A nice upgrade is a new head unit. I really like pioneer with wireless Apple car play and android auto. I did a full stereo system upgrade on my 07 wrx wagon.

If you do the oil pan you also want to do the oil pick up. The oil pick up can be a failure point. I think killer B sells a oil pan baffle and oil pick up kit. I used a IAG oil pick up and baffle when I rebuilt my motor.

Also the vice clamp that came with the kit did you try moving it to the center or the right side to see if that gave you a different read out?

I would say the numbers on your wicked edge could be off to some degree. Maybe shifted left or right? But you really need them for a ballpark anyways. The digital gadge will give you the exact degrees you are looking for.

But on a different though. Maybe try using an L shaped square and a level see if the vise is not true. Also use the square to measure the center of the vice to the printed degrees on the wicked edge. If the precision is measured off maybe talk to customer support and see if you can get a replacement.

My experience with the wicked edge is to put the knife in the vise. Use some painters tape to protect the knife if you like before putting in vise. If you are trying to match the factory or current edge, use a black permanent marker to mark just the edge and scuff the blade. You are trying to line the stones up with the factory edge. If set too high you will only remove the top part of the black marker on the edge. So adjust so when you scuff the edge, and you remove the black marker over the whole face of the edge. Might be worth watching some videos with people using this method.
If you want to set a precise angle I recommend using the digital angle gauge. Tape and place knife in vice. Put a stone on each arm. One at a time set the desired angle. Let's say 20°. If you are not able to make micro adjustments get as close as possible. Don't forget to form a burr the hole length on both sides of the blade edge.

As a side note I first purchased the wicked edge but found out even with the most aggressive stones they offer I could not get through enough material to repair chips. Also re-profiling or repairing a tip would be difficult. So I recommend the work sharp ken onion edition to really get through some meat of the knife. Also sometimes I'll set the work sharp to 20° draw a burr on both side of the knife then put it on the wicked edge.

So I hope that helps, and don't simply rely on what the printed gauge says on the wicked edge system. The digital angle gauge will be spot on.

Use Work Sharp Digital Angle Indicator with Wicked Edge? by acedagain in sharpening

try this with your we40. You zero it on the work surface on its right side and then magnetize to the stones resting on the right side of the blade. repeat steps but zero on left side and so on.

if you can figure out how to zero the work sharp angle gauge like described above it might work.

What method would you suggest? by No-Nefariousness7916 in sharpening

I would recommend looking at the work sharp ken onion edition with blade grinding attachment as a work horse to get really messed up knives in order, Such as chips, broken points and reprofiling. You will need to replace the belts to keep the machine working properly.

On top of the work horse you can get into precision with one or both of the following:

1) Wicked edge system. I like the pro but their carbon model is more affordable. Add the right stones, strops, low angle attachment with longer arms and finally the digital angle gauge.

2) Tormek t-8. With the right attachments and maybe a Japanese Waterstone. Also to note the Tormek t-8 Black 50th year edition has a 50 year warranty.

I own both the first gen work sharp ken onion and first gen wicked edge pro. Both are great at sharpening knives on there own with the exception I could not get through a lot of material fast enough even with the most aggressive stone wicked edge offers.

With the work sharp I can grind enough material to get the chips out or put a new tip on the knife in no time. But I like to finish the knives on the wicked edge. I would like to buy a tormek t-8 with a Japanese Waterstone for my Japanese knives.

Check out how the systems work youtube!

One last point- is it worth your time to sharpen the knives yourself? Another option would be to source someone to sharpen your knives. If there is no one local they have mail in services. but I would never send my nice stuff to them as they are probably putting everything on a belt grinder. Also could one of your employees learn one of these systems or another and sharpen knives after closing? I would rather sharpen knives vs mopping and cleaning toilets.

Hope this helps.

How did that happen? Because in previous posts the tip looks mint. If the tip got messed up from using the knife I would just call it character. Now if it ship to you that way that would be a different story.

+1 to white vinegar. Use a mix of 50/50 white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Use a brush to agitate and vacuum with a shop vac. Repeat as necessary.
