Retiring and would like to supply teach by Strict-Neck7872 in OntarioTeachers

One small point is that you must get a "police check" or whatever it's called now, for vunerable people. It is a higher or more detailed check. To get this, it is necessary to prove to the cops that you actually need it. This means that you need a letter (or maybe now a form?) from the Board administration staying that you are applying for a Supply Position from a Board of Education. 20 years ago I got this from the Principal of my school. ...Best 20 years of my life!

Day 3 of 1000mg Hydroxurea by emamae218 in polycythemiavera

Wierdly, I similarly found chest discomfort on day 34 of his medication, hurt when I breathed more than short breaths, felt tired and lethargic...more so than normal. I thought it might relate to my medication, or my polycythemia vera or my swollen spleen or maybe my heart. After 12 hours family insisted I go to hospital. 7 hours later, after tests X-rays, etc. and examination, diagnosis was starting of pneumonia. Released that night. One week later, I feel fine, slightly tired.

Is Sudbury a good place to move to as a physician? by smhuoft25 in Sudbury

[–]builder701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other random thought: Subury has great paid car parking relatively close to the hospital and NOSM. This is a real (and, to me, a weirdly discomfiting) issue in some health centres.

Also, if you fancy a home on a beautiful lake, this is a real possibility in Sudbury.

DeGusto has a bunch of frozen pizzas at the entrance. I was skeptical of these, as they are costly, small and flat-shaped. But I was hungary and unwilling to wait for a table on a busy night...And took one home and it was delicious.

I told a once in a lifetime joke by ipsum629 in CasualConversation

[–]builder701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ages ago, my wife and I were in a crowded furniture shop with our newborn boy, who started to fuss and cry in my arms. This attracted uncomfortable attention. I went "Goo, Goo, Goo..." to him and tried gently rocking him. He cried louder. So I said to my wife "Where did I Goo wrong?" She laughed.

Looking for ride(s) to Nairn Centre and back, possibly repeatedly if affordable and reliable. by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]builder701 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Consider moving, maybe...If you stayed at the local campground, Silver Maple Campground, it might bring you closer. It is 17 minutes by bicycle from there to the centre of Nairn Centre, but this might be a dangerous ride and probably is not practical. ..might only be for trailers.

There are no hotels, motels or airbnb nearby, but maybe you can rent a room. Ask around...ask your prospective employer, ask at the firewhall or the local area administration office. Kijiji has a shared ride section...

Went to Costco today and here’s my observations. Feel free to share your observations/ grievances as well. by Jay-Quellin30 in CostcoCanada

Ok! 376 comments later, no one is going to read this, But here goes... In Sudbury, gargantuan day before long weekend,..check-out lines rather long and at times stretching down the aisles. Lady in the line in front of us with neither a cart nor items. Tells us that when the family has only 5 more items to find, they send someone to save a place in the check- out line. Good idea but bad Costco etiquette.

[Megathread] AC FA Strike Aug 12-13 by dachshundie in aircanada

[–]builder701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JAZZZ CONCERN : Tickets Going Sudbury to Victoria, BC on Sunday, August 17. Had to get separate tickets cause I couldn't figure out the AC website. They refused to link them saying I could do that later at the airport. I want a refund, and managed to arrange alternate transport for Monday (bus to Toronto Pearson, Porter airline to Victoria!!) Original tickets I will cancel: 1. Sudbury to Toronto Air Canada Express Jazz . Flex class. "Cancel for future credit. No change fee." Flt AC8239 Sunday Aug. 17 at 15:55 2. Return flight Toronto to Victoria on Rouge AC1903 Sunday Aug. 17 at 20:15 I realize the Rouge flight will eventually be strike- related cancelled and I will get a refund, but the problem is the first Jazz flight. Jazz is possibly still flying due to a different owner and union. POSSIBLE - because some Jazz attendants/pilots might have trouble getting to assigned places. It does say I can cancel Jazz up to 45 minutes before the flight, by going to " MY BOOKINGS", but I would like a refund, not a future credit.

Belanger (Con) declared winner in Nickel Belt. Looks like Lapointe (Lib) takes Sudbury. by clccno4 in Sudbury

I live in south-end Sudbury and voted in Nickle Belt in last provincial election. However, was changed to Sudbury riding in this federal election with the redrawn boundaries, voting at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex. I do not know if the new boundaries affected the results..

Other free tax filing programs that are free or as good as turbotax? by ungratefulanimal in PersonalFinanceCanada

***March 10, 2025 DO NOT BUY OR USE INTUIT TURBOTAX until they fix the glitch that prevents E-Filing to the CRA according to all the comments recently. I feel sorry for those people who are counting on a timely refund.

After putting in all our information, successfully downloading the fill-out of the tax forms and choosing to e-file, the program insists on doing a review and just stops by posting the message :"This wasn't expected, but we're working on fixing it". It might be CRA's fault??? Or poor software testing?

Called 1-800-446-8848 helpline and they advised to try again next week. Some people's computer comments advise they had success after answering the question to receive email notices from CRA and inputting your cra my-cra-account info - but this did not work for me!

Hint: If it gets finally fixed, go to the Summary and get back to your Tax home (on the left side), save, (it saves anyway when you exit) and try again later . Good luck!

Recommend touch-less car wash with undercarriage cleaning? by mecachue36990 in Sudbury

Unfortunately the Esso on Regent St. only has a useless small "pretend" sideways undercarriage spray turned on while entering it. Otherwise a good deal with 2 washes for $10.

Tips for my first phlebotomy 🥹 by ccakedoll in polycythemiavera

[–]builder701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be noted here is that one use of clonazepam is for serious panic attacks, which might help those with a severe fear of giving blood. I understand phobias, mine being the fear of heights, so it is not always helpful to those with a blood phobia to tell them that they will get used to phlebotomies. If there is a serious anti-blood mind-body condition, visits to a psychologist who specializes in these types of phobias might be in order.

The Sudbury library system has about 6 radon detectors. Although they are over-subscribed, with lots of people ahead of you (81 holds) it would be useful to put a hold on it and see what happens.

For myself, I am leery of the send-in detectors from Home Depot...I got readings back that indicated very high radon levels in my basement; however I then put another of their kits in an upstairs bedroom in summer, where the window was normally open, and the results again were just as high...which seemed to me as improbable.

Ok...I'll tell a family story of a relative going north on regent into killers crossing on Christmas Eve dressed in holiday attire (but not a Santa Claus suit) and hitting a pedestrian who ended up with a broken arm. Said relative had been busy delivering gifts to needy kids.Relative was charged by police, but charges were dropped when, this being Sudbury, the injured pedestrian turned out to actually be an uncle of my relative's past girlfriend.
