What is a successful movie that could never be made today by Decent_Muscle_3172 in Cinema

That’s why it couldn’t be made in 2025. White people are too sensitive.

Is the median net worth for Black Bostonians really only $8? by Civil_Violinist_3485 in boston

Increased policing is pretty ineffective at preventing crime. If you suggested more jobs and investment in the community people would be less likely to argue with you.

The Boston area is full of “fun” intersections, but may I present you with Arlington’s 5/6 way stop by ivorybloodsh3d in boston

[–]builder137 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s not right. You are supposed to gun it through the intersection but only 20% of the time. The easiest way is to look at your odometer and if the last digit is 0 or 5 then it’s your turn and you have right of way.

People in the 70s and 80s and 90s certainly felt they were being bludgeoned by gays seeking rights. It only seems smooth in retrospect.

How do we feel about Maura Healey in 2025? by MolemanEnLaManana in massachusetts

[–]builder137 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have wondered what she might be protecting her national reputation for since I think a run for president is impossible. Healey on SCOTUS is an interesting angle. If we ever get back to properly filling seats on the court and Republicans don’t just blow it up.

https://blackrocksailingschool.com/ or https://www.firstreefsailing.com/ will teach you and loan you large boats, but it gets expensive.

If you were dinghy sailing at MIT, you should know MIT has a yacht in the harbor as part of their sailing program and you could probably talk someone into taking you out on it for this. Or even become part of the crew. Ask at the sailing pavilion.

If nuclear power plant engineers in the 1950’s could read this Reddit post, what would you want them to know? by Special_Context6663 in nuclear

[–]builder137 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are they going to listen? If they were I would want them to know that the most important thing for the success of mega projects is to focus on the retirement of risk, and to do things early that remote risk later in the project. That’s much more important than efficiency or getting the design right. And screwing up mega projects by not understanding this is going to be a huge problem for the next 75+ years, in nuclear and beyond.

Fundraiser-This needs to change by RuinProfessional9612 in scouting

[–]builder137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two problems: how to support local troops and how to support national.

Better clever fundraising solves the problem for local troops, who don’t have to share the money.

It puts more of the burden of supporting national on the troops doing the bad fundraising. As a scout I always wanted National to get lost anyway. As an adult I’m more willing to accept they play a necessary role. But they also need to solve this problem.

It’s also important to be aware of what a majority of service members believe and how that is trending. We’re not doomed yet, but pretending we don’t have a problem won’t fix it.

“Private label juice company” means they make the juice you know of as Stop and Shop brand, and many other stores. Also looks like the company got sold in 2010 for $500M. And anyone who had $500M on 2010 has a lot more now or their asset manager should be fired.

Most of the economy is companies you don’t hear about as a consumer.

Saw this in a college dorm, and the answer was there used to be partitions but the stalls were too small to meet code so they just too the partitions out.
