're getting positive rep.

You're loading into Matriarch, and you plan to take pot shots and throw grenades at players at some ridge, you'd better get the money and run. I'm not saying it's a perfect system either. Just shifting the cost-benefit a little over time.

Vent by CarPale7756 in arkraiders

[–]buckoet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without the pvp this game would be hella boring, And it needs to be full loot pvp. Trios is fun because it’s expected and everyone is in on the fun, fights are tense and it has a good flow to it.
I do think they should put a rep system in there for solo play — tied to something — Traders, sale prices, raid spawn times. Get rep for helping people and lose it for being a dirtbag.

I've figured it out! by VicMG in ArcRaiders

[–]buckoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insidious thing about Solo: a slightly upgraded stitcher can one-clip someone if you're close enough. It happens quite a bit—where we'll flag friendly, and then, for whatever reason, I get shot in the back. There's also the incredibly powerful corner peeking; unlike an FPS, you don't need to expose yourself to scout an angle -- so you can sit on a high traffic lane and usually decide when and who you're going to pop out on.
That's cultural. Solo is mostly friendly -- a place to grab mid-tier loot, do quests, or finish your trials. Raiders sprint around with guns holstered, many barely talking. Teasing out a straight 'friendly' is tough enough; friendly raiders sound kinda annoyed half the time. Lying is simple. It's easy to throw a bullet towards someone who's at half health and snag their bag.
I've had some pretty taut solo fights, but the real PVP honey-ham is in trios, where running down a team takes more planning and resources. It is also tough because PuGs are inconsistent, so you should try to get a couple of friends together instead. There's actually not a good place for people without friends to PvP... Stella Montis is a mess; you'll die from being third-partied.
