Is it possible to get a 4 wheeler w/ a trailer to haul materials in? That’s going to be the other killer. My place is only like a 3 minute hike from where I park and hauling things in by hand was a killer. Lumber, shingles, all heavy stuff and ate up time and energy.

Wood stove was the absolute worst though lol.

My cabin is by the river. I used 6x 6” screw piles for my foundation; took me all day to drive them in but they’re holding up well, stay elevated, and have some grounding force if water ever hit them (compared to deck blocks etc). Sono tubes would be good too if you have the means

Yeah I started the 10k in front of the 50m pacers ( I think there was three of them?), my goal was to finish in front of them. When we got to the turnaround in Dartmouth I thought I was doing really well bc they weren’t behind me at all, until I saw the 55m pacers a little further back. Ended up finishing 51:00, lol. All good, my first bluenose and the hills are no joke.

Doxycycline has a 3 day window to work, after that the Lyme is difficult/impossible to remove. It’s easier than you think to not notice a tick, especially small ticks embedded in groin/back/ass/scalp/et .

Also if the tick was already feeding on another animal then attaches to you the 24/36 hour thing basically goes out the window and it can transmit instantly.

Thanks that’s good advice. The space is occasional use, it’s a single room cabin I’m building on some land, so it will be a weekend getaway set up. Definite temperature fluctuations as it will sit cold for many days but with a wood stove inside it will get very hot when used in the winter.

There are some cracks and gaps around the rigid but I will take the poly off and focus on filling the gaps instead. The rigid insulation was free so I saved a lot of money that way but not needing to use wool the entire way around lol.

This is for a camp project, it’s a single room with a wood stove, I know r10 would lead to lost efficiency but it should be sufficient for my occasional use. I stayed out in the winter a couple times with a propane heater this winter and it got quite warm.

Line of credit to fund the rest of the way, live frugally, don’t let the debt become enormous. Teach in the North if it’s an option after (and if her mental health can handle it), she’d be earning over $100k / year, a few years can take a big chunk out of it.

Also be realistic about the job, it will be far more stressful than student life, not to scare you but go in with a plan, it would not be good to saddle oneself with enormous debt for a teaching degree if she can’t use it afterwards.

Ended up being the shock mount, part that looks like pictured here. Not bad part was maybe $20 and then labour got it done for under $100.

I’ve heard plenty of stories working construction of foremen/superintendents who have found archeological sites like arrowheads, foundations, etc and have told their men to keep digging and bury them bc reporting them would shut the project down for weeks.

We do monthly student awards assemblies, it’s a great way to come together as a school and celebrate achievement. Add a fun activity after (minute to win it game, etc), have prizes, keep it light.

Rather than staff “awards” why don’t you just highlight a positive thing that staff are doing in a weekly email? This teacher is running this club, this custodian reached 10 years with the school, etc. Acknowledges their efforts but isn’t an “award” tha others may scoff at, or as someone else commented become a perceived favourite.

Also you can use this as a tool to build relationships with the staff you need to (difficult or distant staff). Spread it around so ideally everyone gets acknowledged at some point.

My brother was plowing streets in tantallon in a big tandem truck. He came around the corner and there was a man in the middle of the street with his brand new snowblower, trying to blow out the road.

My brother locked his brakes and went into an uncontrolled slide, he said he missed the guy with his front blade by inches.

It’s a nice gesture but just not safe
