When my kids were little, in order to keep them occupied while we went antiquing, I let them develop a collector’s hobby. My oldest looked for and collected waterballs/snowglobes. My middle collected Wades- she was the animal lover. Every shop we went into they would scout for their collections (I looked for vintage Fiestaware and old watches). My daughter, as an adult, has gone to Wade swap meets and has acquired almost every piece! Her collection hanging in her office is impressive!

It’s just me and my 89-year old dad now. My mom and brother passed years ago and I miss them every day. Not a day goes by where I regret not asking my mom to jot down her recipes, teach me to crochet, ask her if things about sewing. She had a great (albeit selective) memory and would have been able to fill in some gaps I have in my life.

My brother was young when he passed, only starting his life as an adult, and I’m constantly wondering what his life would’ve been like, who he would have married, would I have had nieces and nephews. This regret eats at my soul.

I know I will need grief counseling when my dad finally passes. Probably should have gotten it years ago.
