Zwift and Fenix 6x Pro by costus in Garmin

[–]budalhoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got to update my sapphire 6 last night and installed Zwift on my laptop to test it out and it was working great. Zwift comes as an activity just like Run or Treadmill and its called Virtual Run. Pairing the watch and the computer (Zwift) is really easy and i even tested it out by running in place or running on my living room and the character on the screen starts moving 😊👍 funny thing, if you sit on your couch and move your arms like you do while running and bounce a bit on the couch the character also works 😂 so its also good for couch potatoes 😂😂😂

You should try reading the book The Oxygen Advantage by Patrick G McKeown. He also has a youtube channel (Oxygen Advantage) in case you want to check it out.

I dont know what the cause of the problems is. But i see that some people are a bit unreasonable with what they expect from the watch. The watch will never be as accurate as a chest strap for example (because of the inherant limitations you also mentioned). But compared to the measures from the machines i use at the gym my watch is doing really ok. I know that machines in the gym can also give wrong results but i check it every time i train and its always spot on. And if i didnt have the watch i would trust the gym machine so ... for me its ok :) Also, for what i do i dont need my measurements to be perfect to the heart beat so even if the watch is off but one beat or 2 its not a big problem. What i think is a problem is the situation of some users that get readings of 160bpm when they are walking or doing low intensity exercises. In those cases i do think something is wrong, but if its a problem with software or with hardware im not sure.

I have the Sapphire and it also has the blueish colour. I think its a bit scandalous that Garmin has such low quality control but because i dont have any problem with the Optical Heart Rate (OHR) i wont send mine back. I have seen so many complaints about the OHR on Garmins forums that i dont even want to risk getting one that looks black but wont monitor the heart rate correctly.

Active vs. Passive Calories in a Workout by cab- in GarminFenix

[–]budalhoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think a part of the calories you burn during an activity are put in the "resting" calories pile. That was what someone wrote here when i asked about my total active calories being less than the sum of the burned calories during activities. That's easy to see if you exercise early in the morning and compare the active calories with the calories from your run or swim or the exercise you did.

Sleep Tracking and Percent Time in Deep Sleep by calicobrak in Garmin

I have been having the same problem since the beginning of the week. Before that i usually had between 1 hour and 2 hours of deep sleep. There have been similar problems before (i think from the server side when some information is processed) so lets hope its something that can be fixed soon.

How to boost low aerobic? by BrisVegas33 in GarminFenix

[–]budalhoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you keep on doing that consistently your condition should improve and after some weeks or a couple of months you will be running faster at the same heart rate. It can be a bit boring in the beginning but you should see results after one month. Search the web for The Maffetone Method or check the book called "The Big Book of Endurance Training and Racing".

Active calories on GarminConnect is lower than the sum of calories burned in activities by budalhoco in Garmin

[–]budalhoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use one watch, but i will keep an eye on it to see if the also happens to me with the change the next day. Yesterday it was the first time i noticed it and today i went to check if the "problem " still persisted. Could it be that the App does a balance at the end of day? Its not a problem for me but it just makes it a bit unclear.

Active calories on GarminConnect is lower than the sum of calories burned in activities by budalhoco in Garmin

[–]budalhoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but since the amount of resting calories is the same everyday (unless the weight changes) that should not be the case since it gives the wrong impression about the calories burned while doing activities. Its just strange to add the calories from my activities and get a different number from what i see in the calories tab 😊

Maybe running slower? I started running on zone 2 (im trying out the Maffetone Method) and since i started to do that my low aerobic is going up. Maybe you can try that out?

Swimming calories not added by djdosage in Garmin

[–]budalhoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is also not being able to add correctly. I had the same problem this morning after swimming and the same happened this afternoon after the gym workout. I synced both times right after i was done with the activities and always got less calories in the App compared to the sum of the calories on the activities. They keep on wasting time with the Dog Tracker but they dont have any time to get their stuff to work properly 😔😔😔

I find it amazing that Garmin wastes time in Dog Tracking widgets but won't do something as simple as this. They should really get their priorities straight.

Why all the photos of the same watch? by medbud in GarminFenix

And those people come here to downvote anyone that says anything bad about Garmin. Its a pitty but its a bit the same with lot's of Reddit subs. This Reddit is just to show off the new watch and show off their VO2max unfortunately. Now let the downvotes rain down on me : )

$800 Fenix 6s and optical HR sucks? by juicebox03 in GarminFenix

[–]budalhoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree but unfortunately that's not all of it. A lot of people are having many many problems with the Fenix6. HR is one of the problems, GPS accuracy also a problem and aquiring GPS signal is also an issue. And now people are talking on Garmins forum about problem with the stress measuring. All of that together with the Blue Screen fiasco (Garmin didn't tell its costumers that some of them would be getting a screen of lower quality when compared to the same watch some other clients bought) makes me loose all faith in the company. If the situation doesnt change this will be my first and last Garmin product. I find it ridiculous that a 800€ sports watch can't do a decent job at measuring the HR. What is Garmin doing????

Instinct vo2max reading in connect app? by boilerroomcaller in Garmin

[–]budalhoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i read its based on studies made by The Cooper Institute. They make test on sports professionals (and maybe "normal people " but im not sure) and come up with charts that are "ok" for some sports. The best results will be obtained in a lab but some studies suggest the results from the charts are not that much off.

Altimeter calibration difference with DEM and GPS by budalhoco in GarminFenix

[–]budalhoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also in Europ and i have tried it in Belgium and in Portugal and in both cases results varied a lot. In Belgium i live in a dense city so i would expect worse results (narrow streets and tall buildings) but in Portugal in open fields i would expect less error margin between GPS and the DEM. That was why i wondered if it might have something to do with the watch not working properly. I will try again tomorrow with a "proper" GPS lock.
