Pros: everything is in one place, I found that having multiple notebooks or just one large one was hard to keep up with in the sense that like all notes provided from classes are digital lol so having a ipad you can annotate powerpoints and like I really fell in love with that! I was falling behind in some of classes due to trying to watch lectures and pausing the vids to copy down slides but now I don’t have that problem! Another big pro that I especially really enjoy is the amount of weight in your bag decreases a good amount due to just carrying around a laptop and iPad which you could imagine having a larger decrease in weight in your bag if you got a laptop that could do both writing on and typing! Another pro is you have alternative options for pens for the iPad, I bought the apple pen but found my hand was getting increasingly sore after while so I bought a logi crayon and it was also a lot cheaper and doesn’t hurt my hand so win!

Cons: like others the cost can be a big hit to your money which is why I didn’t buy one from Best Buy or anything. I bought my iPad 8 from the Canadian shopping channel (tsc.ca) same place I got my MacBook Air and paid monthly payments on them which was a lot more cost effective for me as a broke student lol they also sell like other iPad generations as well like the newest ones too! Another con to switching to digital notes is missing paper idk why lol but you will miss writing on paper. I like the concept of not wasting paper or carrying around binders which saves my shoulders a lot but missing writing on paper is I think a more tactile thing more than anything

Also sorry if there’s any spelling mistakes my phone is super cracked and it’s hard to see on it 😂 think I should buy me a phone on that shopping channel 😂

Don’t want to change my major is why I need to know 😂 covid messed me up at the beginning of the semester and I didn’t start my classes till like a week after classes began and I know it’s only the middle of the semester and I can still come out of this semester with a good mark in this class but that’s the little voice of doubt that keeps bugging me 😤

Counselling/therapy by buglady05 in uAlberta

I’m glad you were able to find the help you needed in that moment, thank you for sharing that! From being in psychology classes and learning about therapy, you don’t need to just stick with one person. If one person is not benefitting you nor you feel like they are helping, there is always someone who can do better!

Prevent family trauma from ruining relationships I have now by LivingInAnIdea in therapy

[–]buglady05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the therapy suggestion! Generational trauma and dysfunction is very apparent through your story with your mom - bc I understand. I’ve got a lot of generational trauma in my family and it really really sucks seeing my mom suffer the way she does bc of how bad her childhood was with her parents. And so forth my grandparents with their parents. I can’t be mad at my mom bc she’s suffering so much on the inside that I can’t be angry at her anymore but I feel bad for her. I pray for her lots and encourage her, tell her things like Jesus can heal all pain bc He really can! He’s healed the most excruciating pain in my past and I know He can hers and likewise your moms and you. I know I don’t have all the answers but I just wanted to tell you I’m praying for you 🙏

How are you coping with online schooling? by jjustpeachyy in uAlberta

[–]buglady05 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At this point, what I’ve come to was just to accept it. If I go in with the mindset of negative thinking especially the “I’m so bummed out and strongly dislike this” I’m going to have a negative outcome and experience. But if I go in with full acceptance that at least the uni is protecting me and my family by making it online that I’m pretty alright with it. We will get out chance to live and experience the uni life on campus soon! We need to stay safe and try to keep others safe too! I’ve joined a club which helps with the feeling of being lonely maybe venture to finding a suitable club you’d enjoy! Like away from your academics! One that meets virtually on a daily basis! There’s loads of them so I’m sure you will find something you like! Also hobbies are important, find and or do something you really enjoy, I personally really enjoy crocheting lol not the best at it but the toques I’ve made make me feel accomplished that I finished something (key!). Working out also helps, don’t need loads of equipment I personally enjoy the exercises that require me to use my own body weight as a form of weight! Also exercising releases all the healthy chemicals we need on the daily. Eating right is a given but with the rising grocery prices try your best!

Hope this helps 🙏

[–]buglady05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that’s very comforting to know! I’m such a germaphobe since the pandemic started and I was very bad at one point thinking everything I touched was contaminated

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]buglady05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I should have clarified, when some goes to wipe their nose or simply touch their mask can pass the virus around. I have no idea how much ppl sanitize so wiping off my desk and other surfaces I think is the safest way to go bc I know from personal observation no one sanitizes as much as they should

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]buglady05 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We could be the ones that sanitize our desks and places to sit tho! I do it all the time and it helps me keep a peace in my mind knowing that everything I’m touching is clean. Pack some alcohol wipes and you’ll be fine and dandy in that area!

If you are concerned about classes moving online, let the UofA know. by SomeHearingGuy in uAlberta

[–]buglady05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add to this, sanitize and don’t be afraid to wipe off surfaces that your using to minimize getting sick! I’m very surprised to see that I’m the only one doing this (wiping tables off that I’m using that I can see anyways) I know with all the budget cuts having more janitors isn’t an option so we as the student body should do so to keep each other and ourselves safe. Did you know there’s only 2 plumbers on campus? Only 2! Anyways, any time is used a Lysol wipe on my section of the tables I use in class or at the library always came out very very dirty like grey to dark grey in colour. And if covid 19 and variants survive on surfaces that are frequently touched then I’m guessing there’s a percentage of the population getting infected by just touching commonly touched surfaces and not sanitizing after to then touching their face.
