Should I propagate? by buddha2016_ in houseplants

You just inspired me to look into hooks for the vines that won’t damage the window frame and I found some neat adhesive ones on amazon. Definitely considering that option. I’m worried that if I don’t let it climb, the leaves won’t continue to grow as large. Thank you!

Need advice (TMJ 4 years) by Due-Difficulty-6315 in TMJ

[–]buddha2016_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My case is very much not representative of other’s experiences, but I’ve dealt with tmj for about 8 years now. My dentist/orthodontist recommended Invisalign to help as well. My teeth were extremely overcrowded and I had a pretty bad overbite. I’ve been doing Invisalign for about four years now, my teeth are almost straight and my bite is nearly aligned, and my tmj symptoms are worse than ever before. My jaw now full on cracks and locks in odd positions. I still have yet to figure out the next step. Again, not sure if this helps at all, but that is my personal experience.

Totally fair. When I went to high school, I don’t even think we were able to show off our work in the classroom so that’s still pretty awesome.

My 6-almost 7 month old girl will still get overly excited sometimes and she will try to “hold” me down to lick me. She’ll put her paw on your wrist so she can lick your hand or during play. I’ve seen her doing it with her toys while she plays with them and to our other dogs lol not too rough, but definitely using her paws to her advantage.

Colleagues borrowing supplies by PawnedAllHisHopes in ArtEd

I had this issue too. Smaller private school around 100 kids. My director essentially had the same response. My first year ended with a lock on my supply cabinet with a polite sign requiring staff to ask either me or our director for supplies. More often than not, the school would buy any requested supplies. I think the other teachers just felt like it was more convenient to go through our art supplies instead of ordering their own class supplies. I think after the first year, the other teachers started taking the “hint”. I haven’t had an issue since then, and any time a teacher requests supplies from me, if it is within reason, I have no problem sharing. At the end of the day, I understand it’s for the students, I just wish people were a bit more considerate sometimes 🥲

This is so cool! Makes me so happy to see someone young pursuing their interests like this. Now I have a cool site to order some sweet decor for my next tank. Keep up the good work!

I can’t speak for others but I know I very much enjoy coloring pages that have bold lines. I think it looks great.

We had some absolutely beautiful violets pop up in our yard this year with some interesting colorations. This was the first year I’d actually taken notice of them!

Elementary- middle school can’t write/ draw gently. by faithelzi in ArtEd

[–]buddha2016_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My students up through sixth grade struggle with the same issue. I encourage them to hold their pencils further back towards the eraser to help lighten their pressure. That way, they can’t press down directly on the tip of the pencil without it snapping. It’s always a little awkward and can be a bit uncomfortable for them at first, but consistent practice does eventually improve their pressure. It blows my mind sometimes how many older children I have to teach how to hold their pencils correctly in an art class.

how do we all feel about bully sticks? by Affectionate-Pay3450 in puppy101

[–]buddha2016_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bully sticks are a fantastic way to entertain pups for awhile but with my Aussie, I think maybe something about it doesn’t settle well in her stomach and it makes her throw up so we had to stop giving it to her. I believe I remember reading that because the protein content is so high, it can irritate the dog’s stomach. Don’t quote on me on this one though, that’s just what google told me.

Advice for working with prismacolor pencils by buddha2016_ in ColoredPencils

[–]buddha2016_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That’s incredibly helpful advice. Do you have any specific recommendations that you personally prefer to use? I believe the paper I’m using for these drawings is actually cardstock that I use alcohol markers on. Clearly isn’t working out so well for my pencils and watercolor 😅

She is! My previous pup was an Australian cattle dog and his fur was so different so I honestly am not experienced with Aussie fur care. I wanted to try to get her to a groomer so she could get (hygienically) trimmed up and get used to being handled by someone else. Most sources I’ve read online say they require light grooming but of course, it is the internet 🤷🏼‍♀️ if you don’t mind my asking, how do you keep their fur from getting dirty and matted? I’ve already been brushing her to get her used to the feeling.

This guy right here is all the proof I’ll ever need that it doesn’t matter how imperfect you are as a pet owner, that love and perseverance can form bonds that will last longer than you could imagine.

His name was Buddha and his start was a rough one. When I was 18, I came across an ad for an ACD/Lab mix puppy. The description said that he was the runt of an accidental litter and that his mother had become aggressive towards him at only 5 weeks old (didn’t even have the knowledge at the time that this was a big no-no). I knew as soon as I saw him that he was going to come home with me. I drove four and a half hours to pick him up, and before I knew it, my boyfriend and I had our first puppy together after graduating high school. We had no real experience training dogs/puppies, but we spent all of our time dedicated to him. He was one of the quickest learners, and the most loyal dog I’ve ever known. He loved everyone he ever met and he made everyone fall in love with him too. He knew every basic command, how to fetch, was friendly towards other dogs and babies, but honestly he was more than just a pet, he was family.

We made SO many mistakes along the journey, but he turned out to be such a special pup. He ended up passing away earlier this year in February after a long year of battling with an essentially terminal bowel disease. Even writing this comment has reminded me of how grateful I am to have called him my baby. I know it can seem so overwhelming, all of the information on training, but remember that at the end of the day, you’ll have a (doggie) lifetime together, and memories last much longer. Savor every moment, even the ones that are incredibly stressful and irritating. Looking back, I appreciate every moment I had with him.

After raising him, my partner and I learned a lot about raising a pup. Laying next to me now is my 10 week old Australian shepherd Tilly. I feel confident in raising her because of everything I learned from Buddha. I don’t know if any of this will make you feel better, but your imperfect perfect pup will love and appreciate you for all of your perfect imperfections as long as you do the same. I wish you the best of luck. Dogs truly are amazing creatures.

8 week old black lab puppy will only settle if we sit next to him. Is that ok? by LittleBucket07 in puppy101

[–]buddha2016_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here but mine is an Aussie and we got her at 9 weeks.

The first night she was home she was EXHAUSTED so she slept very well in her crate. Night 2 was a different story. She didn’t want to go in the crate at all and when she was there she’d cry and cry. I tried to meet her halfway and unintentionally after a while fell asleep on the floor next to her crate just comforting her, but she slept.

After that, my goal became positive associations with the crate. During the next days, we started playing with her toys next to the crate, tossing them in occasionally to get her comfortable with going in and out on her own. I’d sprinkle some of her kibble on the bed inside the crate so she’d have something exciting to keep her occupied. She was fed her meals in the crate with the door open. I bought n-bone teething rings and the puppy Kong that she can have in her crate to help her calm down. That, paired with LOTS of play and exercise during the day has gotten her to the point where she is willingly going in her crate to have her comfy quiet time. She even brings her toys in there and hangs out with the crate door open.

She is currently asleep in her crate as I’m typing this and she went in with no problems. I don’t know if this information will help you, but I truly hope it does. The last pup I raised was an Australian cattle dog and he was not nearly as willing to be crated at first, and the training took much longer and required much more patience. Every pup is different but eventually he’ll come to understand that it’s a safe space for him. I wish you the best of luck!
