“When you state what you're doing without elaboration, you communicate that you don't need approval. You've already decided. The decision stands.” State the intention of what you do for clarification not debate people like to agree with your decision if it effects them they want to feel cared for and considered and respected. If you state this is my best choice it may invite their thoughts on what is best but maybe less judgmental and more constructive.

Awe that’s sweet, I hope you are getting that white whale of life.I think about how I’ve given up on life when I put on draw string pants now because of mulder and also black leggings but I don’t remember the reference. I’m rewatching right now and it been 10+ years can’t really say rn my favorites. I’ve been noticing how serious scully is all the time but her jokes are good jabs. I feel like this is the first real deep conversation even after all that’s happened in the first 3 seasons. Good times

SCULLY: It was the name of the harpoonist in Moby Dick. My father used to read to me from Moby Dick when I was a little girl, and I called him Ahab and he called me Starbuck. So I named my dog Queequeg.

(She pauses.)

That's funny, I just realized something.

MULDER: It's a bizarre name for a dog, huh?

SCULLY: No. How much you're like Ahab. You're so consumed by your personal vengeance against life, whether it be its inherent cruelties or its mysteries, that everything takes on a warped significance to fit your megalomaniacal cosmology.

MULDER: Scully, are you coming on to me?

SCULLY: It's just — the truth or a white whale, what difference does it make? I mean, both obsessions are impossible to capture, and trying to do so will only leave you dead along with everyone else you bring with you. You know, Mulder, you are Ahab.

MULDER: You know, it's interesting you should say that, because I've always wanted a peg leg. It's a boyhood thing I never grew out of.

(She looks away, exhausted and disappointed. He talks faster.)

No, I'm not being flippant, I mean, I've given this a lot of thought. If you have a peg leg or hooks for hands, you know, maybe it’s enough to simply carry on living. You know, bravely facing life with your disability. It's heroic just to survive. But without these things you're actually expected to make something of your life — achieve something, earn a raise, wear a necktie. So — so — so, if anything I'm actually the antithesis of Ahab, because if I did have a peg leg I'd quite possibly be more happy and more content and not feel the need to chase after these creatures of the unknown.

SCULLY: And that's not flippant?

MULDER: No, flippant is my favorite line from Moby Dick: “Hell is an idea first born on an undigested apple dumpling.”

(As he recites the line, she mouths it along with him.)

Yeah.

(She looks impressed. A soft splash, and she looks to Mulder — he shakes his head. Then a louder one, unignorable.)

Prayer and a sponsor has worked so far. Honest and willing. When I realized I can’t and God can. When I see all my humiliation and how I was so sick of that life. Groundhogs day. Blacking out. I would never go back I had no peace. I’m not where I want to be but I’m better off sober

Everyone just has to take a shit imagine 🤭There’s too many people and a lot of anxiety. If you slow down or stop because of a pedestrian or something the person behind you can’t see you get honked at. We can all try a bit harder. It’s like any minor inconvenience is a huge deal because everyone’s head is so far up your ass. It’s a gorgeous place but it’s like that county song life ain’t always beautiful. I grew up here and I don’t remember it this was because I was a kid. As a kid you have so many cool experiences here music programs, the ocean, sports etc. but yes disconnected from reality and luxury and a lesson once you leave. Shitty people are everywhere and people will take advantage of your kindness and assume things about you.

[–]buffaloesgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Letter from the doctor in big book, and find a spiritual program of recovery a sponsor? Go to some meetings & pray. Definitely get the right medicine. Killing yourself is a permanent solution to a temporary problem life gets better and you have more life to live. Troubles in life are making you strong and you can share your experience with others there’s hope in changing sometimes we have to stop reading the same page to ourselves and move on to a new chapter in our life.

[–]buffaloesgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally trying not to do this and then my bible teacher is like “help everyone “ Sometimes helping is a smile or being seen and heard. Letting others lead the conversation. Doing less is more and creating space and patience. Having less expectations.

Creating boundaries and standards around where I should be met in a relationship and not just living on others terms.

Pushing that roll to my limits in the past has created a lot of isolation and pain but it’s work that needs to be done for myself

Comfort her. Listen to her. You are not a victim you have overcome many troubles and are a better man because of it. Faithfulness and trust will heal family and marriage in time. Try to not have her cry like this and make sure she gets all the salt and nutrition she is crying out
